What is the difference between a duck?

I don't know about you, but when I have the time I just like to make interesting food and see how it turns out.. or hell maybe I'll just try to make normal food that turns out tasting awesome.. who knows. But I like to play with recipes and see what happens. If you do too, then this could be a thread where you could post up the final result of your work for comment e.t.c. I've got a couple, the first I did today and the second I did awhile back but still had the picture for some reason. xD

Maple YumDog
Maple Soaked and Pan Fried Hot Dog on Maple Pan Toasted Bun
Posted Image

Made two but ate the other before actually taking the pics. Will write up how I made them a little later when I'm not being run out the door. xD

PROCESS
I was working on a picture and watching baseball and decided I wanted a Hotdog.. The grill wasn't handy today and I NEVER boil meat if I can avoid it because I hate what it does to the flavor, so I have turned to pan frying in either butter or corn oil. I got some oil and heated up the oven.

While waiting for that I took some maple syrup (the real stuff not that fake crap that is more gooey than all hell.. real stuff acts almost like water) and put some on a plate and sat 2 hot dogs on it, rolling them periodically to try and get them covered in the sticky goodness so they could absorb the flavor. After a few minutes I threw em both into the pan and let em sizzle, covering the top for a few 3-4ish minute intervals.. occasionally picking up the covered pan to roll the dogs side to side in the oil to more evenly cook them.. The first time I raised the lid I realized I had to turn down the temperature a little because the corn oil was going off like firecrackers.. all that did was accelerate the cook of the meat though so whatevs..

After awhile of turning and topped tumbling, I turned the stove top down to about 2 and moved the dogs off to the side of the pan. One at a time I took the buns and used the excess maple syrup from earlier to coat the inner sides of the buns before putting them face down on the pan to toast themselves. When I was done the outer portions of the bread were slightly greasy from the oil but not overly so, with a toasted and crispy maple lip around the dog itself which had taken on a candy coating itself from the pan fry.

I didn't put a lot of time intervals down because I typically don't time myself I just look at the meat or whatever I'm cooking and go from there, but the dog looked good and ready when it turned a reddish crispy brown.. the bread taking no more than around 3-5 minutes as well.

Cheese Topped Egg Flat
Sunny Side Up Egg W/ Melted Cheese and Crust Fried Bottom

Will also talk about this one more when I have the chance later tonight.

PROCESS
Come to think of it.. I don't even really remember about this one.. All I know is that it was 3 sunny side up eggs covered in Tilamook Cheese that I cooked long enough to get that crusty bottom.. I could probably make it again if I tried for it but I don't quite remember off the top of my head.

FOOD IDEA UPDATE

Okay.. I've had some people asking me to try and do a special Chili Dog sort of thing so I was thinking about how I could possibly make a chili dog that wasn't like every other chili dog ever invented.. and then I thought of an idea.

WTFiesta Dog

The idea is that it is a hot dog bun with nacho cheese covering the inner portion of the bun.. 4 to 6 warmed tortilla chips are stuck to the cheese. The hotdog is pan fried "Animal Style" (Mustard fried onto the dog) and the chili for the dog would be mixed with a couple globs of Sour Cream (per dog) and then that concoction would be laid over the top of the meat. Could be eaten by hand if you're adventurous but this sounds like a fork and knifer.

Here's a new one.

LEFTOVERS DONE RIGHT

Okay so a couple days ago I went out to a Mexican Restaurant that makes some awesome steak fajitas.. couldn't finish it all because I'd eaten a snack prior and they just give you SO MUCH.. so here we are.. I could just microwave the meat and veggies with my non-existant Microwave..

OR

MAKE IT TASTY.

If there's anything I've learned you can take any of your leftovers and fry them in corn oil with a brick of ramen and make something good come out. I started by applying some watered down corn oil and throwing in the Steak/onion/pepper bits and letting them fry up and mix with the liquids for a bit before throwing on the brick of ramen. I used a bit of the meat flavored packet with the noodles to spice up the taste but only a little to keep the sodium levels down. Besides the noodles were going to be busy sucking up steak and vegetable juices.

Posted Image

After frying that up for a little while I added some garlic and a dash of poultry seasoning (since it's good for more than just birds) and tossed it all periodically.. adding water here and there so the juices wouldn't dry up. After a good 10 minutes of capped fry and flipping I moved the pans contents into two bowls.

However there was a bit of juicy residue left behind so I did the most appropriate thing I could think of.. Keeping the heat around 5 I took a slice of sourdough bread and split it in half, using the tongs to slide the bread around to absorb some of the grit and juice left behind to both clean the pan and become a delectable counterpart to my Leftover pasta. I made sure to get a decent bit of leftover juice on both faces of the bread but only primarily cap/fry/toasted one side, leaving the top side to steam, giving the bread a slightly different taste and texture depending on how you are holding it (stronger taste on the steamed side/ grittier and smoother on the toasted side).

Posted Image

Tucked the bread into the side of the bowl and the final dish (which was split between me and a friend which is why the amount of food is on the light side) came out looking nice and well fried and tasting very nice with caramelized onion really seeming to mingle with the noodles and meat sauce.

It's no epic mealtime.. but it's damn tasty and doesn't require 36 Big-Macs to pull off. |D

Besides.. living off ramen doesn't HAVE to be a bad thing if you don't WANT it to be. x3

Cy-Fox here. What you know about nachos? What you know about value? Cy's going to show you haters how to make some mother-CAW!-ing epic nachos for under 10 dollars.

First we need some cheese. Not just some off-brand singles. Get yerself some Velveeta, chumps

Posted Image

Chop some of that Velveeta into thin squares and put it in a bowl. Then add some salsa.

Posted Image

And microwave that until the cheese melts. If it ain't melted, then run it through your hater microwave again. Stir that mixture up until it's smooth. But we ain't done yet. Be a man and add some Frank's Red Hot Sauce, you tired-eyed -caw-

Posted Image

And stir it again. Then get yourself some Doritos and eat up.

Posted Image

Next time, we cook eggs and bacon on the barrel of a machine gun.

I can't do crap except frying an omelet, pancake, making noodles, or making salsa. But I make some great salsa. Anybody know what curry tastes like? I've somehow gone over a decade and a half without it.

WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT EGG BAGELS???

I was in a bit of a cooking mood I guess, with Thanksgiving tommorrow, and my household's lack of a turkey dinner since we don't have the family network to support the bird.. I figured I was gunna miss the cooking.. so I cooked up something for myself.

Fry Corn oil and water, throw in a little poultry seasoning to start until simmering and then fry two eggs, cover the eggs for awhile and let the fry fluff out the whites. Throw in a dash of garlic and some more poultry seasoning before folding the egg blanket over on itself. Fry all that with a parted bagel, frying both sides to absorb the eggy juices.. put a little specialty Bourbon Molasses Mustard on the bottom bun to give the sammich a nice lil sweet/sharp zing, and then compile the eggs and bread.

The first bite broke the yolks somewhat as while it was heated enough to sort of solidify parts of the yolks, there was still a nice runnyness that mixed with the mustard and the yellowed seasoned whites.

Safe to say, this was one of my more enjoyable food experiments.
