Developer: Danger Close, EA Digital Illusions CE
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Genre: Military First-Person Shooter
Release Date: October 12, 2010
Number of Players: 1 (Single Player Campaign/Tier 1 Mode), 24 (Multiplayer)
Platforms: Microsoft Windows, XBOX 360, Playstation 3

It sounds rather odd to bring up a review of Medal of Honor (Which so far has sold 4.16 million units) so late after the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops (Which sold 19.97 million units), but you know me as always being a bit late to the game. I purchased Medal of Honor (PC) on sale at Direct2Drive for $29.99 (half of the full $59.99 retail price).

Minimum System Requirements
Processor:Intel Pentium D (3.0 GHz), Intel Core 2 Duo (2.0 GHz), AMD Athlon 64 X2 or better
Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows XP/Vista/7
System Memory: 2 GB
Hard Drive Space: 9 GB
Graphics Card: NVidia GeForce 7800 GT / ATI X1900 (256 MB graphics RAM)

Cy-Fox's System
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 TK-53 (1.8 GHz x 2 cores)
Operating System: Windows XP Professional (32-bit)
System Memory: 4 GB (3.5 GB recognized by Windows XP)
Graphics Card: ATI Mobility Radeon 2600 HD (256 MB)

You could actually consider Medal of Honor to be two games sharing the same name. The single player portion, developed by Danger Close, is based on the Unreal Engine 3 engine and the multiplayer portion, developed by EA Digital Illusions CE (DICE) is based on the Frostbite engine (also used in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 1943) and this to me is a major flaw. There is no consistency between single player and multiplayer. While the single player portion did not have any problems with my system, the multiplayer portion brought up the classic 'white screen' that was the figure of complaints from many Bad Company 2 players. I was only able to bring that to a halt after tweaking my drivers.

The game takes place during the opening invasion of Afghanistan during the War on Terror in 2001. In the single player portion, you are placed in various roles. Principally you will be controlling Tier-1 special operations troops from the United States Navy SEALs. Of the two Tier-1 operators you control, one is named "Deuce" and the other "Rabbit". You also control Army Specialist Dante Adams in the "on ground" portion and for a short time, Captain Brad Hawkins, an Apache AH-64D helicopter gunner. I won't go out of the way to spoil the story. What I will say is that it's like any other military FPS. Nothing is really new under the sun. I'll also say that the single player portion pretty short. I cleared the hardest difficulty with a combined playtime of under one day. Modern Warfare 2 looks like Mount Everest in comparison at Veteran difficulty.

The single player portion also offers an extreme level of difficulty called Tier 1 Mode, of which player progress is tracked online. I haven't started this yet, but from what I gather, it sounds something akin to Modern Warfare 2's Special Ops mode.

Multiplayer on the other hand is basically like Bad Company 2 without vehicles. Same engine, same movement. Like I said earlier, a lack of consistency. You are given three preset classes which evolve as you progress: Rifleman, Special Ops and Sniper (in which you start off with a sniper rifle..equipped with a Red Dot sight. You have to unlock a scope later on). Security is also another shortfall. Though multiplayer is supposedly secured by Punkbuster, I witnessed a hacker in a team deathmatch server earlier this evening, and there's not very many maps compared to the offerings from Call of Duty. There's no free for all deathmatch mode either. On the plus side, there appears to be dedicated servers that support 12 on 12 teamplay.

Interface
7/10 - I take points out for lack of consistency. Two different engines, two different interfaces, which can make it hard to adjust to.

Graphics
9/10 - Stunning visuals between the two engines, even on a low power rig.

Single Player
8/10 - Too short, but enjoyable.

Multiplayer
7/10 - Lack of deathmatch, only three classes, and odd starting mechanics.

Story
7/10 - It's your typical modern warfare FPS.

Sound
10/10 - Music was composed with the location in mind, and the sounds are consistent with any military FPS.

Total Rating: 80% - Worth it if it's on sale. At most I'd pay $40, not the full $60.

Trying to go with a theme this time
12 on 12 multiplayer? BC2 Multiplayer engine? No FFA?

I think you rated a bit generously in the multiplayer department. ^^; Thanks for the review!

According to Metallix's regulations, which you have not supplemented in writing, that is not the case.

What is the difference between a duck?

Lets not argue please, I think any word written in the post counts as a word and it doesn't matter to me as long as the review is insightful and takes you from point A to point B to the finish in a good manner.

Anyway, this game was so awful, I sold it after 2 weeks (bought it for $22 from K-mart with some deals and got $24 back from Gamestop) it was just too clunky and had no fluidity. I didn't enjoy it and I won't recommend it in the slightest.
