We are still watching
Windows 7's first Service Pack, which is a collection of patches designed to address core operating system issues was released today. You can either retrieve it through the built in Windows Update feature (see Control Panel or type 'Windows Update' into the Start Menu's search box) or manually at the Microsoft Download Center.

Please keep in mind that you need to have a genuine version of Windows to apply this Service Pack, and to download the correct file depending on your edition. The 32-bit version is denoted with 'x86' at the end of its name, and the 64-bit version is denoted with 'x64'

I'm currently installing. I won't be able to see it until after though. I will get back to you on whether it works or not.

Because that totally makes freakin' sense. Or at least it does in the case of the 64-bit version.

Still happy with Vista here, but then again I'm lucky enough to have picked up a computer that was powerful enough to run it properly in the first place... how does 7 actually compare then?

Not too much. There are a few nice features I personally like. Such as cascaded windows and the taskbar is a little bit easier to use. The main folders (My Pictures, My Documents, My Videos, and My Music) are separated into a Libraries folder. They still have the gadgets but it isn't a main feature. It feels tacked on more than anything. Ummm... thats all I got. Somebody else may have more differences.

Edit: Just remembered Vista doesn't have Chess.

Eh... I like chess what can I say. Nah but it's actually pretty good on the tech-side of things. I personally use the cascaded windows when I type. It's a lot easier with two windows side by side. That and it makes programming a breeze. Definitely worth the money I spent (Read: Begged for for Christmas).

Each to their own, man. I just prefer to think of it as a board game and play it for real, rather than a computer game. But that'd be getting slightly off topic.

Well my dorm friends don't play so I've gotta get some practice. X3

But I'm still waiting on the installation. Hopefully it will be done before too long.

Yes Vista doesn't have chess it is quite disappointing but at least Win 7 does. It's such a shame I cannot get Service Pack one... not yet until I get a legitimate copy of Win 7 but that will need to wait until I get my new PC.

It is good that the service pack will fix some of the issues and that is... kind of stupid of them putting x86 onto the 32 one now and having the x64 on 64bit. The latter at least makes sense but can't they put it as x32 for the 32-bit operating system?

What is the difference between a duck?

I believe that the term x86 has to do with chipsets, a basic 32bit chipset is x86, a 64bit chipset is x86-64.. which was later shortened to x64. Some people refer to the 32 bit chips as x86-32 to better differentiate the two but honestly once you figure it out it's not hard to figure out which is the proper stuff for your system.

As far as Win7 vs. Vista is concerned, 7 seems faster and more stable and it doesn't ABSOLUTELY require the higher amounts of RAM standard that Vista did, though you will still notice considerable slowdown on computers with little RAM. As for the rest of the stuff.. it's basically polished Vista, which means that my original belief that Vista was basically a huge public beta for 7 (ala Millennium for Windows 2000) hit the nail on the head. Is 7 significantly better, not significantly, no.. but it is noticeably better and more secure, though no matter how secure an OS is, it's still good to tote around the usual anti-malicious cocktails on your computers as long as they don't include Norton of McAfee.

Norton and McAfee -shudders- evil software!!

I will admit that I don't really like Win 7 and I really miss having Vista because I just preferred how Vista worked but it DID kill my PC and I'd much prefer it didn't (obviously) but Win 7 does the job and is at least a lot more efficient at running that Vista is so I will give it props for being secure, a little faster and looks nice enough on the eyes (although they really should GIVE you the option to have the old task bar back if you want!)

I personally don't mind the new task bar. It makes things a little bit easier when I have multiple things open in different programs. It also doesn't clutter up my taskbar with multiple open objects.

According to my gf, they did it. You gotta download a third-party program to change backgrounds.
