Sandopolis Act 2
|
The valet drummed the backs of his metal-encased fingers against the inside of his arm, concerned because his boss seemed troubled. And with this boss, trouble often became wrath which he would bear. He straightened his black suit coat in an attempt to summon up the courage to speak with him. "You seem on edge, sir..." he volunteered. The valet's master glared at him with eyes of a deep luminous purple, sort of like a lit blacklight. "Austin, how many times must I--" he began wrathfully before realizing: "I forget. That is the extent of protocol in this place, if we're to maintain this charade... But yes, Austin. I'm indeed troubled. Father is concerned that the guest of honor may not appear this night. No, that isn't something you can help with, before you ask. Go, and mingle with the others, I haven't need of your services for a while," he said, seeming to deflate in his chair at the edge of the dance floor. "And I so looked forward to seeing him again," he added as the valet, Austin, hurried away. Austin wandered among the present guests, trying to make conversation with those not occupied with dancing to the classical piece that played or beginning to partake of the prepared banquet. There were so many different kinds of people present at this ball, in more senses than one. |

Off at the edge of the dance room stood a gray fox [he can be human if prefered] with red hair tied back in a piece of black ribbon and a white suit. It didn't quite suit him really, the suit being quite clean and stylish and everything about him saying, "I really wanted to wears jeans and T-shirt to this place". But still he stood there, rather still and alert, but trying to act casual. He wasn't too keen on being here at all, but he was and that was that. He was meant to get the main gist of what was going on and maybe make some new connections. Getting the gist, no problem. Connections while surrounded by the rich stuck up people who filled the room, not so easy for him. He sighed looking about for someone who seemed approachable, becoming more and more bored by the event as the seconds ticked by. |

Sandopolis Act 2

"A real drag, isn't it?" Austin asked the fox, leaning against the wall. "Word of advice, the wine's not a good vintage, stay away from it. I swear, my boss has no sense of taste. What would probably be first noticed were that tattoos on the side of his face and the back of his left hand. "Sometimes I hate my job..." |

Reji shrugged, "It's not too bad... but I'll note that, thanks for the tip."He replied glancing subtly over the person who'd come to speak to him. The person offered him a topic to start to talk to him with, "Why might that be?"He asked, referring to the man's apparent dislike for his occuppation. |

"It's not so much what I do as who I work for," Austin volunteered, making sure that his boss wasn't focused on him. "My boss, he's... fairly... unstable. So's the CEO, but he's a bit better concerning appearances than the guy I work under," he said, choosing his words carefully in case one of his bright-eyed coworkers decided to pass close and 'overhear.' Muttering under his breath, but unaware he was actually vocalizing the sentiment, he added, "Not to mention this whole shindig's a sham." He shook his head slightly. The song changed to a faster-paced tune dominated by the sounds of an acoustic guitar. |

Reji just nodded in agrement, those sorts existed in many bussinesses the world over. However, the last bit -which be barley even heard caught him off gaurd, "What? Your saying it's just for show... or something.. else?"Reji asked, trying to also keep his voice low, wondering why in the world they'd go to the effort of arranging some elborate, and why this guy was telling him all this information so willingly. |

Austin sighed, he couldn't believe he had said that out loud. "It's never straightforward with these... people," he said, hesitating before using the word 'people' as if he wasn't sure it was the right word to use. "They never do anything for the purpose it was originally meant to serve..." His voice trailed as one of the security people, again with backlit eyes, this time blue ones, approached. "I hope you aren't divulging proprietary information, Mr. Ryder?" he asked Austin. "No, of course not. Of course not, I know better." The valet's reply seemed to satisfy the guard, who turned and walked off to complete his circuit of the ballroom. Behind the guard's back, with poorly-concealed contempt, Austin spat, "Jackass." |

Reji looked seriously concerned. His life had been plotted against once before and he had been paranoid ever since. He didn't know what this lot would have against him, then he thought that the army he was in didn't have enough against him to try and assassinate him.. but apparently not. He just seemed to be trod on people's feet -part of the reason he never danced at these things. He glanced casually away as the secuirtity man came over. He smirked "Mr.Ryder's" reply, feeling similarly about the man but not wanting to actually say it. "...So then.. what sort of purpose is it to serve?"He asked once the man was out of hearing distance. |

Sandopolis Act 2

Austin closed his eyes, wondering what it would be safe to tell this guy right now, and what would get him killed. Finally, he came to a decision. "Execution," he said simply, quietly. "You want more, you get me out of here." Suddenly, a new group of 'partygoers' entered the ballroom, headed by a copper-haired fellow who seemed slightly out of place in his deep wine-red suit. The violet-eyed person, Austin's boss, across the room sat up and took interest in the newcomers, leaning forward and smirking, as an older, golden-eyed man in a black suit and gold trim he sat near stood up and gave a speech that Austin wasn't paying attention to. "And so much for the easy way," he said, moving towards the doors opposite the set the new entourage had come in. |

Reji frowned, not too eager to get involved with a stupid job like that with a guy he couldn't trust in a location he knew wasn't safe. His disinterest deepened seeing the group enter, they had a bad feel about them and clearly were of importance to go and start making a speech like that. He looked about the room, the bar catching his eye, "There's usually a way out of these places from the kitchens, right?"He asked quietly. He wasn't too keen on the task, but 'execution' was a pretty good teaser word, of course he'd need more information. He just hoped it wasn't some kind of joke. |

Sandopolis Act 2

"Got a few things to grab, first. Can't ditch them without tying up a few loose ends," Austin said back. "What I get for dealin' with fae. You have a-- wait, no, never mind, I have his lighter," he said. Pulling out a hotel key, he added, "Stuff I need is in my boss's hotel room. I'll fill you in when we're in the stairwell." As he wended his way around the periphery of the ballroom, he bumped the audio tech's platform, jostling connections and just plain screwing up the music mix for when they would resume the music. He headed for the large door that led to the utility/emergency stairwell and leaned back against the wall next to it. |

Reji followed grudgingly, so now he was also helping the guy get some stuff elsewhere? great, just great. This information better be blooming good. Once they reached the stairwell he took out two metal cards, flipping them quickly and descretly. They insantly changed form, into guns. He kept them close by, but slightly out of sight so as not to attract too much attention and stayed alert as he followed Ryder along the wall. |

Sandopolis Act 2

"Okay," Austin said after opening and closing the door into the stairwell behind them, and starting up the stairs. "First, to get me out of this bullshit, we need to find and you have to burn my employment contract. Why I don't burn it myself, I am physically and psychologically prohibited from going against the terms of the contract as they're written, and part of those terms is that I can't get within two arm-lengths of the contract itself. Second important thing in it is that I can't talk too detailed about a lot of their company's operations to outsiders," he explained. He tried to talk further, but it seemed he had lost his voice. He shook his head, then managed to cough out, "Later..." |

Reji followed him up the stairs, glancing behind and to other places occassionally and listening carefully to both what his company was saying and to his surroundings. "..hmm. Okay then."He agreed, deciding he'd see this plan through to the end, "Though one thing, I never asked your name." |

Sandopolis Act 2
|
"Austin Ryder. Yeah, I know, sounds kinda dumb, but it's my name. It's about the only thing right now I can really call 'mine,'" the valet said. Three floors up, two to go, and the door back on the ground floor thudded shut. Somebody was behind them. |
