It’s official. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is real and will be shown at Spike’s Video Game Awards this Saturday.

Announced by Geoff Keighley on his Twitter account, Entertainment Weekly has the story. Taking place in the desert, Nathan Drake will follow the footsteps of Sir Francis Drake and T.E. Lawrence. The same man of “Lawrence of Arabia” fame, Drake’s Deception will follow the history of the man during his British exploring days. It will feature incredible animation of organic elements, such as water, sand, and fire. It came out of an inspiration for Naughty Dog to push themselves as hard as possible. Why? Naughty Dog’s co-president Evan Wells said “[Because] We’re a bunch of nerds.”

The game will feature new innovation elements to the series, rather than a new skin on Among Thieves. Several new things, including enhanced backward climbing and the ability to fight multiple baddies at once, will be introduced to the series. Online elements will definitely play a major role in the new game, so cooperative and competitive multiplayer will be a major focus for the game. Wells said, “We want to be in the big boys, with Halo and Call of Duty.”

Along with a few concept art pictures, Naughty Dog released a quick teaser video ahead of their VGA reveal:

The pictures look impressive. And the improvements will be good. Like Among Thieves did after Drakes Fortune. The story seems interesting too, I hope to hear more about it. Uncharted 1 was an excellent game. 2 was even better. I hope 3 will be better than 2, but that might be hard to follow.

Wowser! That actually looks really good.

This is one of the reasons why I want to get out of debt and buy consoles. Because I really want to play Uncharted 1 and 2 and now that there is a third and it looks this good I am definitely sold.

Thank you Naughty Dog you never fail to please.

Eileanach is correct, Naughty Dog always pleases. I have no doubt that the third will be better because they somehow always top themselves. Crash Warped was the best, imo and from what I've seen/heard Jak 3 was the best too.
Welp there is a whole bunch of new info for the game available...

And here we have the official trailer! Just a quick mention... 14 seconds into the trailer at Naughty Dog's logo, if you turn up the sound you can hear the sound of wumpa fruit being collected. It's an obvious tribute to Crash Bandicoot.

I just watched the trailer. I liked it. Now I can't wait for it to be released. It looks really great. I now think, this could be better than Uncharted 2.

Excellent looking trailer! Roll on me getting out of debt so I can buy a PS3!!

I tried turning my volume up to hear for this noise but now I think I am going to need to find a Crash Bandicoot sound board to find the noise you mean as I seem to have forgotten. I think it's amazing that Naughty Dog still honour their roots - good for them.

The sound is very hidden and it's the sound of collecting multiple wumpa fruits not a single one. And yes, I have no doubt that they'll be outdoing Uncharted 2 with this one. The train in U2 was epic, I'm betting they used this plane on the third one.

Oh I heard it Metallix, when you said it was collecting multiple wumpa fruits I listened really carefully with my head phones and you're right. That's just made Naughty Dog all the more awesome.

I keep looking at this trailer and thinking "wow gaming has come a long way..." and more specifically naughty dog has grown so much from their humble Crash Bandicoot days.

Here's a developer's interview about U3. It shares some details about it, pretty good listen if you are interested in the franchise.

I'm happy that it's going back to exploring Sir Francis Drake. It also ties into Lawrence of Arabia too. Should be an excellent story.
