i just wwant to be beautiful for this one month
Recently, it has come to my attention that many, many people, especially people who have been gone for very long periods of time, then to make their own return threads, totally ignoring the Re-Establish Your Presence Thread.

Perhaps this is a sign that people would rather not have a general Re-Establishing Thread, and would rather make their own.

Thoughts?
i'm actually really sorry bout this
unfashionably late as alwways

The Re-establishment thread is there to prevent clutter. Let's face it; all those 'I'm back' thread go basically like this:

"HEY GUYYYYS I'M BACK, I GOT KICKED OFF COMPUTER BECAUSE (generic reason) BUT THAT'S ALL SORTED NOW, KAYYY?"

"Welcome back, good to see ya, stay longer, YOU CAN NEVER LEAVE." x9001

And nothing of value is lost.

The people who ignore that thread and post their own topics are bein' daft. The majority of them are noobs, some of the rest are old members who probably weren't around when the thread was made (and thus don't know better) and some are (debateably) awesome enough to get away with it. Doesn't mean they SHOULD do it, mind you. ^_^;;

My point is, it's there for a reason. *shrug*

Check out my tumblr, Aggravated Anime-Adoring Australian, where I post all sorts of dumb screencaps and MS Paint edits and generally bitch and moan about stupid otaku shit.

I object to your claims
Plus, it makes sense to have a topic if you've been gone for months on end. But what if you've been gone for just a week or so and want to let people know? It would be stupid to make a topic for such a short time, but what'll you do?

I'd say keep it. We could have some rules about that within the Village itself, telling people not to create returning (and by defination leaving) topics.

Since when is one old member "many, many people?"

The Reestablish Your Presence Thread gets use, all the time. This is a non-issue. It stays, but it should be made clearer that such returns do not get their own topics.
Indeed, there is nothing more repulsive than these monsters that defy nature and are known by the name of witcher, as they are the offspring of foul sorcery and witchcraft. They are unscrupulous scoundrels without conscience and virtue, veritable creatures from hell capable only of taking lives. They have no place amongst decent and honest folk.

Quiet, please, it's snack time!
Keep it. It removes some of the clutter (not all of it), but it's better than not removing any clutter.

. . .

It isn't a bad thing - I like that it is there because I think that people who come back to the forum don't really get a lot of interesting replies when they don't give interesting topics to why they left etc.

It tidies up the board a little and isn't causing any problems. I say keep it.

We should keep the reestablishment thread for the reasons TUC and Blaire cited.

That said, members should have the option to make their own topics if they think it's worthwhile. While these threads may have little value, are they any less desirable than the other half a million "Hey guys... I'm new." topics in the welcome forum?

Keep it, but establish a limit where you cannot create a new topic there if you have over 50 posts, say. I'm fairly sure it's possible within the Zetaboards framework.

I say keep it, ya? I see it getting a decent amount of use and it's better than a duplicate topic from the returnee.

MoD's got a good idea though, if it can be done. If not; I'm sure we'll survive. |P

It can be done and I have no freaking idea why I haven't thought of that before. Fixed so that anything above 50 posts can note make a new thread in that forum. :)
