For anyone here who actually remember the classic streets of rage series, Bombergames have developed a really good remake of the title for eight years, finally releasing the final version of it about a weeks or 2 ago. After which, Sega asked/Demanded the link be taken down. Read the link for the full story and post your thoughts.

=SB= Sonic Logic Theorist.
I think that is unfair. Sega had a good eight years to do something and instead they decide to wait at the very last version to say something.

lol...Ok but seriously.

Let's think about it for a minute, Many Sonic fan games have been made in the past decade. Sega has never stopped those games, So why is it when this comes around they pull the plug on it?

I just hope they don't pull plugs on other good projects just because they want to. :|

Because this is a fan remake, not a fan game, and in the long run making a fan remake is just the same as making a pirated copy of the actual game, it takes money away from the company.

but its not like anyones making any profit out of it.
people arent stupid now a days.
besides, a fan remake is the same thing as a fan game.

I still can't use this.

You don't have to make a profit off of something to violate copyright claims or damage business. Quick question: If you could get a near-identical copy of a game for free without pirating it, would you buy an official port? Most logical people would say no, hence you just cost Sega business by providing people a better alternate option.

And being a fan remake down to the point where it aims to replicate the original code is what puts this game squarely in line to be dismissed as copyright infringement regardless of its ultimate status as a fan game. Unlike other fan games with a greater degree of original content even in the engine, there's less room to suggest this game falls under fair use. Ergo, Sega have a leg to stand on legally.

Morally though, I think this is bunk, the absolute worst way to communicate with your fans.

my question is what about the SOR homebrews?
its one of the biggest homebrews for dreamcast out there.
theres no telling how many have been made.
why arent they taking them out either?

Uh, because that particular homebrew scene is happening on a system that's been defunct for nearly ten years which means there is no real monetary interest for Sega to pursue it???

My boyfriend's just told me even SEGA struggle with copyright on that (Apparently it's why you never see SoR/Bare Knuckle 3... on collections normally). So it's probably some outside, yet powerful, force pushing SEGA...?

Otherwise they'd have a go at Sonic Retro by now...

Whatwhatwhat? Why haven't I heard of this before now? I always seem to learn about these things when it's too late. :/

I've gotta agree that this is kind of a lame move on SEGA's part. I'm sure they've had some time to pull the plug on it in beforehand, but after 8 years? I know I'd be ragin' if I was working on it.

The game looks like a stack of fun too. Oh well. D|

"However we need to protect our intellectual property rights and this may result in us requesting that our fans remove online imagery, videos or games in some instances".

I guess they have every right to take it down. My question is why? I looked at the game it didn't seem to really ruin the characters it just kind of revived SoR(one of the best games I grew up with) in my opinion. I guess if they really didn't want a pirated game out there making money off there characters I respect there choice.

it amazes me that they havent gone at them yet due to them being the home of sonic 2 hd.

@bliz: they are fan remakes, just so you know.
its the same deal as the sor remake just ported to a system.

Or the fact that they regularly make ROM-hacks... :V

One assumes SEGA know they'll piss off less rabid fanboys...?

When was the last time they made a new Streets of Rage to make money off of? All they've done is re-rereleased the same trio in a few compilations. People would still have purchased the compilations,so unless SEGA plans to come out with a new SoR game soon, I think they need to just back off and let us have our fun.

Remember the Chrono Trigger remake? They then made it for the DS. Maybe they plan on making a SoR remake themselves. Which means we can expect it in about... 4 years. Good job, SEGA! Also, SEGA's PR wouldn't dare pull the plug on any Sonic Retro stuff. They're trying to be closer to their fans. Moreso, they make tons of profit due to Sonic Retro. They spread awareness of their own events, with SEGA's mixed in. Whether they know it or not, they promoted Sonic 4: Episode 1 just by being critical of it. If people are watching to see when S2HD is released, they'll also be watching official Sonic events, too.
