CTRL + F > Type in member's username.

If you're too lazy to do that, then I can't help you.

It's a de facto standard across several systems. Yeah, I can see how it's not plausible to set up separate skins to fit everyone's aesthetic appeal or to set up custom controls with the closed-source methodology that Zetaboards employs, but just bleaching everything out is a massive, massive 180 degree turn here.

Just get everyone together, review all the skin subsets and agree upon a standard of colors that will stand out uniformly. If we need manpower to read, tweak and test the code, we could get it. It'd be a lot more progressive than this argument.

Yeah not too fussed with the different colours, but maybe differentiate from the moderator/admin though. That way they stand out better ad you know whos who.

One of the MG forums i'm on are all red for members and green for moderators, works well.
I'm going to quote this.
This is at least more colourful then this bland and kinda dumb looking with the staff members shown in bold text.

Other one specific colour that won't change no matter whatever you'd possible achieve.
This.
It doesn't really bother me too much. If I needed to search for a specific member there's always Ctrl-F. That always works for me.

Edit: Dammit Bliz ninja'd me.

Yes, because that doesn't sound biased at all.

And what I pretty much disagree with is that you completely missed the point of "telling the users apart." It's not about changing the color with every rank. I couldn't care less about the ranks themselves, but it was nice to look at the online users list and be able to distinguish people by their username color. It's not like we're putting people into groups, it's just an easy way to see who's online.
What does bias matter? Everyone and every argument here has biases.

Anyhoo, like I said, you can easily CTRL + F a member's username if you want to find out if they're online quickly. It takes just as much time to do that as it would scrolling to the bottom of the page and going through an assortment of similar-looking names to find the person you're looking for. This is not a dire issue that can only be solved with username colors.

Why go through all the exta trouble of making two separate versions of every skin to cater to picky users? I honestly don't have any problem with this, but that might just be me. One colour gets the job done.

It really seems to boil down to "I don't like it". If it's really that much of a problem, perhaps the users in question could code it as a side project.
It's the fact that so many members don't like the change. If it were just a few people who didn't like it; it wouldn't really matter.

Eh, I'm gonna just observe now. I've given my (not well thought out) 2 cents, and complaining more isn't going to fix anything.
There's alternative methods to finding a member you're looking for than looking for a blue name. As Bliz suggested, Ctrl+F.

It seems to be more aesthetically pleasing, and I don't see why members are pouting and incapable of adapting.

I still don't like the change, but I'd like to remind people that this wasn't agreed to be put to a vote - Neo has said nothing about giving anyone the option, and frankly if this is how he wants to run the site then it's tough shit.

Yeah, I can't say I'm fussed about the change, as I don't notice a difference in my username colour and style whatsoever. Low post count FTW!

I think it's a good idea to keep everyone's usernames one colour, since it does make certain skins difficult to view. If people really want some customisation for different ranks, then I think different coloured/themed icons next to their username would be a nice alternative. I'm not bothered either way, though. :)

],Feb 27 2011, 12:51 PM]I can see your point, but sometimes you want to find out if a specific person is online. Sure, we can look through a topic we know that person has posted in, but it's just quicker to go on the front page and look at the online list.

Say there's 40 members online, and I want to see if Spin's on. As it stands, I'd have to look through all the names to find that one four-letter name we all know and love. Before, I could just look at all the swirly blue names (pretty sure that's what he had) and pick it out from there.

I doubt people looked at names to tell what rank that person was. If I wanted to know what rank a person was, I'd just look at that little section on the post/profile.

It all comes down to convenience, really. Some of us are just lazy.

...well I feel like a total genius now.

I'm gonna miss not having to do an extra few keystrokes, though. And the constant "MUST GET BLUE NAAAAAAAAAME" from the members.

If it's not such a dire issue, why not just allow the community to pool together as a small engineering team to tackle it instead?

Metallix be trollin'.

But anyway, the username colors being gone isn't really what bothers me. What bothers me is that this was done with the snap of Metallix's fingers without any warning or any consent from the thousands of members affected by the change.

I know some of you won't like this but due to the fact that not one color will blend in nicely with EVERY skin I have removed all colors associated with rank. This way we don't have usernames that are unreadable in some skins.

I have also removed the cursive(blackadder ITC) font from all ranks as not everyone has that font installed and it looks bad without it.
So that's what happen! I was worried there. But now it's gonna be hard to to the ranks at first. But I trust you.

They got Freddy. Poor Freddy.

Since we've come this far... I'll now say that some people are over-reacting to this. If it's how this is gonna be, then we're gonna have to deal with it. xP

To be frank, it's not THAT big a deal anyway.

Thats the thing that I find most confusing about this whole topic.
Why should he have asked?
Its such a little change that makes no difference to the forum as a whole.
Maybe its just me but I'm really struggling to see what everybodys getting so upset about.

Well he is the boss-man. But it doesn't really mean an end to -SB-. It's a change that we all need to learn to adapt to.
