I'm tired, it's three in the morning, so I couldn't be bothered to check to see if such a topic exists. Regardless, here it is!

Whether you've been playing for years or have just started learning, this is the place to discuss guitars, guitar gear, guitar techniques, how far you've gotten in learning, what songs you can play or are learning to play.

Everything to do with guitars, basically. Bass guitar, too, might as well not leave them out. Now go forth, and discuss whatever you please!

Hopefully I'm doin' it rite.

Carnival Night Act 1
Sure, I'll jump on this band wagon. So I purchased a $400 Taylor acoustic guitar from a Guitar Center back in January. Prior to the purchase, I had strummed a bit on their display model to see if it was the right fit and feel, if I liked the sound, and just to see the overall quality of the guitar. I also asked them what would be a good starting acoustic guitar with a decent price, and that was one of their most recommended suggestions. The man helping me had informed me he has had the same guitar model, and it's lasted him for over ten years. Could this have been simply salesman talk? I doubted it, because he didn't sound as though he was pushing me to purchase it, he was just being helpful and informative. Plus I came to learn that Taylor guitars are higher in quality, and USUALLY a good buy. So I made the purchase.

Upon returning home and testing it with my recording equipment, I came to realize that the A string, when played on any fret, rattled quite noisly. It was irritating. It's something that can be ignored with electric a bit more, but on what is supposed to be a new smooth sounding acoustic, it just was offsetting. The E right next to it also rattled a bit, though it wasn't too noticable. So I took it into Guitar Center again, to their guitar repair section, told the man what was happening, and he claimed it was just a normal issue for the guitar, and not much could be done to change it. He adjusted the neck for me a bit, saying that should reduce the buzzing. Sadly, it never did, and as time has gone on, it's seemingly gotten worse. Now it's been 5 months, and I sit unhappy with what is supposed to be a quality acoustic guitar that rattles, and I'm unsure how to fix this issue. I don't much want it to be 400 dollars down the drain.

Though, I will admit I'm not that great at guitar, so it's not as if I'm missing out on recording some like great songs or anything, though I'd like to learn without it rattling as it does.

Ouch. There are two possibilities that come to my mind about what could be wrong: either it's a bad string, or, more likely, a problem with the frets.

You say he adjusted the neck? As in the action? I'm no expert, nor have I been playing guitar for all that long (maybe nine months) but it sounds like maybe it's a problem with one of the lower frets (the ones closest to the head).

Kinda grinds my gears though that he said it was a known issue with the guitar. If so, why didn't he bring it up when he sold it to you?

I got a Fender guitar AND case for $350, and I've not had any problems with either. Sounds like you seriously got ripped off.

Considering buying a bass. I mean, I know how to play guitar well enough to transfer to bass in no time, but the main reason is really so my bass play has one. I mean, I want it but I also want it for my bassist.

Also, I'm getting a new guitar but I want to figure out the style I want. I love Fenders, and currently I'm working with a Chinese import Stratocaster so it's a $25 piece of shit. My style's mostly grunge, Power-chord music, but often with the lead.

I've actually been kind of torn between buying a bass or an electric guitar. I think I could transfer to bass easily for the same reason you do, since I've been playing guitar for a while.

I've been looking at maybe getting this guitar. It looks so metal, which is good since that is what I will mostly play with it. I've also heard naught but good things about it.

Also, I didn't know you were in a band. That's cool.

Well I can't find my issue of Musician's Friend but I was looking at a $300 Fender Jaguar bass, and a sick looking Fender "Mike Dirnt" Precision bass here.

As for the Guitar, I found several nice Strats on Fender's webpage, but my budget can't pay me a $1,600 Strat, ironic because I'm would be jumping right from a $25 chinese piece of shit to an overpriced $1,600 guitar that's virtually the same thing. xD

Aye, I really don't have any chance of reasonably coming up with the money for such expensive guitars. I'm a 14 year old with a five dollar per week allowance and no job aside from the odd one from by grandparents. So I'm always looking for cheap decent stuff :P

As far as getting a bass goes, I could get a cheapy cheap Rogue or Dean, but I'll probably save up for the standard Squier P Bass. The Fleabass Model 32 looks nice, but $500 for it? Probably won't happen.

Still not sure which I'll get first. I had been planning on getting the bass first so I could just get a bass amp and use it for the electric guitar, but I'm kinda thinking about getting the guitar first.

My price range is $100 to $399 for instruments. I really dont go higher then that unless I have an abnormally larger amount of money. XP
As for the Amps, I highly recommend the Valvetronix VT30 for a starter amp. It's reasonably priced, you can get a great deal of different sounds and styles from it, and Its got a HEADPHONE PLUG-IN,meaning you can jam out at night and no one will be bothered.

I have one and I'll say right now, if you want portability go with the 15 or 30 volt. If you plan on rocking out on stage, get a 50 or 100 volt, though I doubt the 100 volt is 100% necessary. I myself have the 30 volt because I'm going to need it occasionally for Band Night at our school and stuff like that. Really useful, looking to spend a bit more for a foot switch.

Yeah, I do feel quite ripped off actually. But there is very little I can do at this point. I waited too long to really try to take action about it sadly. Though dealing with it wasn't easy either, given the guitar place is about an hour north of here. The whole process to get up there, try to get somewhere with it, and get back is almost 3 hours just with that and a lot of gas.

I'm thinking though I may find a more specialized guitar shop or guitar repair shop or something along those lines, and see what they can do for me. Because I do eventually want to record with that guitar, but before I do, I'm going to need to have that rattling fixed, or my recordings will likely sound horrid.

I got a Fender Acoustic-electric, and have been playing for a few moths. I play it pretty casually though, usually just trying to learn videogame songs. Right now I'm trying to master Sunslammer.

Ive been wanting to learn how to play for a while now. Don't have the money to buy one though, let alone some lessons. Its definitely something I wanna accomplish in the future.

I have a cheap guitar. It looks like a fender Strat, it has a maple neck, and a "Flame" body. However, its not from a brand name company, but from an indie company by the name of Spectrum. I love it to death though. I am eventually going to be taking lessons this July (which is my Birth Month lol). However, I am self-teaching myself some songs like Local H's classic, Bound for the Floor, and Nirvana's Come as you are (even though i don't have some parts exactly right) Its all good.

Oh, and this is what it looks like. Gotta love the Headstock on it!!

I have a Yamaha electric-acoustic guitar. I know a few chords, I just learned the B minor last night. I know how to play some songs, only in chords. I have a little trouble with tabs, so I need to practise more.

Go to town, brother.

I have a poster in my room, might take a picture of it soon, but it all 110 different chords on the first five frets.

I can now play the F chords better. Before used to play by laying my index finger flat across the strings. Where it sounded muted sometimes. Now I lay my index finger, on its side across the strings. Learning the B was easy since it's like AM accept it on the third and forth fret, while barring the second.
