The sun arose the next morning over a whitened landscape. The cafeteria had prepared a light breakfast for those who wished to eat before their fight, and bonfire pits had been dug at intervals into the ground. The snowstorm had largely blown itself out; only a slight flurry floated gently downward from the sky. The door to the arena battlegrounds stood closed, and Auriel stood silently in front of them, his gauntleted hands clasped behind his waist.

When all were gathered, he spoke,

"There be one o' ye who'll be th' Champion this time 'round. Many o' ye'll fight fer it, but only one'll claim it. Oi pose these questions t' ye: Who then 'as th' right t' call us victor? O' who'll th' poets adore in prose an' song when th' dust 'as settled? 'Tis naught but th' roaring crowd, th' audience who takes note; th' final opinion that crowns heroes an' makes tyrants rot in cold dungeons. D' ye 'ear 'em? D' ye 'ear their clamour?"

Auriel raised a hand above him; at this signal, choreographed fireworks soared up from the castle turret in the middle of the battleground, and split the air with thunder and noise. The audience in the nearby distance roared their approval.

Auriel let his arm fall to his side, and glanced up and down the group of assembled warriors. "Go, an' win glory fer yerself, yer family, country, or whomever. Yer destiny awaits." The doors behind him opened to reveal a stone passageway, held up by reinforced wood buttresses and lit by brass lanterns.

Inside the hallway were doors, next to which heralds were standing, calling out names.

"You there! You must be Shanui Reefthorn...? Oh, I should hope so. Come on then, let's get you to your match."

The herald promptly leads you to the arena, the snow crunching under his paws. There as a layer of snow about four inches thick, covering what appeared to be a layer of peat and gravel. Wooden logs were posted up from the ground, seemingly at random and offering a modicum of cover. To counter the heat, eight large iron braziers on metal legs were set against the perimeter of the arena, blazing hot from the fires that had been burning in them since early morning. The snow under them had already melted, turning the peat into a thick, muddy bog several feet out from the braziers.

"Now then, you've understood that you've ten blows on your opponent to win. Torso (that includes the shoulders, mind) and thighs count as one strike, the head, two. Only seven points to be counted by ranged. If you've a mind to surrender, shout your intentions, that the judges, your opponent, and myself can hear them. Do you understand?" After hearing the reply, the herald nodded, and turned to the arena audience.

"My Lords, My Ladies, welcome to the first round of the Fourth SB Tournament! Announcing his debut match in this special Bonus Round, I give you Shanui Reefthorn!"

The audience erupted in applause and cheering, and the fanfare horns blew their salutation. With a flourish, the herald bowed to the audience, then to the Judge's box, and left the arena.

Auriel appeared in the judge's box, and leaned over the railing to address the combatant below. "Th' match will nae begin until ye choose which option t' take. Ye 'ave three options! Option One an' Option Two'll yield a battle, an' yer goal'll be t' acquire victory by landin' ten strikes, or by havin' more strikes than yer opponent when yer time is up. Th' third option means ye decline th' bonus match, an' ye'll accrue neither a victory, or a defeat. Ye look like a sporting fellow, so Oi don't think ye'll be takin' th' third option. If that's th' case, which will it be? One or Two?"

The least they knew about him, the better.
Hence forth the assassin hadn't done much then preserve the confrontations between the many different foes he'll one or another, will have the honour to challenge.
Gear checked, all set, as he followed the heraldry until he received what has to be done to achieve victory. Nodding in approval after the rules had been respectively told.

"My Lords, My Ladies, welcome to the first round of the Fourth SB Tournament! Announcing his debut match in this special Bonus Round, I give you Shanui Reefthorn!"

Special eh?" There was no time to ponder on such differences.
Just move on, take the crowd's roaring, looking to be entertained whereas they've been seated. Walking out to greet them, only to shudder at the sight of snow in front of him.
Nevertheless trudging through the snow, already feeling cold on his feet.
The thin layer of snow added upon his shoulders, as he revealed his hood, only to have most of the crowd silence, as what horrid creature was he.

Raising his sword in the air, it only brought them shouting in awe once more.
"Ye look like a sporting fellow, so Oi don't think ye'll be takin' th' third option. If that's th' case, which will it be? One or Two?"

Well of course he wasn't backing down, even as much he won't show his skill versus nether of the combatants, he sure wouldn't walk out with empty hands.
"I'll choose number one." The assassin shouted, before looking warily about the field, seeing it's many disadvantages using fire, because of the wooden logs.
Oh well surveying the field while awaiting for this secret bonus they have in store for him.

Auriel nodded gravely. "Very well. Good luck, an' good fight." As he returned to the shaded judge's box out of view, he made a motion to someone in the shadows.

Directly below him, on the ground floor of the battleground, two iron-bound doors opened, sweeping out the snow that had fallen off to the sides.

The competitor felt particularly small in the doors' creaking wake, like he was some last-minute replacement for a giant. But that would all disappear in due time, as once the tiny dog squeezed through, he felt his senses alight: Heat blazed around the arena. Wet peat, cold slush, and mud was nestled between his digits. The wooden poles were dark at the top, soaked with melting snow, and smelled rotting to boot. There was also generic crowd noise to keep his ears busy- Shouts, jeers, questions, clapping, shifting in seats- and the smell of sweat and food which the heat only served to amplify at higher altitudes. But the snow that was left so far down in the arena did a fine-enough job in freshening the air.

Then, of course, the big lizard. Aldagar saw this guy back when he briefly met Jennifer, but he hadn't made any note of him. Who knew he'd be the first opponent?

Scaly skin, and swords...and guns. And grenades. He could not be any more well-armed. And the skill involved in wielding all of that had to be incredible.

Aldagar sunk down until his shoulders formed a peak. He had no intention, or rather, any choice, of letting this fellow control the match. Just one well-placed shot could throw it all away. So he stalked up towards a wooden column and began to approach, slinking tightly around a few more, then settling low behind the snow that still remained piled up against one of post's base. Shanui was now a degree to his right.

Nestling down further, he slipped an arrow from his belt. The bow came second. The arrowhead was then pointed right for the raptor's midsection. He would have to move.

Across the field his rival had made an entrance.
The crowds intensifying roar, now looking forth to see the first blood stain released from nether one of them.
Once there... Poof, now he's nowhere to be seen. The assassin felt the need to move, couldn't stay vigilantly by knowing that his rival could easily surprise him from a ranged distance.

Crouching down, keeping his head low, as he quickly looked to use the other column as cover. But true fact, he wouldn't know where to strike, nor did he now if his rival had seen him. The slushy sound was clearly a negative benefactor in attempt sneaking, nor was it useful running into it's slipperiness as he could easily end up making a fool out of him self.

The element of use, what better then to use the snow it self.
Gathering it all into one giant snowball.
Now the leap of faith, he'll become a running target, best of luck that his rival ain't the best shooter around.

Run... run! Out from the opposite side he arrived from, the assassin burst out from his temporarily hideout, hiding like the coward he may be.
The snow gritty conditions under his feet, splashed all around.
With the best of luck, he wouldn't have mistaken his rival's position, and used his snowball, in attempt flicking some childhood prank in his rival's face.

It was a fortuitous attempt, closing down the distance, simple overthrowing the dog before he could release it's arrow.

Aldagar had seen him alright; Against the neutral tones of the area, the lizard's blue coloring was enough to register to even his gimped eye. But Al wasn't necessarily dependent upon sight anyways. The sounds of every untrained footfall in the snow and all of his equipment twisting and tugging was as subtle as a rave in an elevator. He already knew Shanui was coming around, and with snow he had picked up no less. Snowballs. Really. That was enough to make Al smirk.

When the raptor emerged ready to throw, Al rolled laterally out of the way and released the arrow. Naturally the shot was shaky, but hitting him would've been an unintended bonus anyways. Instead, the dog abandoned his bow, shooting up into a quadrupedal run to try and close what little distance remained between him and Shanui. He then launched claws and teeth first at his arm.

(Slight edit for grammar. xP)

The assassin quickly realised what mistake he had made, but wasn't quick enough on his toes to avoid the inevitable. The arrow pierced connected with the raptor's lower chest area. His expression as flawless with the crowds booming with joy.
Such wound wouldn't tarry him for long, he knew his chances had weakened, and it's more of a race against time before it had completely consumed his energy.

Both were now running toward each other, the assassin used his left hand, unsheathed his weapon and immediate attempted to counter the ferocious dog's attempt by skewering him down.
The sword approached in a slight awkward diagonal slash, more or less to use a defence rather then offence, but perhaps it was a moment of surprise seeing as they were so close within each other's reach.
Here's hoping for the best, or his arm would surely just be the beginning.

((On his belt the sword is positioned on his right side, so the diagonal slash will move slightly towards the left.))

A natural assumption to go for the right arm, but Al felt a little bit of dread trickle up his throat when he saw the sword on that side of Shanui's body become unsheathed with the untargeted hand! Ambidexterity-- The bane of his life.

The unsheathing caused Al to look over and up immediately, cancelling the charge for the arm while his body continued forward through the air nonetheless. Now, he was blind in the direction that he was going, oblivious to whether he'd crash headlong into the raptor or simply land in the snow. Either result would've been glorious for him, but for now, he threw his right paw around in some quick attempt to knock the blade off its arc. That would undoubtedly hinder his digging ability, but he didn't want to risk a slice to the vitals anymore than a gunshot wound.

The only thing Shanui achieved was mentally changing his rival's course.
Expecting him from the rear, he would intentionally perhaps have chosen the sword, but refrained from using his metal.
Yet the little mutt's fast manoeuvrability attempt removing the blade from his firm, but sluggish grip, clearly feeling weaker already was a success.

It a fortuitous counter move, perhaps that of an unexpected point of view, he tried to kick the dog, like that of a horse/donkey wishing to get away with pesky lurkers from behind. Each foot was armed with a lethal talon, able to cause some serious injury. But it ain't attached to his heel, so the likeliness they'll do any sort of harm, rather then putting some distance between them, isn't more then a daring move from the raptor.
It would however be difficult turning the tide, seeing as the terrier had basically advantage firmly in it's grasp. What little he could achieve was to fight back, with all of his methods, as he surely couldn't atone for what's already been done.

Al let his hands absorb the shock of the fall; They were now back-to-back. Once his back end followed through to the ground, the terrier immediately bent his torso, his front-half coiling around to the right in an attempt to grab Shanui's tail. But the accompanying snarl became hollow as he felt a heel thrust into his shoulder. It was powerful enough to toss him head over heels a few times, but he thrust his claws outwards and into the ground to immediately regain traction.

He had enough time to figure that the distance created between them now wasn't enough to rule out the possibility of going back in and bringing Shanui down to his level. So in good faith, he shot off again. No lunge for the arm this time. Al was now in the classic stalking position-- scuttling forward like a wolf with his belly that much closer to the ground. His paws worked back and forth over the snow like a locomotive to put him back near Shanui, and once again, he had his teeth locked, deadset on sinking into a shin this time.

Just the amount of momentum, the assassin knew the sword was outside his boundaries. Choosing it's natural outcome by ending facing his rival, face to face.
There was merely a few seconds before the terrier had closed down the gap between em.
Considering the slushy condition, there's a chance he'd may end up slipping right into the raptor's breathe. All other options were no good.

Shanui brought out the slimiest, most putrid ache breathe out from his mouth, even it's sheer density was that much harder to see, the effect would still be there, as do it's awful sound.
This would in any case make his face more vulnerable seeing their level of height almost compelled with each other.

The arrow would essentially put him out of his misery, and what little that still lingered his very awareness, must be dealt with at the best of his abilities.
That was one of his many mistakes, taken the little one way less seriously ending up with a major set of drawback.
Even his growling stomach felt almost itchy, yet not in it's good sort of fashion.

Even the slight wariness from the heat, had made him all that more daze, as surely he wouldn't last more then two, max three rounds, without receiving treatment, so this was but one of his first tricks to scuff the battle to his small moment of success.
That's if Al didn't decide to ignore the effect, it would only appear as an after-effect, seeing how his furry rival had always had this in it's firm grasp.

Al could smell his acidic breath for miles. And just the mere sight of saliva stringing along his opening mouth was more than enough to make him launch to the right at the last second and gag.

But the dog was frustrated of the silly dance routine; Adrenaline was flowing, but he hadn't gotten his claws in the guy yet. And already, he'd been donkey-kicked of all things! The arrow was an unintended victory, sure, a bit bittersweet since the guy was apparently still healthy enough to fight, but Al was aiming to put this guy down as quickly as possible. He wasn't handing over an extra victory to anyone.

After a quick spit and a few breaths to keep lunch down, Al inhaled and hollered a shrieking Bay in Shanui's direction. He had little knowledge on the advancement of lizard hearing, but hopefully any potential stun would be sufficient enough to allow him time to shoot back around and successfully dig both claws and teeth into his left calf. And he attempted so with a loud squall-- The dog was angry.

Another moment's relief, and with a futile effort he merely tried to slash his opponent, but were is that little mutt?
Frantically looking around, a mere few seconds later, he felt needle sharp teeth and claws run through his left calf. "Get away from me." The raptor sporadically attempted slashing, however numb, and shocked, he didn't pull the strength carrying anything in return.

Surely this wouldn't bode well for him. The ferociousness was to much of a burden and his dangling feet, crippled him from standing.
Crumbling onto his right thigh, he couldn't just witness the terrier overwhelm him.
His feelings in both arms and legs were returning, even if that was of no benefit, considering the gashing wounds he had already received.

Desperate moment, he tried to reach out for his magnum38, only to have him target the mutt's head, and not even thinking about it's chance of retreating, he simply released the trigger toward Al's head, in a futile attempt ether to remove him, have him removed, but end up shooting him self, suffering another beating that would surely take him out, as he had no sufficient endurance enough to get back up.

The crowds excited roars as they watched. What little snow, that was still descending down from above, was cold, even mild to it's touch, almost refreshing as the raptor were considerable sweating.
At least knowing that he's breathe effect wouldn't just vanish if he had been so fortunate to connect with him earlier. Yet the arrow stuck in his lower region wasn't doing him a favour, this would surely be his last beating, or else he'd surely end up getting screwed and end up in some pile of blood.

Al wasn't just nibbling like a rabbit in a carrot patch-- His entire upper body was thrashing back and forth. Blood began to pepper the combatants and surrounding snow, and raking his claws down the lizard's thigh and shin didn't ease that downpour. The little terrier was aiming to claim a piece of meat, to leave him a crippled sitting duck, so whatever aim Shanui had during the onslaught certainly wouldn't be enough to just blow the dog's brains out.

But the grabbing of the instrument did reach his ears and frightened Al anyways, so he just let go and leaned over far, the bullet cutting a nice gash across his cheek and following down his shoulder blade and side.

Damn; Would that count for three? If such were the case, he was down by that much; He'd been going for outer extremities this whole time. But there was a quick way to get back in the game-- Al just stood up and pitched the right set of five claws towards Shanui's head.

Suffering from the amount of blood already spilled, disoriented and weak, he couldn't even grasp the moment, escaping. No!
He watched as if it's all he could ever muster, and such sacrifice that could atone for what's already been lost, would only linger his own death, and for what matters, Al could be keeping his distance if that ever were...

His thoughts abrupt, yanking his head backwards, ending to his whole body following there after. He felt like a beaten lizard, probably ending up being served at some restaurant. Fancy no one's ever eaten dinosaur meat except that old chubby cartoon.
Expecting a second blow, he manages to bring his arm across the face, using it as cover. Before considering his numbers counted.
Four to the terrier, curse that arrow. He couldn't handle the short amount of elapse, and ended up fighting in desperation, ending up beaten to the core, there's no way to return.

"I surrender." Hoping for some sort of mercy, after all he's lost the bonus round. Now all he needed was a good rest, treat those wounds, and make sure to improve toward the next few rounds, surely he wouldn't do the same mistake again....?
