This is a highly debatable topic.
We seen videos of the Sonic & Knuckles 3D and Sonic Fan Remix did some ground breaking impact to the Sonic Fanbase and just the general view of Sonic games.
If us fans can come and think of the right Sonic games to our needs, should Sega consider us and let the fans be the new developers for Sonic games?

Or this new Sonic Team and Dimps?

Uh...
I don't think allowing fans to develop games for them would be such a good idea...
However, they do work with the fans. Remember that big delay for Sonic 4? That was caused by the entire game being leaked on one site, and everyone complaining and making suggestions. Dimps tried to follow those suggestions, resulting in a game with which the only problem is a borked physics engine.
I think they're going to be working with the fans a lot more from now on, because it's working well for everyone.

I think they should have a testing panel of Classic Sonic fans and Nu-Sonic fans. Then they could take suggestions from both sides and make an awesome game out of the middle ground.

I think a mainstream fan created game wouldn't be so bad. Take Sonic Megamix, one of the best fangames out there. That could easily be converted into a Sonic Advance 4/Rush 3, without any input from Dimps whatsoever.

I think story suggestions and such should not be out of the question, but development should be reserved for programmers and the like.
i'm actually really sorry bout this

I'd say let the Fans suggest some stuff, but let the actual developers do all the technical stuff like making the game.

Cy the fox is right, they should get in touch with the fans and even release more demo's of their games (not counting Sonic 4).
They don't have to listen our suggestions, but just have a place they can go have a look on what the fans have to say.
Hell with some of the creativity and originality some of the fans can come up with, if I were them I would deffinatly have a suggestions forum.

lets give the creator's of sonic fan remix full reign over their own sonic game, without any copyright issues or anything.

I guarantee the fan base would still hate it.

I still can't use this.

Creating easily-digestible fan service should never be a prerequisite for a paying job in the entertainment industry. The one-in-a-million fan game that actually gets finished does nothing significant towards moving the franchise forward in working out the problems associated with controlling a high-speed character in a 3D space. That's because most games tend to be hacks or copy-n-paste jobs of the original code of the classics; Big friggin' deal. Sure, you can easily bitch about Sega's 3D games all day, but when the majority of the fanbase can't even rig a 3D model properly, why would you seriously consider them capable for the job of working on a stressful, time-consuming, big-budget production of a 3D game on modern hardware?

No. Simply no. Until we can make 3D games that blow Colors out the water on the regular, I want the fanbase's paws off.

I don't want the fan base touching the games... They'd cause a train wreck. I have no problems with the people who want to join Sonic Team and have experience in certain aspects of game design, but just tossing the reigns to the fan base would be bad. >_>

Besides, SEGA tries to listen to feedback.

I object to your claims
How about...no.

Unless we have a few that actually have experiance in a few types of game development, I don't want to the fanbase making the games. After all, the majority of fan games are either;

Hacks with new characters, 3D games (which either are not far development, or the programmers are just lazy, because the characters look like they control horrible) with 64/Dreamcast-era graphics, and basically...not impressive. Just...not impressive.

Well it's not a frequent occurence we get these fan games but meh, it looks like it figured out how to control sonic on a 3D plane, All that's left is just hoping it isn't canceled :D

Now on the topic though, In my opinion let's not go willy-nilly on getting many fans into Sega to say what goes in; Let's choose fans who know what they are talking about based on the projects going on. For example, When Sonic 4 ep. 2 is announced, Classic Fans could be brought in to test the game and see what's wrong. (besides green ey-BAWWWWW) If we brought in both sides of the fanbase things won't go as well because Both sides will fight to see who is right about their vision of Sonic and his gameplay.

My opinion in a short version; Let's get fans, but not just any fans; Get fans who actually know what they are talking about to explain what needs to be fixed as well as what could be done for future releases (Sonic Fighting Game anyone?)

Oh yeah I remember that engine!
That was pretty awesome, but yeah Sonic 2 took the words from my mouth.
Also I wouldn't mind having the staff who created Sonic Megamix, but that is probably the best Sonic 2D remake I ever played!
Definately a Sonic 4 in my opinion.

But yeah, I believe Sega should consider the fan base who did ground breaking projects like these. Because to be honest, some of us have the perfect visualization for Sonic games.
