THE GAME

Gameplay: Sonic Generations aims to celebrate the franchise's 20th anniversary by taking the player across three major eras of its history: MegaDrive, Dreamcast, and Modern; level locations will be taken from various games throughout this timeline, and different locations will be present on the console and handheld versions. Both Modern Sonic and Classic Sonic will be playable in the same stages, each with their familiar repertoires and attitudes. Specifically, Classic Sonic will play primarily on a 2D plane and be armed with the Spin Dash and Spin Attack; Modern Sonic will retain his Unleashed move set and play in stages that automatically switch between a 2D and 3D perspective and level of control. Characters such as Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow will also be making appearances. 1

The 3DS version will differ in a few key ways. First, all levels sans Green Hill will be different. 2-player competitive mode will also be available for status points, and the game will also feature Street Pass.

Here's a new Iizuka interview for you all which still possesses massive language barriers for most people here. Confirms nothing we don't already know, but the highlight is that we get to see the ending of Modern Sonic's GHZ.

RAEG.
It's all stuff everyone already knows. |P It's modern + classic, Sonic and friends will be in it, et cetera. They also asked which era of Sonic's history was his favorite, and he basically answered "LOL IDK."

Didn't he admit that he hadn't even played the old games when someone mentioned the co-op levels in Colors?

I find that hard to believe. He's an original Sonic Team member. xP

Ah but designing a game and playing it are two different things. ^_^

Hardly. That's about on par as saying that just because Glen Keane animated on Beauty and the Beast, doesn't mean he's actually seen it. I think it'd be more fair to assume that he has unless there's contradicting statements from the horse's mouth. xP

quoted for truth.

I don't have a lot to say about this. I just wanted to back up Bliz.

But I still say the game is looking phenomenal. Nothing for me to complain about. I'm still not completely sold on some of the art, but eh, I'll get over it soon. :D

Of course people are going to rage, because they forgot this game is supposed to combine both classic and modern elements. :XP:

And the game can easily do that without making those other characters playable. ^^

Not that they wont..

Not that I'd prefer it either way..

But because that's the truth.

I find it funny that the french site always gets this kind of news first.

Also, the graphics look as good as Sonic Unleashed and Sonic 4. Nothing really different there, IMO.

Essentially, there's definitely a level from Sonic 1, and there's definitely not a Wii version in the making.
i'm actually really sorry bout this

How does... ugh... that game even resemble this one in terms of graphics? I think you might mean Colors. |P

No, I meant the 2D sections/Classic sections. They look exactly the same.

That's not graphics, that's... whaddaya call it... the feel? I dunno.

And I suppose they are similar... Only I'm guessing Generations' 2D sections will actually be enjoyable. |D

Also, we'll be getting some 3D levels, probably from Adventure 1 or 2, playable as Classic Sonic.

Also, there will be levels from more recent games. *Hopes for an actually well designed level from 06*

And yeah, only Classic and Modern Sonic are playable.

Not exactly, but yeah. Sonic 4 was pretty simplified compared to this, though.

There are many actors out there who make movies but never watch the final product and I think that's more fitting of an analogy. The actors know what the movie is about but knowing what it's about is different from actually watching the final product. Just because he has designed a game, doesn't necessarily mean he has played it.

Just as well, there are many people in the field of entertainment who do see their own work. I'm not saying it's impossible-- I'm saying I'd rather believe that Iizuka has played the classics in all the years they've existed, especially after directing their sequel, and that I'd rather a direct statement from him saying that he hasn't before I'm just going to blindly assume otherwise.
