Coming in Quarter 4 this year is a new Resident Evil game, dubbed Operation Raccoon City. It's a third person shooter being developed by CAPCOM and Slant Six Games (notable for the SOCOM PSP games and SOCOM: Confrontation on the PS3). You have the choice as playing as a United States Special Operations team dropped into Raccoon City during the events of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, determined to find evidence behind Umbrella Corporations involvement in the viral outbreak, or as the Umbrella Security Service, which is determined to destroy the evidence (including silencing people).

Leon Kennedy (Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 4) is shown to be at least one of the regular characters to make an appearance. On top of that, ORC will feature a four-player cooperative mode and I might gleefully add, will also be released for Microsoft Windows. While gameplay hasn't been revealed yet (the game is reported to be 45-50% complete at this point), I'm picturing something along the lines of RE5 meets SOCOM. Sounds frickin' awesome!

You know what immediately comes to mind when I hear it'll be a shooter and team-based? Left 4 Dead. I am a huge Resident Evil fan, but Left 4 Dead's gonna be really hard to top if you want to make a great cooperative zombie game. Capcom's last try at that with the Outbreak games just plain sucked and L4D blew it out of the water.

That being said, I got a huge grin on my face when I saw Nemesis' silhouette for a brief second in that trailer. He's easily one of my all time favorite villain characters, and I'd be so happy to see him again. Plus it sounds like you'd be battling against not only zombies, but also the other force you didn't choose (Spec Ops vs Umbrella Security). I love it when a game features multiple factions fighting amongst each other (like in Halo with humans VS Covenant VS Flood).

L4D wasn't a horror game though and I'm not particularly interested in this title as it's looking to be Resident of Duty. Slant Six... Why can't Capcom just develop their own games anymore(Devil May Cry and now Resident Evil)? These western devs aren't any better than they are. Slant Six... They did a good job with their PSP Socom games, but they pissed off a HUGE userbase with their PS3 game that took a year of patching before it didn't suck.

I don't see how you could say L4D isn't a horror game. It's got all the staples of every zombie horror film ever (deliberately, I might add), and in the right circumstances it can be quite scary.

I actually don't mind that there's a western developer behind this one either. In my personal experience, Japanese shooting games (when you can find them) typically don't stand up to the western competition.

eh, I will definitely pick it up. I skipped out on RE5, mostly because all my friends had already beat it before I could buy it. so, maybe if I get this one soon enough I will actually have someone to play with... haha.

What is the difference between a duck?

This seems like RE5 meets Left 4 Dead.. I can only hope it wont be as repetitive or it will get stale horribly fast.

Oh man, although my initial thought is "Sweet!!" , I feel like I'll be playing every 3rd-person shooter I've played before: action only, not the thrill of surviving the horrors of Raccoon City with only three clips of a handgun, few shotgun shells...well you know, the scarcity of ammo.

I do intended on checking this out for myself, but I'm not holding my breath. As I hate to admit it, would be nice to see Leon in action again, the dang agile son-of-a-gun, heh.

Being a MASSIVE Resi fan, I'm a little excited, due to the fact it's set in Raccoon city, and I'm guessing we'll see our favourite locations from Resi2/3 revamped in HD style. (Shooting zombies in a high res'd version of the Police Station...yes please).

Only thing I worry (and the Resi series have been doing this of late) is that it won't be scary, thus losing a lot of it's charm and becoming yet another generic zombie shooter.

That's me two cents.
