Well I've had stuff stolen, around £100. Two other of my friends have had the same happen to them, and this was before I had a chance to cancel my card. (Due to phone services being poor, and that my bank's been closed for..and I kid you not "preperations from the royal wedding". Only today where the news hit, when my card got retained, and my bank account issuing me with a caution. Also before it got retained, I checked my funds and I'm sure I was missing £100. Can't be totally sure until I check into the branch tomorrow.

Seriously, butthole pains...

I havn't checked any of my stuff since it happened... might be a good idea, huh? and I'm with Skye, they keep it a mystery for a week, and THEN tell us? after a good # of people could have possibly been stolen from? why keep it that long? They've got people yelling at thier front door, shouldn't that be incentive enough?
As for the actual network being down, it's not that bad. I just can't play online, so I push the limit on NPCs. Might as well use this chance to get better =3

I'd just like to say that I've temporarily lost faith in the PSN. After all, it's kinda hard not to have a bias towards an online service when its competitor is dead at the moment.

Also, if that Class Action goes through, the PSN members'll be a bit richer.
Because none of us... ...Are as cruel as all of us.

Apologies; I'm still heated from another conversation.

Anyhoo, I don't agree with your distrustful nature of the forum keeping the fraud a mere possibility for you. There are people there who hardline themselves with consoles there, (as there are here), but the people who would be out to get Sony are not the ones even reporting this in the first place. If anything, they'd be the first people banned and several people actually were in the appropriate threads. You say you don't even go to the forum; well, I do. I've been there long enough to get a clear image of who's bullshitting and who isn't, and the situation as a whole has hardly been used as an excuse for the fanboys to come out of the woodwork.
Well quite a few people don't check their statements on their cards. I would assume there were people who probably had statement issues for a bit, and they just bothered to check because of recent events. In this scenario, it would seem like the PSN debacle is to blame when it was something else.

Besides, there have only been a few reported claims of people losing money, and most of those were just anonymous e-mails/forum users with no follow-through to see if the story was legit. I'm not saying that NO ONE was compromised because of Sony's poor defenses, but I will say that online forums are filled with people who are liars and if money was stolen, it doesn't necessarily mean people on forums are the most likely to be hit. Which is why I don't use a forum to assume anything, I will wait till real reports are made of it with evidence.

More than likely, the vast majority of these stories aren't true. But your not going to stop idiots from being idiots. There have already been people photoshopping statements to make it seems like they lost money which fooled everyone until someone pointed out it was a well done photoshop. All I'm saying is trolls can be clever and sound very legit.

I will. But I'm still joining if it goes class-action. One I could use the money. And two this will ensure it doesn't happen again. Plus why change the number if it's still in there. This isn't as simple as changing a number. It's bad enough that it had to come to this in the first place. What pisses me off is that they didn't say anything for a week.

Like I said before, they shut it down and had an outside agency come in and find out the full details. They didn't say anything because they did not know what all had happened and no company or government will make a premature statement saying, "I don't know what happened but prepare for the worst." A law suit won't ensure anything won't happen again, anything can be hacked it just depends on how focused the hackers are.

Sony has confirmed it'll partially restore most PlayStation Network services at some point this week, but PlayStation Store will not return until "this month."

An exact day wasn't confirmed other than just this week in a press release published on the EU PS Blog, but services to return include:

This includes titles requiring online verification and downloaded games
Restoration of Online game-play across the PlayStation®3 (PS3) and PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) systems
Access to Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3/PSP for existing subscribers
Access to account management and password reset
Access to download un-expired Movie Rentals on PS3, PSP and MediaGo
PlayStation®Home
Friends List
Chat Functionality

It's also confirmed that access to PlayStation Store will return at some point this month.

Sony also confirmed that out of the 78 million-strong userbase for PSN, at least 10 million accounts had credit card information. It added that there was no evidence credit card information was stolen, but urged users to "stay vigilant," change other passwords and keep an eye on credit card statements.

It announced as well that 31 million US PSN accounts, 9.2 million UK accounts,7.5 million accounts in Japan and 3.5 million Canadian accounts for the network. 5,898 accounts were also made in Ukraine.

It comes as SCEI boss Kaz Hirai took to the stage in a media briefing this morning, which is still going, to address the hacking crisis that has seen the service go down, personal user data compromised and the company as a whole under serious criticism.

Hirai's speech, which began at 2pm JST (6am BST, 7am CET, 1am EST, 10pm PST, 4pm Sydney), expected to speak about the breach, as well as the management plan and when we can expect PSN to go back online.

The full speech is being streamed on the Sony website here.

Hirai first began by apologising for what has happened before going into a timeline of what had happened in regards to the PSN downtime.

We'll update this post as the conference goes on, but news already emerging from the event is that PSN is said to return online this week, according to a press packet given to journalists.

In terms of compensation, all PSN members will get a free month of premium service PlayStation Plus as well as free unspecified software and other free goodies that are to be announced.

PSN saw an "external intrusion" by hackers two weeks ago, and was brought completely offline due to it. Since then, Sony has confirmed that personal user data has been compromised, and has not ruled out the possibility that credit card data was stolen.

The news has been reported worldwide on mainstream press as well as specialist outlets.

Looks like they decided to compensate users for their patience after all. I've heard rumours that it'll be back up by Tuesday at the earliest.

"It added that there was no evidence credit card information was stolen, but urged users to "stay vigilant," change other passwords and keep an eye on credit card statements."

That statement is blowing smoke to try and make people second guess what actually happened.. if that data wasn't tapped, there would be no need for the info of Sony's storing of credit card information to ever surface.. It happened and will most likely continue to happen to people who don't change their numbers if they've already been noticeably affected.

That being said, at least there is some form of compensation up front, but I wont be surprised if legal action will still be taken by people that were exposed by this incident. The saga surrounding this whole event is far from over.

This. I know personally I'm still going to be talking to the proper authorities on this one. Cause it shouldn't have happened to begin with. Plus their basically just trying to calm people down which in turn is probably just going to rile them right back up. The cards are on the table so it's up to the consumer on this one. They can either try and win or go for their bluff and lose out miserably. And them compensating customers? That's not going to help those who use the PSP more now is it? Cause I don't think they have something like PSN Plus for PSP users. If they do then that's nice but it still doesn't make it any better.

I still can't use this.

If you're wondering if this situation is as bad as people are purporting, then yes it is that bad. \o/

"The hackers that hacked PSN are selling off the DB," Keven Stevens, a security analyst with Trend Micro, wrote on Twitter. "They reportedly have 2.2 million credit cards with CVVs."

Quote:

Hackers are claiming the database includes full names, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, passwords, dates of birth, credit card numbers, CVV2s ["card verification values," the three-digit security code used to confirm the validity of the card in transactions where the card isn't present] and expiration dates - in other words, pretty much everything.

The first claim of credit card fraud arising from the PSN hack was made yesterday by an Australian man, who noticed $2000 in new charges on his account including several $1 transactions made on April 23, typically evidence of test runs to determine if an account is valid. Other reports, including $1500 spent in a German grocery store with a U.S. credit card, have also begun to rise to the surface; there is no proof, however, that these charges are actually connected to the PSN breach.

Yep just as bad as I thought. Thank you Bliz. I can foresee this getting worse. My attorney is getting a call tomorrow. I would suggest that anyone on here do the same. Or at least attempt to. Cause this is serious business.

I'm glad I didn't put my card # and things on there. But seriously, how did they get hacked in the first place? They should have had a lot of security in place before the event anyway. Was the guy just that good or did PSN just put up the basics for a computer thinking no one would try?

Sony's service was just hacked again, 25 million more users are now apparently at risk. The reinstating of the online service will now be imminently delayed.

Wow they're really gonna have fun recovering from this one. I'd hate to see what's next. It almost makes me feel sad for them. Almost. This does not account for the troubles it also causes to the consumers. So I'll just have to keep an eye and ear open for this within the coming days. It's just looking worse and worse for them.

Unfortunate, I was really looking forward to play Dead Space 2, or Killzone 3 earlier this week, but with Playstation Network being down, I couldn't obviously. Killed my plans for that day.
