I've been watching Sonic R vids lately. I was curious what others think of this game. Its an either you love it or hate it game. Personally I like it not a fan of the music though.

What are are your opinions?(On either the PC or Saturn version).

-Please respect others opinions. <---in case of debate :P

The funny thing is, there were people who did think it was a real Nintendo Wii game.

1.) Whether or not it was intentional, a highly-unbalanced roster is still a highly-unbalanced roster which overall is a flaw for any game based on competition.

Perfect balance does not a competitive game make. A perfectly competitive game would have one character, or many characters, but each character could only fight itself. That's not true. The first example doesn't accommodate all play styles, and they both would be agreeably not fun. It's the game designer's responsibility to strike a balance between balance and unbalance to achieve the kind of game they want. So a statement like 'In general, the more balance the better,' is incorrect.

2.) The bolded is not contradictory. I shouldn't have to manually handicap myself for a game to suddenly be challenging. The overwhelming disparity in racer stats is a failing of the game, not the player.

I'm sure you've played Sonic 3&K long enough to challenge yourself on it. Just because Sonic R has a much quicker learning curve doesn't mean it shouldn't be considered challenging.

and where are all these "<br />"s coming from?

Yep.
Honestly, i have a CD Copy of the game, my friend mysteriously got. I'm gonna say it's not that bad, but it could do better.

I loved the music, especially. I don't care if someone finds it annoying, i loved it. Back in 90's it gave the perfect feel for a racing Sonic game. What i found of best of the musics are Livin' In The City. The music is kinda disturbing to me sometimes, like i think i hear lyrics wrong. "Livin' In The City, you knoooow you don't don't need to surviveeeee..." Yeah, i'm screwed up.

What i especially loved is that they didn't insert them into goddamn karts or cars for no reason but they let them have a footrace, which i find nice and pretty original. It's a shame how they abandoned that idea.

The level design is good for it's ages. The water effect was pretty neat, and the music just gave you the mood to keep racing. =3 It's a shame how there are only 5 stages. Or maybe 6, there was some rainbow level there too.

And for those of you paranoia people, no. Tails Doll Curse doesn't exist. Shut up.

I feel the need to rate it 9.2. The game is beautiful and the nature around's colorful. I would rate it 10, but there are not that much levels to have fun with. I recommend it mostly for people who like to play 2-player games.

Hey, has anyone here heard of this game called Sonic Robo blast 2? Personally, the stages made for that game really were not built for the controls. Once you get into the later levels, I find myself having to always stop so I can turn myself to an angle where I may not die when I make a jump. After playing the original and playing a few mods, only completing the SA2B mod with Knuckles or Vector with their gliding and climbing, I think that the controls are very much like Sonic R, just a bit more loose. I figure, if someone would make some good Sonic R like levels, add traps, badnicks, and some platforming(and for the love of god, big platforms, precision platforming is the reason why most mods are hard as shit), we could have some good sonic R materiel stages. Here's some videos to show yall what I mean:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=na6laA_Cw1M&feature=related
Skip to 4:00 and look at shadow to see what I meant about having to stop, that pink stuff damages you, and you can fall into like water, so if your still there after you've stopped blinking, that life of your is done.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQooOBt8pOA
Regardless of what you see in the video, you always stick with the one char you picked. Imagine trying to play that whole game without Knuckles, Vector, Rouge, or anyone who can fly. I tried them with Espio and metal sonic, and it wasn't fun.

Now check out the Blitz Sonic engine:

Even though it's stages are almost identical in design with SRB2, it's handling looks so much better, and makes those harder looking parts look more comfortable. Anyway, apply some of the Blitz Sonic stage design, focus more on racetrack like stage design and less on platforming, and we may have something.

EDIT:
In case you didn't know, SRB2 is ported for the wii.

I originally had it on the PC..def very hard to control. what really won me over was the music. I just recently had a friend download all of sonic's music onto CDs for me.. so I've been jamming to Super Sonic Racing everywhere I go now..haha

Graphics kind of sucked too..but I guess it wasnt too bad for its time. It was very hard to beat back in the day, but now I can 100% it with no problem.

I also liked playing as the Tails Doll :)
