The sun arose the next morning over a whitened landscape. The cafeteria had prepared a light breakfast for those who wished to eat before their fight, and bonfire pits had been dug at intervals into the ground. The snowstorm had largely blown itself out; only a slight flurry floated gently downward from the sky. The door to the arena battlegrounds stood closed, and Auriel stood silently in front of them, his gauntleted hands clasped behind his waist. When all were gathered, he spoke, "There be one o' ye who'll be th' Champion this time 'round. Many o' ye'll fight fer it, but only one'll claim it. Oi pose these questions t' ye: Who then 'as th' right t' call us victor? O' who'll th' poets adore in prose an' song when th' dust 'as settled? 'Tis naught but th' roaring crowd, th' audience who takes note; th' final opinion that crowns heroes an' makes tyrants rot in cold dungeons. D' ye 'ear 'em? D' ye 'ear their clamour?" Auriel raised a hand above him; at this signal, choreographed fireworks soared up from the castle turret in the middle of the battleground, and split the air with thunder and noise. The audience in the nearby distance roared their approval. Auriel let his arm fall to his side, and glanced up and down the group of assembled warriors. "Go, an' win glory fer yerself, yer family, country, or whomever. Yer destiny awaits." The doors behind him opened to reveal a stone passageway, held up by reinforced wood buttresses and lit by brass lanterns. Inside the hallway were doors, next to which heralds were standing, calling out names. "You there! Are you Ryou Kazaki? Oh, I should hope so. And you, you must be..... yes, that's you, Blader. I recognize you from Ser Auriel's description. Come on then, let's get you two in your places." The herald promptly leads you to the arena, the snow crunching under his paws. There as a layer of snow about four inches thick, covering what appeared to be a layer of peat and gravel. Wooden logs were posted up from the ground, seemingly at random and offering a modicum of cover. To counter the heat, eight large iron braziers on metal legs were set against the perimeter of the arena, blazing hot from the fires that had been burning in them since early morning. The snow under them had already melted, turning the peat into a thick, muddy bog several feet out from the braziers. "When I say, you'll head to the opposite sides of the arena, you two. Next to the fenceposts, we've got them marked. You, stand there, and you over there. Now then, you've understood that you've ten blows on your opponent to win. Torso (that includes the shoulders, mind) and thighs count as one strike, the head, two. Only seven points to be counted by ranged. If you've a mind to surrender, shout your intentions, that the judges, your opponent, and myself can hear them. Do you two understand?" After hearing the replies, the herald nodded, and turned to the arena audience. "My Lords, My Ladies, welcome to the first round of the Fourth SB Tournament! Announcing their debut match, I give you Blader and Ryou Kazaki!" The audience erupted in applause and cheering, and the fanfare horns blew their salutation. Bowing, the herald turned to the combatants. "Head to your starting positions, salute your opponent, then begin!" Edited by Talancir D'Landior, Feb 12 2011, 07:54 PM.

TIME TO REALLY EXPLODE!
|
Ryou watched his shot miss by the hairs on Blader's head and let out a growl. He had NEVER missed at that close of a range before. It was infuriating, but he managed to suppress his anger long enough to plan his next move. Unbelievable! He actually dodged the bullet... it had to be sheer luck... there's no way he has clairvoyance... there can't be... bastard... Ryou knew what was going to happen next; Blader was still charging right at him.
I don't even have hair, simple child... regardless, another facet of your personality is revealed. You're arrogant, you're belligerent, you want me to fight you in CQC... well, I'll play your game... go ahead and assume I'm not skilled in hand to hand... Ryou knew he wasn't too strong. His melee attacks were often utilized for disarming or distracting. Luckily for him, he only had to strike Blader, not hurt him. His leg barely hurt anymore, thanks to the wonder of endogenous opiods, so he was in an adequate bodily condition. Not only that, but he still had Kuroi no Ken sheathed away. He was sure Blader had not seen it. Ryou had practiced extensively with it; he could draw it and attack in the span of a few seconds. Coupled with his speed, it would certainly be effective in getting quick hits. Blader was close. It was time. Ryou set Koroshiya to charge mode, getting its [Burst Fire] mode ready. There would be time before it could fire it again, but that was of little issue at the moment. He quickly placed his rifle into its holster on his back, readying himself for CQC. Here he comes... well, time to let the elements of surprise assist me... I have three of them so far... my knife, my vial, and his lack of knowledge of my skill... I can dodge quickly as well... Ryou waited for Blader to come to him, holding out his arms in a fighting stance. He also feigned a nervous look on his face, raising his eyebrows and moving his lips into an expression that could be construed as sad. Hopefully, that would have allowed Blader to fall right into Ryou's hands. |

"Hah, you look scared!" Blader watched as Ryou set the rifle away, ensuring that there wouldn't be any more gunshots for now. Despite having tried to come off as friendly earlier he had failed to notice when someone was trying to lull him into a false sense of security. His heart was racing just from the thought of what he could do once he was in range, of course it was always racing so there wasn't much difference. As far as Blader could tell his opponent was completely defenseless, exactly how he liked his opponents. The excitement showed on his face as he wore a smile that stretched from ear to nonexistent ear. Finally Blader was close enough to where he could see the folds in Ryou's pants, and launch an attack. With fluid movements Blader planted his left foot firmly in the snow and pulled the other back. Quickly he brought his knee up, hoping to strike Ryou in the stomach. Failure wasn't and never was an option for him, but with Ryou's hidden armaments it may have been the only one. |

TIME TO REALLY EXPLODE!

Ryou steadied himself, tightening his muscles and waiting for Blader to make his move. Soon enough, the red creature was right up close! Ryou would not stand still and take an attack, that just wasn't his style. He thought he had the advantage; Blader would have to attack him and being on the defensive would allow Ryou to quickly move out of the way. As soon as Blader was close, Ryou saw Blader's left knee land forward and quickly moved two steps to his (Ryou's) right, watching said Blader's left knee fly up next to him. Without thinking too much on whether Blader was purely a leg-based fighter or not, Ryou moved forward and threw his counterattack: he planted his own right foot into the snow, leaning forward. He clenched his left fist and swung it back-first in a sideways motion at Blader's shoulder, making sure to keep his body facing forward. He was hoping to hit Blader while Blader was executing his attack; Blader would have to put his foot down before he could counterattack or block, thought Ryou. If he hit Blader, he would hopefully get him in the shoulder, counting as a hit. Regardless, he would move out of the way and force Blader to come at him again. He made especially sure to execute an attack that required little momentum, thus allowing him to dodge subsequent attacks if need be. |

Being so up close to his opponent made watching movements much easier, though Blader probably would've preferred to not see his opponent easily dodge his attack. Not only that, Ryou was launching an attack before Blader had a chance to finish his own. Son of a bitch, that's rude! Preferring not to take a hit in his bad shoulder Blader thought he would force Ryou to cancel his attack with one of his own. Spinning on his heel in Ryou's direction Blader let the leg he had just attack with stretch out and relax, smoothly transitioning into a spinning kick. His body twisted in tandem, and Blader took the opportunity to take the punch in his right arm instead. Despite this he continued with his twirl with the hopes of getting a strike as well. His moves were big and showy but flowed together gracefully, it was in stark contrast to Blader's chaotic personality. It was their natural flow that Blader hoped would compensate for how telegraphed they were. Natural movements meant faster attacks, and if he moved fast enough the element of surprise was meaningless. In this case his speed wasn't exactly remarkable. Still, he aimed to get Ryou in his side with this move and maybe force him to the ground if his opponent's balance was just that off. He'd already begun to miss using his red energy and intended to find the time to initiate a close range attack using one of his moves. There was one move he hadn't yet used and at close range it'd be perfect. He'd already started planning it out, for once. He would force Ryou to the ground and use the Killer BB Gun. According to the rules laid out it wouldn't cause him to win, but Blader planned on killing him anyways making it irrelevant. |

TIME TO REALLY EXPLODE!
|
Ryou completed his attack and made sure to step forward, trying to get himself out of range of any subsequent attacks Blader would throw at him. His punching attack required little momentum and shifts in balance, allowing him to keep his body rigid and upright. That came in quite useful, as Ryou was not expecting Blader to twirl around and launch a kick from the opposite direction. Said kick impacted Ryou in his side, sending a wave of pain down his oblique muscles. This Blader may have been a soccer player or something with such leg strength, thought Ryou. Regardless, Blader had connected and gotten one of his ten hits. Damn, that hurts! From what I can tell, he uses kicking attacks when it comes to melee fighting... if I can just subdue his legs somehow... Thankfully, Ryou had finished stepping forward, keeping his body upright, straight, and balanced. The kick hurt, obviously, and its impact startled Ryou. It knocked him to the side, but the iguana was able to regain his footing and avoid falling over. Adrenaline rushed through his veins; he quickly turned to face Blader, getting ready to defend against another attack. Charging Blader and being the one on offense was not Ryou's initial plan; why instigate if he didn't have to, after all? Ryou was hoping Blader's arrogance would lead him into continuously charging at him, allowing to iguana to quickly evade out of the way and counterattack each time. As Ryou was formulating this plan, however, another detail popped into his mind: Blader's energy wave attacks. He hadn't used one yet. There was no reason for Ryou to assume that he had "run out of ammo", so to speak; he didn't know the details of how the strange waves were formed, after all. Ryou knew Blader could launch one right now, and it would be notoriously difficult to dodge at such close range. A change of plan was necessary; Ryou realized that he may just have to go on offense soon. He looked at his options: he had Koroshiya charged up for Burst Fire. At the range they were at, all three bullets could definitely hit Blader, especially if Ryou managed to get closer. He still had his blade and his vial of poison. Hitting Blader with Burst Fire was his ultimate goal, however. To do that, Ryou realized he would need to incapacitate Blader or leave him vulnerable. Furthermore, he had to avoid Blader's energy attacks if he decided to use them. Charging would be a risky proposition, but if done right it could put Ryou at a sizable advantage. I'll charge him, then I'll use One Hundred Souls technique to incapacitate him... One Hundred Souls was Ryou's primary melee combo. He would hit Blader with a karate chop to the side, hopefully causing him to move towards that side to block. Then he would strike with his fist on Blader's neck, and finally follow it up with stab from his blade. However, he would mostly likely change the blade's attack or increase the duration the blade would remain in the body. He would decide that when the moment came for it. Ryou, not being too far from Blader, ran forward towards him until he was in range for striking. Making entirely sure not to use too much momentum in case of a counterattack, he planted his left foot down and slightly lowered his body, hopefully throwing Blader off. He kept his left arm bent forward in front of his head to block a kick attack if necessary. He then launched his quick karate chop using his right arm to Blader's side, while simultaneously rising up. He hoped that would hit and distract Blader, causing him to lean to the side that was attacked. If it did, Ryou would follow it up, if it didn't, well... he would have to think of something else. |

Alright, score! Earning his first strike of the match left Blader absolutely estatic. To assume he took great pleasure in seeing Ryou fault would be no stretch of the imagination. As his opponent turned to face him Blader hopped from one foot to the next, his arms prepped up despite rarely ever throwing a punch. He'd nearly forgotten that he intended to get Ryou to the ground in his state of ecstacy but the joy of executing a successful attack was too much for him. Though one might say he was easily amused said amusement gave him the confidence one needed to keep their head in the game. So confident, was he, that he stood back and waited for Ryou to launch the next attack. He didn't have to wait long as the sniper was soon charging at him with the intent to strike. Overconfidence wasn't his only vice however, he also had a tendency for incredible recklessness. He stomped his feet into the snow for leverage and raised his arms up, making sure to keep focused on Ryou to see what he planned to do. In the end he didn't see anything, but he did feel the side of Ryou's hand connect with his torso. His body jerked in response to the blow but overall he'd managed to remain upright. Quickly he planted his arms flush at his side to where one was over Ryou's hand. Of course, his opponent was trained in hand to hand combat, experienced and eight years older than Blader, who had little personal experience and pitiful upper body strength. If Ryou wanted to move his hand there was no stopping him. Blader's intention was to alert himself to when Ryou actually did, planning on giving himself time to prepare for whatever the assassin had in store. With his opponent this close there wasn't any need to shout over the roaring crowd, so Blader took the opportunity to chide Ryou once more. "Ooh, you're getting physical...Wanna be my prom date?" It was borderline gibberish. Blader was just saying things with the hopes of pushing one of Ryou's buttons. Knowing this isn't a complete verbal battle Blader cocked his head back and swiftly brought it down with the intention of meeting Ryou's head mid-rise. From there he had many options but for the most part he planned on keeping the Iguana close, hoping to earn the remaining nine strikes in one fell swoop. He hadn't sacrificed a strike for nothing, after all, and he hadn't forgotten about the sniper resting on his opponent's back. As far as Blader could see the best course of action was to keep things short. His mind wandered back to the sniper. Blader had never gotten to use a gun before, at least as far as he knew, and for a brief moment he considered prolonging the match for the sole purpose of stealing his opponent's weapon and getting a few shots off. |

TIME TO REALLY EXPLODE!
|
Ryou didn't realize how lucky he could get at times. His most recent brush with Lady Luck came as he finished his karate chop attack. As he rose, he leaned back on his right foot to stabilize himself before he could lean forward and throw a punch. But before he could throw said punch, a giant mass of red entered his field of vision, startling him. He certainly wasn't expecting such an attack and it was certainly a odd sight, to say the least. As such, his attack was interrupted: Ryou was forced to take a step back to avoid the headbutting attack. He let out a mental sigh of relief; not only would getting headbutted at such an angle hurt quite sufficiently, it would also give Blader TWO hits. Either outcome was clearly not in Ryou's best interest. Regardless, his attack flow and momentum were thrown off. Ryou needed to change his attack style on the whim, and that was something he wasn't used to. And obviously he had no time to plan in this instance of milliseconds. Mentally unsure about what to do, Ryou ended up simply following his instincts. Noticing that Blader's head was in front of him and lowered, Ryou quickly balled his fists together and rapidly held them over his head. In a fast a motion as when he raised his arms, he brought them down in an attempt to strike Blader's head. Ryou hoped that because he had responded so quickly, he would be able to catch Blader while he was still in the "motion" of his headbutting attack and strike him. |

As Ryou moved Blader felt his hand brush past his arm. This, coupled with the lack of any impact on his headbutt alerted Blader to a failed attack. Shifting gears Blader stooped down low and stretching one leg out he slid it across the snow at Ryou's ankles. While trying to make up for the strike he'd carelessly thrown away Blader managed to unintentionally duck under his opponent's next attack, too engrossed by the sense of urgency that being two to one gives you. It hadn't occurred to him in the second he thought to sweep the leg that it'd hit Ryou in one of the few places that wouldn't matter strike wise but if fate was kind Blader would manage to get his opponent on the ground like he previously intended, but Ryou had already proven he wouldn't be easily toppled. Losing faith in his physical abilites Blader was nudging the idea of lapsing back to beam spamming. |

TIME TO REALLY EXPLODE!

Ryou felt his attack miss as he was bringing his arms down; he made sure to stop himself before his his body was bent forward at about a one-hundred degree angle as a result. Thanks to his stopping, Ryou's head was facing the ground below him. His excellent eyes noted an approaching black shape in the peripheral vision of the left eye, heavily contrasted against the bright snow. Not wanting to take any chances, Ryou quickly took a few steps in the opposite direction the shape was approaching. He was quite thankful his leather shows were large (hell, they were practically boots) allowing him to traverse through the snow at such a critical juncture. Now at a (slightly) safer distance, Ryou was able to turn his head and determine what was coming at him: it was Blader's leg in a sweeping kick attack! Ryou then turned his whole body around to face Blader, able to swiftly dodge the attack by backing up his feet in the snow, via a shuffling motion. Once he had done so, he thought about what he could do next. There was little time; action had to be taken immediately. Blader was still low, so he had to use a low attack. He didn't want to rush in again, that was for sure. Without much more thinking, almost as if it was a reflexive action, he swung his leg back and kicked the snow around him at Blader, making sure to quickly retract his leg in case of a counterattack. With a series of such quick kicks, he launched a fair amount of snow at Blader, as there was plenty around them and at a decent height, too. Ultimately he stayed back, hoping the snow would at least distract Blader and award Ryou some more seconds to formulate a better plan. |

Any impact could only mean one thing, the attack had failed. Blader brought his leg back in and tried to think of another plan. It was then that he was interrupted by a most diabolical enemy-snow! Waves of the powdered ice rushed at him, his only defense being to raise his arms. "Hey that's, really uncalled for! I'm gonna tell-" He stopped to sputter. "Ugh, it got in my mouth!" Rather than get up Blader put aside the minor inconveience and spread out his arms, tensing his hand up to the point where veins had become visible from under his red hair and skin. Blader then puffed up his chest, with what was a mystery. At least it was until a puff of air escaped in the form of red energy. Before he completely lost control Blader sucked in the breath, unleashing a plethora of red energy that from his hand. It was of the pseudo flame variety, just as when he had first used it. Just like the first time he summoned flame like energy Blader launched the Killer B Wave. He made sure everybody knew this. "Killer B Wave!" The red flame heeded his words and shot out from his hands. Instead of aiming for Ryou, the blast was aimed at the snow a ways off on the arena floor.Upon impact a flurry of powder flew into the air, and gripping his arm with his free hand Blader directed the blast to plow past himself a Ryou. The energy wave kicked up snow in its wake, perfect for sending a sizable wave of snow back to Ryou. It would've been doubly perfect if he had instead aimed the attack at Ryou and not used it for petty revenge. It was Blader's way, unfortunate enough. He had been wronged and it was his duty to pay back the offender tenfold. Actually attacking his opponent hadn't even crossed his mind, and Blader didn't even realize that he was wasting his energy on a distraction. All he hoped was that he would cover Ryou in snow and teach him not to kick things at him. Edited by Badx, Feb 26 2011, 09:51 PM.

TIME TO REALLY EXPLODE!
|
Ryou actually let out a chuckle upon seeing the snow distract Blader, but with the added bonus of annoying him. One of the key points of his training as an assassin was to utilize the target's environment to the assassin's advantage; but still, kicking snow just seemed silly in its own right. Nevertheless, it accomplished what Ryou wanted it to: it distracted Blader long enough for Ryou to move to a new location. Ryou immediately ran as fast as he could to the side, his shoes allowing him fairly decent traction through the snow in his path. Keeping his eyes on Blader, he stopped for a brief second upon seeing Blader outstretch his arms. Another attack? Damn, I better keep moving! Remembering what had happened to him the first time Blader launched one of his attacks, Ryou made sure to keep himself moving and ready to dive to avoid another blast. Ideally, he would land on his hands and immediately push himself up, if it came to dodging of course. But then again, there may not have been a need for it. Glancing at Blader as he ran, Ryou continued along his path. A pillar was nearby; Ryou would hide behind it and prepare to use Burst Fire. Barely hearing Blader announce his attack thanks to the crowd which was no longer sensory adapted, Ryou again stopped for a brief moment, wanting to see what Blader was cooking up this time around. He didn't have to wait long.
That attack again? I better try and make it to the pillar... if I can't, I'll drop down! With his plan of action in mind, Ryou once again continued his running, soon breaking out into small hops in an attempt to gain more speed. When he glanced back at Blader for that brief second, he saw the energy wave leave the red creature's hand. "Damn!" he growled, realizing he hadn't reached the pillar, which was a few critical feet away from him. He watched as the attack began its trajectory, getting himself ready to drop... ... only to see the attack go in a completely different direction than straight at him. "What the..." Did he miss on purpose? It must have been a distraction! I better keep running! Conclusion in mind, Ryou finally made it to the pillar. He stooped behind it, drawing Koroshiya off of his back and placing it in his hands in the flip-aiming position had used earlier. He was ready to fire, although he knew it wouldn't be as accurate unless he caught Blader in a vulnerable position. He poked his head around the side to locate his opponent and formulate a plan; as soon as did so, however, he saw a mass of white in his peripheral vision. Ryou turned his head towards said mass and noticed it was a significant amount of snow heading right for his direction. "... you have got to be kidding me..." he muttered, getting behind the pillar and bracing himself. It was a significant amount of snow as well; the pillar barely blocked it. Ryou was subsequently covered, and it wasn't pleasant. Barring the fact that it was freezing, it was quite hindering physically. By shaking himself, he managed to knock of most of the powder, but he was still quite cold. Setting down his rifle on the ground below, Ryou shook himself again, though slightly more violently, wanting to warm himself up. It worked, to a small degree. After stopping his bizarre movement, he made sure to grab Koroshiya once again, turning around the pillar to see Blader, waiting for the next attack. |

The airbrush is my bitch
|
Blader watched as Ryou ran for cover, thinking he was trying to avoid the incoming snowstorm the entire time. Once he hit Ryou Blader jumped for spiteful joy. "Hah, throw snow around now, you snow throwing bitch!" He twirled around for a bit, calmed down a bit, then scratched his head a bit wondering what to do next. For the first time the boy looked a bit sheepish, before looking towards where Ryou had run off. "Well...guess I should kill him..." Looking down at his shoes Blader pondered how to properly go about doing this. Ryou was gaining distance again, and Blader had just wasted an energy blast. He'd have to wait awhile just to charge another one. Considering that he and his opponent were just recently have a snow fight Blader figured he'd keep the childish games going. With a casual stroll he walked to the left a bit, just far enough to where the pillar was dead in front of him. Then, he power-walked. If Ryou came from one side to shoot at him, Blader would moved farther to the other side to keep out his site. It was incredibly simple and just the way he liked it. Barring any unforeseen consequences he could easily walk up to the assassin and stall with more physical combat, maybe if Ryou was as simple minded as Blader he'd switch to the other side as well and the two would engage in a juvenile game of keep away as Blader creeped his way closer. Keeping in mind the fact he'd tried recklessness not too long ago and failed damped his mood, but the battle was starting to wear on him. The fact he had almost lost control of his own powers didn't go unnoticed, his body was beginning to tire while the energy inside him remained as restless and chaotic as ever. If he failed to keep up with his own abilities he ran the risk of trying its patience. There was no telling how long the match would go on, making this the worst case scenario. |

*Cracks knuckles* okay... D-Metal X's Score- Spelling and Grammar were fine. I really liked this match and your character's coolness. You used the environment to your advantage very well. Badx's Score Spelling and Grammar were fine. Your character was a good foil for D-Metal's and vice-versa. You also used the environment wonderfully well. In Short- This is my favourite match of this round. I don'thave anything negative to say about either competitor's performance. You two seemed evenly matched throughout and the fight was extremely entertaining. I want to give you guys a tie, but since there's only three judges... POINTS- 1 for Badx. |
