If you're still awake in the US, turn on CNN or Fox News and check this out - Japan got rocked by an 8.9 earthquake, triggering several tsunamis that are sweeping across parts of the country. Holy mother of corn...8.9 quake, then a 7.1 aftershock, the tsunamis...couple that with the population density in Japan and we have a recipe for tragedy. That's one of my worst nightmares caught on film, there. EDIT: Checked the news channels, but apparantly Poker is more important, 'cause it ain't on. Already scary, but let's hope it stays at tsunamis. I don't expect it'll happen, but Fuji is a volcano and quakes can trigger 'em, so my prayers go to the mountain staying cold. That and minimal losses.

I've seen enough footage in the short time I've been watching the TV. Several videos of massive waves of water just blasting everything out of its path. One video nearly - and I can't even believe I'm saying this - nearly had me in bloody tears. It was a poorly edited shot of another rolling torrent of water, illustrating how it was tossing cars aside like they were nothing. I say poorly because almost out of shot something caught my eye. Inside one car was a family. They were banging on the windows, and the car was just rolling over and over and over and over... fudge man... just fudge. |

Japan has it especially tough no matter where the epicenter of this quake is. If it was in the mainland, you'd get severe damage from the quake itself, and if it's in the ocean (like this one), you have tsunamis and their damage. Tsunami warnings have been issued for other Pacific islands, including Hawaii. The water damage is really bad; it's terrible to look at it. Edited by D-Metal X, Mar 10 2011, 11:44 PM.

I seriously can't believe some of this footage. It's pretty much left me speechless. The earthquake was bad enough, but to get the tsunamis on top of it is just... damn. There were buildings and cars that were on fire while being swept away with the wall of water. |

...ouch. It seems to me like the planet is just getting more and more angry at... something. Especially down here in Australia, although it's confined to the mainland. Seriously, I'm fairly sure you've all heard about the Queensland floods, but some things apparently don't want to let up. It's not as serious as those floods, but it still doesn't really help anything... EDIT: Now I look really inconsiderate for not really being able to comment on the actual quake and tsunami itself, but there's really nothing I can say :/ My condolences, of course, go out to everyone affected. The news here ain't worth SHIT, so I'm keeping up online. I can only hope that...I can't even finish that thought. I don't know what to hope for. I don't know what to say. Relatedly, This is why I hate people. |

In some ways, the latter post is a logical point of view to take. However, directly wishing for the death of any individual is just cruel, and I would seek to change that person's views for the better. I do agree that posting these comments like that is horribly wrong, though. |

If anyone wants a good feed, Al Jazeera is doing a bang-up job. They just got footage of the PM reporting that the magnitude was measured at 8.4. Reports are already in saying that 8 people are confirmed dead. Man, watching this thing is surreal. The Pacific coast lines have pretty much been swallowed up and obliterated, and a bit of that carnage is gonna be felt around the entire Pacific rim. I can only imagine the recovery effort that's going to have to go into this, as well as the economic fallout. Godspeed to Japan and everyone affected. Also, if any of you are in or have family in California or Hawaii, you may want to watch out. There's tsunami reports for those states. EDIT: They're reporting that aftershocks are about 7.1, and another earthquake is probably imminent for the northeast coast. Edited by BlizShadow, Mar 11 2011, 12:55 AM.

The warnings of tsunamis have extended to the entire Pacific area, except for the mainland U.S. and Canada. Holy shit. And MORE earthquakes are imminent, not to mention their aftershocks.
