So I finally got rid of Verizon... Pretty much they are the most overpriced wireless phone company out there!! Their lowest plan is $40 a month but that isn't really true is it? No because the require you to have a measly 25mb data plan for $10 more a month. So their absolute lowest services is $50 a month for 450 minutes and 25mb data for internet. This does not include texting! Which means every text with this plan is 20 cents per text. You can get a bundle for 500 texts a month for $10 more though... So essentially you're paying $60 a month at this point for that. Add on the $6 a month I was paying for insurance and you have about $66 a month for a VERY limited plan... The last straw in my patience for them was the fact that they wanted $95 for me this month for no reason! I did not go over on anything, so I was pissed! I pretty much terminated my contract, and while that was costly, it was worth it to wash my hands of them. |

I cant STAND phones that dont have a keyboard and not in QWERTY format! I mean, how do you expect to type!? Unless its where you press one button several times to get one letter, then thats fine, though i still cant get use to it. |

I agree, I require a full qwerty keyboard and that's what I got.

I use T9 function on my old phone at the moment and I can type just as fast, if not faster with it than I can on my current keyboard. To me a phone becomes a PDA/Palm Pilot the second it no longer has Number Pads. It becomes a mini-laptop. I want a "phone" not a mini-PDA-Appoverloaded-qwertykeyboarded wanna be laptop". Of course, I am just old fashioned. |

It can be pretty helpful to have a next gen phone though. It basically saved me the money by not having to buy a stand-alone gps which is usually much more expensive than the phone itself. |

I do understand it's uses and potential benefits but for someone who wants to take pictures, browse the internet, make calls and text I don't need one that has GPS and games and such. |

A GPS would actually be pretty useful. I wouldn't mind one of those for my phone. Too bad mine is a basic Samsung from AT & T... |

I had one of those for a couple years, now that I think about it the phone was pretty bad but I still have fond memories of it... Also more on blackberry's, I only use mine for web browsing, music and messaging. I really don't feel a need for any of those expensive apps, and even if I did blackberry barely has any good apps. |

People always say they don't need a high-end smartphone until they actually come to own one. Then they get pissed if they leave the house without it. Happened to me over the Holidays. I went from a no-name and very unreliable Motorola phone to an LG Optimus. The Optimus is essentially the EVO but without 4G. Never actually asked for it either; My brother just happened to be thoughtful enough to know that I needed a better phone for the sake of communication, so he got me that one and put me on his plan, (He has the EVO). And wouldn't you know it-- I can't go a day without playing Angry Birds or browsing YouTube or fiddling with the GPS or reading a book, and for the longest time I was adament on not getting a smartphone for the very same reason listed here: I didn't care about all those features. Well, I didn't care about them because I had lived without them. Now that I've seen how they impact my daily life, now I protect that little purple phone with my life. These damn phones can convert you in an instant. xP;; |

TIME TO REALLY EXPLODE!
|
I agree with Bliz. My dad and I have AT&T's Family Plan and I think about 2 years ago or so we were allowed to upgrade our phones to iPhone 3Gs for like 99 bucks. So we did, and let me tell you, that phone has become a part of me. It's just so convenient, with the internet browsing, phone functions, GPS, and all the various apps I downloaded for various mundane things from converting measurement units to finding out when the next bus is coming. Not to mention the games are awesome. Like Bliz, I love me some Angry Birds and play it every day. You may knock off a smartphone as gaudy, overrated, or useless, but if you try one, you'll most likely convert. They are that awesome, seriously. Edited by D-Metal X, Jan 29 2011, 11:36 AM.

I don't think I've ever bought an app... I just download them off the internets. One of the best I've found is SoundHound. You just let the phone hear any song, and it'll tell you the band and song name. It's perfect when you're listening to the radio and find a song you like. |

I should be more specific I have had a smart phone, had the iPhone hated it swapped it over for my old phone again and also tried a Blackberry for a while, didn't like that either. I don't like touch screen as my fingers are too clumsy, I don't like all the applications because the vast majority of them I would never needs. I do agree though Bliz I get pissed off if I leave the house with my phone. But I get like that if I leave the house without my usual things; phone, mp3 player, wallet... so that's not saying that is exclusive for smart phone users. Even people who have crappy old phones like me get annoyed when we go out without them. |

The problem with phones and the talk plans is they go out of date quicker then a cat hearing the tin open for its dinner.... My uncle changes his talk plan and phone about 2 months after my dad and always gets a better deal from whatever operator, as they have had a reshuffle with prices and stuff always ends up with a slightly better phone or more cross network mitnutes etc... I never thought i'd need a camera phone, until it was needed in an accident and always have a phone with a camera now just encase anything else is always a bonus. |

Speedy - REMEMBER actual camera right (for next month)? Camera phone's aren't as good when out and about. Although they are very practical in situations like that few times in our shops when things have been stolen or broken and we need to take pictures with our phones and send them to insurance companies so they do have a practical use.
