The impotent, overcast sun had just begun to kiss the stadium roof, suspended over the screaming stands by impressively carved stone pillars. The day had not brought more snow, though a brisk wind had begun to sail across the arenas, bringing the promise of a cold evening and a frigid night. The braziers were blazing once more at the edges of the arena once more, melting the ice that had formed after the conclusion of the first match. The snow layer that not outright melted now covered a layer of mired peat and gravel. The Arenas had not been attended to; Auriel decided the peculiar conditions of the arena would add a psychological factor. They were still functional, to a degree, and it wouldn't until they were properly shattered by the combatant's conditions. And so it was that the heralds led the two combatants onto the field, the audience roaring in approval. Arena One as actually one of those few battleground that suffered the least amount of damage, and signs of combat. It was known that some matches ended without a struggle, and Arena One played host to one of these abrupt fights. Footsteps covered the ground, a spot of refrozen snow next to a dark stained spot and a spent smoke grenade were all that disturbed the ground. "I hope I needn't repeat myself, gentlesirs," the herald said smoothly. "Please assume your places on either side of the arena and we'll begin." Without further ado, the herald began his introduction. "My lords, my ladies, welcome to the second match of the tournament! We have for you today two new combatants, one of which have proved their mettle and valor. In the hither corner, I give to you a man who has performed well this far, and is no doubt seeking his second victory in the tournament. My lords and ladies, please welcome Alexander Grimm!" "And in the thither corner, I give to you a man who would well seek to deny Alexander a victory in this round, and in so doing, secure a victory for himself! My lords and ladies, please welcome Vanadium!" The audience cheered, and fanfare soared as the herald bowed to the crowd above him. Turning away, he called to the combatants, "Salute your opponent, then begin!" |

Alex walked slowly into the arena, pistol in hand. He was slightly worried about his next fight. He'd never had to fight a robot before. Alex straightened his tie then gave a quick nod to his opponent. He raised his revolver and aimed it straight at his opponents chest. "Ready when you are, robot." called Alex. |

Losing never appealed to Vanadium, except when it was by his own admit. His loss in the first round was nothing more than a realization that his opponent was not worthy to die by his blade. He knew that following that same principle any further would cast him from the tournament; he would have to follow through no matter how pathetic the adversary. The next fighter opposing him fit his definition of "pathetic" to a tee. 'Hmph, a human, the one life form that is just as pathetic as a mobian.' Oddly, this inner monologue did not exclude his creator, also a human. The male had taken his post well before Vanadium had; gun aimed at his chest plating. Ready when you are, robot. He took note that the falling snow that had prevailed through the first round was now succeeded by a gale of cool wind; Vanadium's internal temperature regulators easily took account and compensated for any sub-freezing properties that may result. He looked over to the human, his gaze forever fixed in one position, then lifted one arm above his head. Then, in an act that served no other purpose than to intimidate his opponent, he rapidly collided his forearms, each sequential meeting bringing a thunderous clang along with it. Vanadium approached his own starting position with the same snail's pace as the round previous, giving this new foe the same motivation. "You may come at me now, I don't expect to reach this corner, and pray to your higher being that I don't." He counted each footfall as they occured: 1, 2, 3; 10, 11, 12. His opponent had made no attempt to heed his words, pity. Finally after the 20th step, Vanadium reached his corner, his adversary had made the grievous error of wasting his time, and as such would waste no more of it. The metal of his claws scratched against the metal of his arm as he clenched his fist, in a sense. A faint droning escaped his right arm, as well as a visible vibration. As it continued, the humming grew louder and higher pitched, he stared down his immobile foe as the droning reached its apex. In a split second, a violet-hued blade made of pure energy burst forth from a specially made port at the front of his arm. The muffled high-pitched humming from before had subsided to a barely audible drone, the byproduct of the energy fighting to keep its shape. "I do believe I told you I didn't expect to reach this corner, yet here I stand. My patience runs very thin for those who waste my time, and do you know what I do to those people?" He was answered by silence, his foe hadn't strayed from his pose the entire time, almost as if he were in shock. Vanadium didn't ponder the cause, all he did was ready his boosters, which stood by to release. He got into position, his blade poised ready to strike, his stance hunched for minimal resistence, and his clawed toes raised so the spheres protruding from his legs touched the ground. With his signal, the boosters fired on, propeling him through the field of logs, the spheres kept him firmly in control of his movement. He swerved by several logs before reaching the opposing side of the arena, where his soon to be ex-opponent stood. He pulled his right arm back as he came upon the human, and as soon as he was mere inches from him, he all at once cut his boosters and dug his claws into the gravel, the force from the abrupt stop sending his arm, and blade, square into the stomach of his opponent. The blade seared through everything in its way, cauterizing instantly, until it pierced through his back. Vanadium looked into the eyes of his victim, his face offereing no emotion, but inside, he was filled with a sense of sadistic joy. He swiftly pulled the blade from his victim's lifeless body and watched as it fell into the snow. His blade quickly dissolved away as he turned around. "I make sure they don't live to do it again." He finished, knowing that no one was listening. With that he walked slowly toward the exit. Another severly disappointing round. Edited by Red Ranger Eater, Apr 5 2011, 08:08 PM.
