And Neo, that 2 week break was when XBL was going through a big overhaul that was announced like a month before, MSFT was up front about it before it even happened.

Nobody could be prosecuted because their methods were just pure brute force. Illegals DDoS is only carried out through vulnerabilities in a system or through illegally obtained botnets. Also, the same Anonymous (/b/) that attacked Scientology also were responsible for Operation Titstorm and Project Freewebs, A DDoS on certain parts of the Australian gov's website and IRL protests respectively. My condolences to those bored over spring break. My Patapon 3 online's not working either, though it's bad anyway. Anyhoo, the PS3 is cracked less due to their expense and difficulty. While you have to pay for online in 360, there are alternate pirate networks you can play on, so hacking development in the 360 is far more advanced. Of course, the PS3's cellular processor would allow for some great brute forcing/botnets/curefinders. They could work as clusters, so PS3s would be great for homebrew development by researchers. But due to its illegal nature, such technology is likely to go to the botnets. It would be funny ironic if it was a DDoS by hacked PS3s.

However, Microsoft felt your pain and offered their Live service for free last weekend if you happened to have a 360 sitting somewhere! =P Quote: "Of course it's regretful that Sony is encountering issues at such a busy time, and Microsoft takes no joy in the problems gamers are having playing their favourite games online." Stated the representative of Microsoft's distribution network. "That being said, we are expecting Microsoft's robust online network to see an increase of traffic from those gamers who own both systems. Being able to play their games via the Xbox LIVE network could make all the difference for some gamers, and the Xbox Nations event will allow all of them to do just that-- whether they have a Gold subscription or not." As a bystander to this whole fiasco, this is getting more and more hilarious.

I also find the whole fiasco hilarious in many ways. Also, uh, yeah, your personal information is potentially at stake. I figured someone should let all PS3-ers here know. =/

So I guess they really do have a good reason to shut down PSN other than godmoding or Jailbreak hacks.
