The impotent, overcast sun had just begun to kiss the stadium roof, suspended over the screaming stands by impressively carved stone pillars. The day had not brought more snow, though a brisk wind had begun to sail across the arenas, bringing the promise of a cold evening and a frigid night. The braziers were blazing once more at the edges of the arena once more, melting the ice that had formed after the conclusion of the first match. The snow layer that not outright melted now covered a layer of mired peat and gravel. The Arenas had not been attended to; Auriel decided the peculiar conditions of the arena would add a psychological factor. They were still functional, to a degree, and it wouldn't until they were properly shattered by the combatant's conditions. And so it was that the heralds led the two combatants onto the field, the audience roaring in approval. Arena Six revealed some footsteps, a certain spray of blood in one particular area, and a congealed pool in a depression indicating where someone fell. The battle ended very abruptly. "I hope I needn't repeat myself, gentlesirs," the herald said smoothly. "Please assume your places on either side of the arena and we'll begin." Without further ado, the herald began his introduction. "My lords, my ladies, welcome to the second match of the tournament! We have for you today two new combatants, both of which have proved their mettle and valor, and perhaps gained your favor in the previous round. In the hither corner, I give to you a man who has performed very well this far, and is no doubt seeking his second victory in the tournament. My lords and ladies, please welcome Blader!" "And in the thither corner, I give to you a man who would well seek to deny Blader his second victory, and in so doing, secure a second victory for himself! My lords and ladies, please welcome Saffron!" The audience cheered, and fanfare soared as the herald bowed to the crowd above him. Turning away, he called to the combatants, "Salute your opponent, then begin!" |

The airbrush is my bitch
|
"And then what? Kill me? That would require you to not be a bitch." He was beginning to regain coherency, what little he ever had.
Hastily Blader began amusing the idea of surrendering. His mangled hand was submerged in mud, just as he wanted it. "Okay, maybe I will throw it in. Obviously you want this more than I do." Despite his best efforts Blader couldn't stop from smiling, he hoped his opponent would just take it as a quirk of his. "I mean, I've already used all my moves." That was a lie. Blader still had one other move that he neglected to use due to its charge time. Saffron's confrontational fighting style didn't help matters much either. "Hell, I nailed you in the face with one and it didn't even piss you off. Good on you." He was squirming now, partly because Saffron was making things uncomfortable and partly because he was shifting his arm behind his back. Knowing that he was well beyond the allotted Blader began to dole out the flattery. In truth he wasn't even considering forfeiting the match, Blader may have thought he was in the process of suffering a slow, painful death but he was no quitter. It was all just to conceal the fact he was charging another energy blast under his body. "It's not like I won't face a weaker opponent come next round, and I am really hungry all of a sudden. God knows if I keep up like this then this might be my last one." The last part of his sentence didn't quite click with the rest of it. Blader was still thinking aloud but had become aware of it, and was covertly mocking Saffron. The energy was beginning to prickle and stab at his back, not even he was immune to the red substance. It was inconvenient, considering what was planned. Blader tightened his grip on the belt. "I've tried stalling, dodging, sacrifice...the Killer B Wave." Dazzling red light erupted from beneath Blader, tearing away what little shirt he had left. The explosion sent his body twirling through the air, it would've been impossible to differentiate between ground and sky if not for the fact the ground was in pieces. For a brief moment the other arenas were visible, most of them deserted. It seemed like things were beginning to wrap up. With little time to spare Blader began to plot his next course of action. He didn't want the match ending before he got some quid pro quo. Unless Saffron had cut himself free the purple hedgehog should have been trailing not too far behind, and Blader had the advantage of not having a foot tied up. His own safety came first however, so Blader straightened himself up and prepared to land safely on the guardrail. He managed to land on it at least, but the railing failed to halt his descent. the wood splintered in two and let him pass. Blader's feet skidded across the mud until his back thunked against the arena wall. There was a silver lining in that the impact helped alleviate some of the pain that came with blowing yourself up. The red demon boy was back on his feet and indeed ready to end things. |
