...

All around the universe, chaos is arising. Hundreds of meteors that seem to have come from nowhere now threaten every planet with life on it in existence. Some religious officials call it the Rapture, others call it Armageddon. There are a choice ten in the universe who know what it actually is. The hail of meteors is called The Reckoning, and it is the beginning of the end of everything.

A young fox stands in his bedroom. He tries to ignore his frantic family downstairs. Although to be honest, he only has a father. A father who is currently calling every shelter within the radius of their home, desperately looking for somewhere that has a slight chance of surviving the impending destruction. The Fox's name is Kevin, and he knows that there is no chance of survival. Not for anyone, except him, maybe. He boots up his laptop computer and inserts a CD he received in the mail today from an unknown source. The CD contains three programs; Pesterchum.exe, contacts.~ATH, and Skaianet.exe. Inside the package was also a letter, instructing him what to do. He moved the programs to his desktop, and ran pesterchum. A messaging client opened up and asked him to input a "chumhandle". He entered it and logged in.

zealousAdventurer [ZA] is now online--

He then clicked on contacts.~ATH. command prompt flashed open and then closed very quickly. The automated script had added 4 new contacts to his messenger. These would be the others that would help him initiate The Scratch.

Alexei watched as the download bar stretched slowly across his husktop's screen. As he watched the download progress, Alexei thought back to how he'd discovered the download in the first place. It had been like any other day, with Alexei surfing around the web in his spare time. However while browsing through one of the many forums that he frequented, Alexei noticed a strange post. Someone had started a topic about some game that would involve the end of Alternia. Alexei thought it was nonsense, but at the same time he was intrigued. He had immediately clicked the provided link and begun downloading the compressed folder that contained the game. Alexei refreshed the forum only to discover that the topic had been deleted and the user, banned. This only served to increase Alexei's interest, and so here he sat, waiting for the download to complete.

Alexei turned away from his monitor at the sound of hissing coming from elsewhere within his hive. It was his lusus, the caretaker who had raised him from a grub. The large snake-like creature had not stopped making noise since it was discovered that meteors were hurtling towards the planet. Alexei ignored the nuisance and turned back to his husktop only to be pleasantly surprised to see that the download was complete.

After quickly uncompressing the files, Alexei opened the folder to look them over. There were three programs; Trollian.exe, Contacts.~ATH and Skaianet.exe. Alexei had copied down the forum post which had explained what to do. Following it's instruction, Alexei first opened up trollian and was immediately prompted to input a trolltag. Alexei quickly punched one in and hit enter.

pseudoInferno [PI] is now online --

Alexei ran Contacts.~ATH and watched as 4 new contacts popped up in his chumproll. He then leaned back and relaxed, waiting for what might happen next.

Far off in the seas of Alternia, a massive black spike jutted from the waves; it was the massive Hive of a young Troll Highblood.
The tower was inconceivably large, the lowest levels were actually subterranean, with the highest level of the tower being almost above the clouds.

Seated in a large, throne like chair in the room at the very top of the tower, sat this young Troll; his name was Devlin Adrakor.
And though he was low on the hemospectrum compared to other Highbloods, as far as he was concerned, he was the greatest of all Trolls.
He abruptly rose from his throne and strode, an air of superiority following him all the way, to a large window that looked down across the seas and straight to the coast.
"Just think." He muttered to his Lusus, a bipedal, daemonic creature hunched in the shadows, "All of those Troll children roam free down there, unsuspecting of the malign evil that is ME."
He made a fist and shook it at the sky, scowling. "One day, Abaddon." He continued to his Custodian, "ONE DAY, I'm going to become the Ruler I truly deserve to be."

The beast merely uttered a sound that was a cross between a hiss and a roar as a reply.
Sighing, Devlin produced a hunk of meat and chucked it at 'Abaddon'. There were slobbering sounds, and blood spattered everywhere as the creature devoured it hungrily.

Devlin shook his head and returned to his throne, flipping open the laptop seated on the arm of the chair.
He quickly signed into Trollian.

He noticed four contacts had been added, and rolled his eyes.

"Oh joy." He said sarcastically, "More lowbloods to commune with."

Shortly after Kevin had booted up the Program, two of the names that were previously grey gained color and an emotion. The emoticons displaying them were odd though, unlike his available choices of yellow faces, theirs were black with horns. He decided to greet then anyways, the fast this process got started, the better.

--zealousAdventurer [ZA]RIGHT NOW opened a memo --
[ZA]: hello?

It was odd that the program would have to mention WHEN the memo was opened, but Kevin waved the thought away as unimportant.

Alexei checked his ChumpRoll and saw that two users were online. One of them had a standard emotion icon, but the other had a strange hornless yellow one. The hornless user soon opened a memo and typed a message. Alexei responded immediately.

Alexei had no idea who this strange fellow was, but he intended to find out.

(Sorry if I do this wrong, also Dri's technology is a bit advance)

In a large hangar, were all sorts of mechs and other Helm related weapons and machines are being built, Dri walks in wearing a head piece of some kind. It looked like a scouter of some kind. However, what was on the screen in front of his eye was a message, a really weird message at that.

"Hey Dri, did you get that port I sent you?" A young man asked him, to which Dri nods his head as he continued to read.

"Yeah, I'm looking at it now... Its... Its weird..." He replied, not really sure what exactly he just uploaded.

'--bloodhelm [BH] has signed in'

"What the?... I signed in to what?" Dri asked, to which at this point he started to ignore the guy that was trying to tell him something.

"I'll be in my office." Dri states as he continued to walk through the hangar and headed for his office. He started to see others sign in and soon someone posted a greeting.

"Huh... This is odd... I'm in a chat room?" He asked, to which he cleared his throat as he continued to walk through the halls.

"Helm, post a reply."

"Helm online, awaiting command to post." His helm replied to him, only he could hear his helm's voice though.

"Greetings, this is Dri from Helm sector Alpha. Please state the cause for this chat session." Once Dri spoke those words, the his helm started to post it as a reply to the memo. Of course, it showed up after PI's post.

[DW]: Alright you gaggle of idiots, before I say anything more, lets get one thing straight.
[DW]: It's clear to me that I am the ranking highblood in this chat, and therefore I have natural-born authority over all of you.
[DW]: You would do well to remember that, when you are speaking to me, you are speaking to one who is infinitely your better.
[DW]: That said, I am the great and mighty Overlord- or at least, I will be ONE DAY- Devlin. You will refer to me as 'Sir' or 'My Lord'. Not Devlin. None of you have earned the right of formality yet.

---

Devlin templed his fingers and bared his fangs, grinning triumphantly.
"Good, my dominance has been cleanly established." He sighed contentedly. "It's good to be me, Abaddon. Have I ever mentioned that?"
Though he couldn't see it, in the shadows his Custodian rolled his yellow, lupine eyes.

It seemed as though one of these guys was some sort of soldier or something. Where ever Sector Alpha was, it didn't sound familiar. The other apparently had a superiority complex. And what's this talk about blood?

[ZA]:...what?
[ZA]:whatever, anyway, did you all receive a letter with your copies of the software?
[ZA]:Mine says we need to "establish server players" or something.
[ZA]:I'm Kevin by the way

Kevin added the last bit quickly, he didn't want to start off on the wrong foot with these people, unlike some others.

Kenji stood out on the balcony in a tall flat in the city. He stared up at the burning red sky alight with meteorites from the incoming Apocalypse. He had his sword rig attached to him as he leaned on the railing, gazing up as he waited for his computer to finish downloading these new programs. He received the disk in a random package that his landlord brought to him earlier that day, saying it was for him, but he never said who it was from. He flicked his sights over the bright city as he wondered whether or not he actually ordered anything in the years prior to getting the package.

He shrugged in his thoughts. Maybe it was sent out to the wrong person, and someone in the world must be wondering where it is. Who cares? He had it, if someone asked for it he'd say it was his and dismiss the misplacement altogether. At least it was a change in his static agenda, which was formally eat, pay rent, sleep, repeat. He was never a materialistic man, but he always held on to anything of his family. He didn't really know why he'd bother with such meaningless items as a mid-range Katana and a Odachi the size of himself, he guessed it was because he knew how to properly use them through the training he received in his early years.

His computer interrupted his thoughts with a loud DING, announcing the completion of the downloads. He peered over at the screen to confirm this and a moment later he sat down at the desk to check what he had downloaded. In his New Downloads file, he found an IM program titled ChumpRoll. Intrigue, he clicked on it and signed in.

"Likin' the username...." Kenji thought, pleased simply with his username. Noticing a flashing orange tab labeled Contacts, he click on it to find four other accounts logged in, chatting in a memo.

Well, I dont see why not.... He opened up the chat and began to reply.

Devlin eyed the comments in the chat with distaste.
Clearly, all of these beings were of minimal intelligence, and likely of absolutely no use to him whatsoever.
However, with stupidity comes a need for someone to lead, as a shepherd leads his sheep. And Devlin was the self-declared best man for the job.
But that could wait- there were more important things to discuss.
Such as...

--digitalWarlord RIGHT NOW replied to memo--

[DW]: ...Right, well, as of that last comment I can tell that the vast majority of you are CLEARLY beneath me in terms of intelligence.
[DW]: However, you'll do. For now.
[DW]: But that's not important at the moment. I feel it must be asked- what, exactly, are we all supposed to be DOING?
[DW]: And more importantly, why in the nine hells should I care?

[ZA] Well, apparently we're supposed to be playing this game together.
[ZA] It's really important somehow, and I don't know about you all, but if it has something to do with this whole "apocalypse" thing, I'd sort of like to do something about it!
[ZA]Let me boot up the program.

Kevin moved away from the chat to click on "Skaianet.exe". The program started with a small animation of a spirograph while loading, and then showed a screen with two buttons, one labelled "Server" and another labeled "Client". Curious, Kevin clicked the server button and went back to the chat while it loaded.

[ZA]Well, I've started a server, you all sho

The last sentence went unfinished as his thumb accidentally hit the enter key. he went to finish, but noticed that the Skaianet window was now asking for an IP address to connect to.

[ZA]...okay, so it seems only one person can join a server at a time.
[ZA]Weird.

He continued to type, but he suddenly fell out of his chair due to a small quake. Another meteor hit, this one felt close. The sense of urgency that would affect any normal person now overtook Kevin, as he frantically scrambled back to his keyboard.

With all the talk about the game, apparently Kenji wasn't the only one who received the package. Something's not right; why would these 5 random people all get in the mail some weird-ass game and have instructions to play it with each other in the final hours of earth's existence. It seemed a bit... unfitting. He hope there wouldn't be some melodramatic explanation for all of this, and would just rather sulk about in his own apathy on the roof of the flat complex, awaiting the inevitable. But strangely, at the same time he would love a second chance at life.

[KF]: it seems highly unlikely that the five of us r suppose to play this game together nya
[KF]: as if its some sort of world-saving thing may occur nya
[KF]: hell what is this game nya?

Kenji slipped his headphones on and began to blast his favorite techno beat as he waited for an answer, leaning back in his leather office chair with his leg crossed over the other and his arms crossed.
