What is the difference between a duck?

As you may or may not know... the Rapture will occur on May 21st at 6pm.. of course, the bible isn't sure if that's pacific or mountain or whatever time.. Sandford Fleming didn't exist when people wrote the Bible.

So.. who knows, maybe Armageddon will hit each time zone at 6pm consecutively..

But yeah on the 22nd I plan to wake up and brush my teeth after enjoying the Preakness Stakes the day prior during the rapture.

I sure hope the horses can run well during the super earthquake that is likely to be happening.

TLDR: So you're saying it's organized religion to blame? I agree completely.

If anyone opposes organized religion, it's the crackpot preachers who predict the end of the world in defiance of established ecclesiastic belief.

In the grand scheme of organized Christianity, these doomsayers are to the Catholic, Orthodox, and High Protestant Churches what gay pot-smoking libertarians are to Republicans.

edit: To explain what I mean, organized religion within Christianity says the end date is unknown. Anyone who makes predictions, therefore, has thrown off the limitations of organized religion in favor of personal revelation—which is, obviously, the non-atheist alternative to organized religion.

And atheists, and conspiracy theorists...

But yes, folks who decide to start advertising the end of the world and that sort of thing are setting themselves up for failure from the get-go. *shrug* Non-believers have more reason to not believe, and believers have more reason to point and laugh at the idiot playing Silly Buggers.

I can agree with this to an extent, because it's not like that all the time, just mostly people reacting like, "We've heard this story before, and it's not getting any funnier!" Like I said before, Boy Who Cried Wolf is written all over this one, and same with all other absurd end of the wolrd announcements.

The only thing that makes this different from other dommsday predictions is that this is from the Holy Bible. It's from a book that many people have strong faith in, and yet it has deceived them with a lie. How can you continue to hold your credibility on the bible if it was wrong?

You dont.

I understand your argument, and if your premises were correct, I'd agree with you. The main premise, however, that this prediction came from the Bible, just doesn't stand up. People have been interpreting the Bible for thousands of years; there are people whose entire lives are spent being trained in the appropriate way to approach the Bible (ex. the Catholic Magisterium and the theologians). If there was really some definite code whereby the Bible explicitly said "And then the Rapture [which isn't an entirely accepted idea to many exegeses, anyway] will happen at X time," I feel confident someone would have found it a long time before this guy.

Therefore, the person wrong here is not the writer of the Bible so much as the reader. To put it another way, addition doesn't lose its credibility because 3rd grade math students claim (2 + 2)x3 = 2+ 6 = 8

The students made the error of order, not the math system itself.

Ahh, point taken. I guess I've just been ignorant recently, looking for reasons to be an Atheist rather then being bound to a simple book IMO.

So. The Rapture hasn't happened this time around. Looks like we all live another day. We can always hope twenty-o-twelve of the Mayan Calendar will get the job done right. Otherwise, the meteors that we expect every twelve years might as well take their shot.

I was really expecting something to happen. I was going to get some chairs and watch the show if something did happen.

Now before any more bumping or abuse happens. Someone please close this topic, since the suppose date of the Rapture is over.

I don't want to go fearing death, I want to go enjoying life.
this. just this alone for me.
I don't believe in this happening. there were many "happenings" before this. Take, for example, the day of July 4th, 2009. It came, then went without a hitch. another event was i think back in 1972 (?) that day came and went. It just doesn't make sense. The Y2K event back in '99, when i was only 8 years old. that came and went into a new millennium, not into a rapture. According to the bible, if memory serves, even the lord does not know the exact date of the worlds end. I strongly, truly, deeply even, believe in this.
In the Bible it states that even Jesus does not know when it will happen and no man will know the day nor hour, only the Father knows. Anyone claiming to know the exact end of the world is only saying they do not believe the Bible or God himself.

As for this guy, he has been wrong before so I don't see how anyone believed him in the first place.

Thats the extraordinary part about it, isn't it?! It was clearly a hoax yet FOX News apparently had a death toll from 6-7PM, saying 569 thousand people died around the world.

Sensationalism!

This is so stupid. If your going to die, why kill yourself. If the rapture was going to happen that wasn't going to help.

I now that not all where suicide but a few look like it.

I don't think anyone killed themselves, that's just a figure of how many people died which was skewed to make look like it was different from normal. lol

Fox News and its Capitalism. What will they do next with their family friendly, childlike antics? On a serious note, many of you have already made this point, but that trick of theirs is comparable to the point many of you made about natural disasters not really being up from the norm. In this case, it's not the mere existence of news, it's just that people want to cash in. I believe the man said he found a 'code' in the Bible. Unless he knows how to read Roman, Greek, Hebrew, and all the other languages the various separate books were written in, I don't think that English Bible's gonna help him much in the case of secretive codes.
