THE GAME

Gameplay: Sonic Generations aims to celebrate the franchise's 20th anniversary by taking the player across three major eras of its history: MegaDrive, Dreamcast, and Modern; level locations will be taken from various games throughout this timeline, and different locations will be present on the console and handheld versions. Both Modern Sonic and Classic Sonic will be playable in the same stages, each with their familiar repertoires and attitudes. Specifically, Classic Sonic will play primarily on a 2D plane and be armed with the Spin Dash and Spin Attack; Modern Sonic will retain his Unleashed move set and play in stages that automatically switch between a 2D and 3D perspective and level of control. Characters such as Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow will also be making appearances. 1

The 3DS version will differ in a few key ways. First, all levels sans Green Hill will be different. 2-player competitive mode will also be available for status points, and the game will also feature Street Pass.

What is the difference between a duck?

I'm not surprised that Seattle was ignored again by that little gaming circuit... BUT.. at least we got PAX, so nothing is going to be missed. =P

But considering what its got to work with I have seen some impressive titles on the thing. I tend not to compare graphics of games based on other consoles, but rather what they can do with what they've got. Square Enix is kind of good at getting the most out of whatever system they're on.

That said, Generations 3DS looks pretty decent to me.
I don't know, judging by those screenshots. The game isn't finished and it might look better in motion, but those look worse than Rivals 2 on the PSP which is a last-gen handheld.

Wen, official confirmation from a source would be mightily appreciated, otherwise it counts as a spoiler. xP

I still can't use this.

The Sonic Wikia isn't an official source, not in the least bit. They're reporting information ripped from the demo by fans, not from a credible reporting outlet or Sega. So yeah, it's still considered a spoiler.

I thought we were also taking everything that's spoiler worthy to the Generations Spoilers thread.

^ We were. :P

Anyway, currently at Simon GamePlay with Lil Avii. We both played Modern Sonic's GHZ level. Immediate impressions: Unleashed controls, but better. He's heavier though, and there's an annoying delay in his jump, but the jump is still an improvement. Also, be prepared: The Homing Attack has been mapped back to the jump button instead of X/Square, so Unleashed enthusiasts will die a lot. But yeah, it was fun. =P

Well that sounds good. Gonna have to get use to the remap again though. That might be a pain. A minor pain but a pain nonetheless. So was his voice any better this time around? *Shot* But in all seriousness I really am looking forward to this game. It's already shaping up to be a pretty good one.

What was wrong with Roger's voicing? I didn't care for it period, but as VAing, it was fine.

That was one of my big problems with SU. I wanted a jump dash, but instead normally go flying to death from boosting. Seriously, that was a SERIOUSLY STUPID thing to do!

It was a joke Shenzi. XD

And I had that problem too but I got used to it.

The Homing Attack being mapped to its own button has its advantages, namely it's more difficult to accidentally use and go flying off a cliff.

Screenshots always looks worst when not in motion, like most handheld games. So I wouldn't use them to judge.

I'm impressed with both versions so far. Will still likely go with the 3DS version, once I get the money.

Argh. Totally jelly, Bliz. I was kind of wanting to give the Modern stage a go but the demo they released didn't come with it. Not sure how to deal with the re-mapping, although given that Colours used Jump as your Homing Attack button I should be fine.

As for voice I did think he sounded a little higher in pitch in the latest trailer they released, although it can be hard to tell with grunts. Guess we'll need to wait for a cutscene or something.

I can see those problems in screenshots just as easily when the game is in motion, no matter the game. *shrug*

Heh, nice to know that the homing attack has been remapped back to the jump button. I always prefered it that way. ^_^
