I don't know where I'm going.
|
Long story short, I have to write a 7-page persuasive paper expressing my opinion on video game and television violence causing similar aggressive and violent behavior in those who witness it in the media. I have a bunch of quotes, sources, and test results from a lot of experts, but it doesn't exactly fulfill the criteria I have set for my paper. What I want are opinions from those who actually play the games and watch the shows; you guys. Let's face it, we all play video games that aren't Sonic. I know there are COD, GTA, and Halo fanatics here. I just want your opinions so I can understand the reaction from the people who these studies go against. If you want some examples of studies agreeing with the connection, then I can give you some links. I just want to know you're opinions so I can write my kickass paper. |

Of course, the problem with parents choosing in their own homes is that parents tend to have poor judgment. They either think their child can handle it way before they really can, or they think games are so violent and horrible that they won't let their kid play a mature game even when at the age allowed in store policies. |

The Raskull King!

that is so true fwiss. I think my parents did a pretty good job... I've always been pretty mature for my age. So I can recall playing games like GTA Vice City when I was 12. But my little brother (who has always been pretty immature and pretty much the polar opposite of me.) never really got to play stuff like that until he was 15. I'm sure my parents never thought that he would go shoot up his school if he played GTA, but he just wasn't mature enough to handle the adult themes in games like that. So I think that is something that all parents need to take into mind, just because ESRB says its ok for your 13 year old to play a game (T for Teen) you might want to take a look at the game yourself, and decide if your child is at a mental/emotional maturity to where they can process the things that are happening in the game. Same goes for if a game is rated M for Mature and you have a 13 year old who is pretty advanced in their maturity and can handle those types of things just fine. The ESRB is a great place to start, but I feel like parents should be a little more involved. Which is nice to hear for the next generation, our (people who are on this forum lol) children will probably more under control as far as games go, because we will be playing the games too, giving us a chance to play the game and decide if our kids are at a point where they can be subjected to it. |
