It's been far too long since I've posted a character here. And, well, I've been on a role with this ever since I got on my computer. He's one of my firsts, so he's been collecting dust for quite sometime.

Name: Ray Hampton
Alias: Metalcal Doctor (for providing some with mechanical limbs)
Age: 22
Birth Date: December 17
Species: red fox
Gender: male
Height: 5’ 10”
Weight: 171 lbs. (+12 w/ RTM-034)
Dominate Hand: right
Marital Status: relationship (Kate Redgrave)
Sexuality: heterosexual (straight)
Birth Place: N/A
Residence: N/A
Occupation: Project Manager
Economic Class: middle
Alignment: neutral good
Universe of Origin: Sonic

Special Attacks- (all which require his RTM-034 mechanical arm)
Electrostatic Slug. Ray mechanical arm starts to makes a warring noise as electricity starts coursing through the metallic shell of the RTM-034. The next normal attack will stun and deal electric damage.
Hand Extension. A second is taken to connect metal chords to his robotic hand before being propeled a great length. If the hand is shot some distance before impact it reels whatever is grabbed, but if impact is in close range then it tries to continue pushing a path.
Artillery Shell. Removing the mechanical hand an opening is revealed allowing the large range launch of an area damaging mortar shell to both damage and knock back those in and near impact. The mechanical arm stops functioning until the hand is reattaching, which then a steady follow of steam releases from various areas to keep from overheating.
Overriding Protocol. The magick running the RTM-034 instantly removes the cool down duration of his special attacks and doubling the next special attack's damage output only for a few seconds. Regardless of whether or not he uses a special attack once time is all of them go under x1.5 of their cool down duration.

Abilities & Aptitude -
Magickal Mechanics. [Innate] Electrical magick runs the inner mechanics within his RTM-034. It lets off an aura that causes surrounding mechanical devices and allies to increase efficiency, reducing channeling duration.
Mechanical Engineering. When given time Ray is able to find an answer and fix a problem with a piece of machinery.

Weaknesses-
Pet Reliant. Ray has a decent damage output with his right fist, but it's the RTM-034 (his left robotic arm) that he relies on due to its damage output and versatility. The destruction of this mechanical arm often leaves Ray quite vulnerable in a fighting situation.
Environmental Conditions. The RTM functions best under ideal conditions and doesn't take kindly to the many weathers that can hinder it. Hot areas often lead to overheating, extending cool down duration. Winter snow can cause the insides to freeze, at times preventing certain functions from working. Water tends to slower its functions.
Magickal Cooldown. He doesn't require any health or mana to use the RTM's special attacks, but using one of them influences the rest of his special attacks to undergo some cooldown duration, allowing electrical magick to steadily regenerate.

Personality-
This mild mannered red fox has a great sense of interest and curiosity in the technology of all types of machinery. Often questioning how to make improvements Ray will turn into a workaholic whose temper will occasionally burst when he can't find a solution to a problem.

Personal Relations-
Friends:
Unnamed. Classmate. NPC
Kate Redgrave. Red fox girlfriend. The difference in age may've seemed large in school, the two ended up being a closely knit couple.
Park Landford. Human, Deceased. A fellow co-worker who lost his life during the first raid on the "Aerometal Project".
North. Arctic fox hedgehog hybrid, traveling bard. On one of North's travels he had stumbled upon the worksite of the "Aerometal Project". After a performance and some conversation, Ray made a payment to the bard to travel and sing a song to his lover. Some years later their paths will cross again on their honeymoon.
Rivals: N/A
Enemies: N/A The empire that raided the "Aerometal Project".

  • A silver necklace charm worn on around his neck has the right half of a broken upside-down heart. Usually tucked under his shirt.
  • Light grey no sleeved shirt with black lining. It hugs somewhat close to his body.
  • Brown long sleeved collared trench cloak worn only during rainy weather and cold days.

Weaponry-
RTM-034 (Ray Tech Model-034). After losing his left arm during the Aerometal Project, Ray had made himself a mechanical arm as a replacement. The armor shell that protects its inner mechanics, fueled by electrical magick, is thick enough to withstand punishment from weapons that of a short sword, while also remaining light in weight. This model's hands have a wide palm with only have three big fingers that look to represent the thumb, index/middle finger and ring/pinky finger. Increases in reliability came overtime with each passing model.

Items-
Artillery Belt. This belt straps over the shoulder and cross the body, holding his artillery shells.

Back Story- (In reality, my focus has been on what's currently below than working on Ray's history prior to this. Hopefully it's clear enough.)
Ray received mail. The government had sent letters for many job offerings surrounding their large and expensive project. And its great payroll the job was hard to resist.

It didn't take long for Ray to make his decision, but being physically separated from each other had its emotional concerns. They've spent day and night together for some years and he had no desire to leave her behind. They came to a compromise and agreed to having a long distance relationship so long as Ray returned once the government project has completed; and not a day later.

The project took the workers to the outskirts of "Truck Tree City" were an available clearing looked to be filled by a sea of workers ready to begin work. Before the project even started a surprise visit from the nation's emperor had everyone on one knee. He unraveled the "Aerometal Project"* - an idea that had finally reached maturity - the building and creation of a massive airborne fortress to show might of an empire and provide heavy influence over the battle field. The lecture of his desired master piece was short as he noted that faster they completed the project the sooner they'd all be paid.

The first few weeks of labor had little progress as no one, not even the managers, had done such a project. It wasn't the managers brought help from the neighboring empire that work found its smooth pace and momentum shifted to their favor.

The Aerometal Project continued came closer to completion as the months came and gone, but the entire project was in jeopardy when a small army of bandits raided the area. The workers and the empire's army portal defended the vesicle. Though many lives on both ends were loss, the last remaining thieves retreated. With information of the project now exposed - from possibly hired gatherers of information - the workers worked double time.

The day of the fortress completion was its first test flight, though the circumstances were far from normal as the area became under attack. The opposing armies left on the ground were defenseless to the offensive might form the barrage of the fortress' offensive might, yet when fortress got infiltrated it defense only has strong as those who were protecting it. Knowledge in the fortress' skeleton eventually ended the bloodbath, though the time for celebration was short.

With the ship falling apart and falling from the skies the few survivors that remained abandoned ship. As they slow descended they were only able to watch the emperor's master piece explode and disintegrate on impact. The hard work to have the ships first flight was its last.

Sucking up through their developing PDSD, they spent two weeks surviving in the wilderness, searching for their city. They eventually made it the talked of their ordeal in a government meeting, were other survivors of the raid had emerged days before Ray's group.

All the workers were returned to their home, were Ray reunited with Kate. Even though the two have sent detailed mail back and forth Kate still remained shocked to see her lovers arm replaced with metal. But in the end she was glad to wrap her arms around him once again. "I see you've taken good care of my plant," he smiled.

One month had passed before a memorial has built at the cleared work area where the project began, representing those who -even though many had no battle experience- fought bravely to defend the empire's project.

Ray and the group that survived the wilderness trekked to find the area of impact where they were surprised to find a makeshift memorial, built from the debris of their project.

Creator's Comments-
My characters receive small changes over an extensive period of time, but Ray has undergone a large change in practically one day. He is also the biggest influence as to why I plan to go medieval with my entire cast.
Side Notes:

  • *The "Aerometal Project" was suppose to be like a small floating city fitted with artillery weaponry.
  • Before going all medieval Ray had a move advanced RTM (Model #104) with a different set of special attacks. Turret Drop was one of them. Disengaging his mechanical arm Ray only needed to push a button for it to transform into a small turret. To keep his robotic arm light he doesn't fit it up with ammo. So to compensate the turret sucks up material in the area and fires it off with compressed air (which was a special attack the RTM-104 also had, called: Vacuum Shot). It had a motion sensor radius that allowed the turret to lock on and fire upon a target within its range. Its advanced feature was preventing catastrophic destruction/failure. After taking a certain number of damage the turret would fall apart, in attempt to be fully functional with only a quick fix. All of this only had one requirement: locking all other special attack requiring the RMT-104.
  • Ray may have a lesser model, but Hand Extension still remains as one of the RTM's special attacks.
