I recently got a Dreamcast a few month's ago and I love it! It's got a great selection of games, and there's some pretty cool Homebrew's out there as well! I would recommend all to get a Dreamcast, but games for it are pretty rare. |

well its not that they are rare its that they are sort of high priced. i would say dreamcast games are probably some of the easiest games to come by these days. homebrew is excellent on dreamcast except for snes. but some homebrew games that arent emulation are still really good. dreamcast still has a few games coming out here and there. just keep a good eye out for them. they are mostly neo geo remakes of scrolling shooters but those are some of the best.

I think that DreamCast was an amazing console for its time and now that it isn't in the market (i.e. competing with the Next Gen consoles) the home brew application feature on it is fantastic. I didn't realise that the SNES emulation wasn't all that good though Snow is it just glitchy or is there another problem I am unaware of? Hey now some of the Neo Geo games were amazing! I loved playing some of those games on my PC! |

oh yeah snes is terrible. most of the games are extremely slow and then you have some like starfox, starfox 2 and yoshis island that dont play at all due to the complexity of the super fx chip. im pretty sure kirbys dreamland 3 and super mario rpg wouldnt work period either. you can however turn the sound off and turn off all transparency (which you do need in a link to the past and im sure one of the final fantasy games, maybe 6) and it will run up a little bit more speed. mostly it can give one a headache. ive heard you can use pal games instead and they will run at normal speed. now ive played chrono trigger on it and honestly with the exception of a regular headache here and there, i saw no problems. some of the graphics like luminaire werent coming in rite. also, heres one game that came out 4 years ago. its a good one called last hope pink bullets. quite difficult. worth picking up. theres also the newest, sturmwind and dux. these arent remakes but definitely exciting. however quite on the difficult side. http://www.lasthope.ngdevteam.com/ |

Last Hope looks quite awesome, the graphics are stunning and it looks like it would really quite difficult as the game progresses. There is nothing wrong with difficult games, I mean I am sure dreamcast owners are a bit of a niche market so the makers of these games are trying to please the owners of the console and yet provide something with a bit of a challenge for others to enjoy. That does sound quite disappointing about the SNES games on the emulator, are you sure it isn't just that one emulator that is a bit crap or is it with any emulator for the SNES console? So unfortunate. |

its called dreamsnes. as far as i know there is another however works the exact same. this leads me to believe mega drive/neo geo wont work to speed either. but yes it is the emulator and is also condidered the best snes emulator dreamcast will ever see. thats not to say people arent working hard on fixing speed problems as well as transparency and graphics. they are still playable however its quite annoying. making a disc full of pal shouldnt be that big of a problem though, its just kind of tough to find on the web these days. some sites wont even carry pal. as far as gameboy, the best out there is gnuboy. if you want to play games like kirbys dreamland 2, pokemon blue/red/yellow and the super mario land games you will have to suck it up with a sort of tinted black and white which can get quite annoying. gbc on the other hand sometimes the music will stop at a sudden sound such as nidorinos call or the sound of a hit from an octorok but will come back. another problem with gbc, mainly gold/silver/crystal is you have to reset the time being that everytime you load up the game the time will be where you first started with and as one will know its a bit of a pain. with crystal, you cant even change the tiime so youll have to stick with the fact that you wont be able to do events unless you leave the system on which can be bad to your vmu. ive seen a lot of homebrew tools utilizing the vmu which is cool. new fan mini games such as one i know of is a chao adventure influenced thing with the sonic characters. also, i do enjoy quite these games due to the challenging difficulty. its what keeps me coming back and back. i believe independent releases should stay with the arcade style. now none of these games released are endorsed by sega in no shape or form. it mite be the great fan base behind it. im not sure. all i can say is this. the dreamcast may be dead in most eyes, sure, but is just beginning with something that we will never forget at least for dedicated fans like myself. i believe the dreamcast died too young and for the wrong reason but hey. |
