^ANOTHER DEAD TROLL^
|
I was being faithful and still downloaded Sonic 4 despite the screens and reviews. And lemme say this, Sonic 4 is nothing but a gimmick! The game is nothing but a mix of Sonic 1, 2 and 3 poorly combined with the physics of Sonic Rush (due to dimps) and on top of that, slapped with some Sonic Advance features. Nearly all Bandniks are recycled. ![]() Bubbles, the Sonic 3 Bandniks is seen multiple times along with crab meat and similar ones. Lemme say that in the entire trilogy series, none had recycled a bandnik and they were all original and faithful to their own sequels. Sonic 1 had crabmeat, Sonic 2 had coconuts, Sonic 3 had bubbles and so on. But hardly any new badniks and mostly "remastered" old bandniks, this is already a big gimmick which isn't impressive with the enemies. The levels are nothing but ripoffs or remastered versions. Splash Hill is obviously a remastered Green Hill Zone.. The worst Gimmick stage is the Casino Level. It is a mix of Sonic 2 Casino Level and Sonic Advance Casino level COMBINED! On top of that you have a bunch of the Sonic 3 Badnik's with bubbles in that stage. So it's a Sonic 2, 3 and Advance mixture. Lastly the Gear Zone or whatever it is. 100% rip off of Metropolis Zone of Sonic 2. I am sadly dissapointed of Sonic 4. How can they call this a sequel if this is nothing but gimmicks or remakes of stages??? This should've been named "Sonic Remastered" not Sonic 4. I just really hope they prove me wrong on these "episodes". Maybe on Episode 2 they will release tails. |

I can't believe I'm defending Sonic 4, but here goes... The reason the badniks are recycled is very clearly explained; Eggman wanted to reduce costs. And the classic Sonic games (and the new ones) have always had similar first levels- Green Hill Zone-Palmtree Panic-Emerald Hill-Angel Island were all green, lush levels. And both Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 have a Casino/Carnival Zone that looked amazingly similar. And all the games have had a mechanical Zone. And yes, Sonic 4 is a gimmick, but just as much as any other game. |

Well Sonic 4 is certainly the worst gimmick. Sonic 2 and 3 had minor gimmicks, but they stayed original and distinctive from each other. Sonic 4 nearly recycled BG's of Sonic Advance Casino and and fore background sprites of Sonic 2 Casino. If I am correct neither sequels recycled Stage Sprites from previous ones. The seriously could put more effort into Sonic 4. And to me I think they rushed this title just for the sake of excitement of the fan base when it was first leaked. No worries, once they read all the shatty reviews, Dimps will create the improved episode 2 with even more gimmicks. Edited by =SF SonicPro=, Oct 21 2010, 09:34 AM.

The point of episode 1 is to try to remind gamers of the classics. They flat out said they did that on purpose because they wanted to get people into the classic mood. I'm sure when episode 2 comes, it'll be all new stuff, but really, it's supposed to be a remaster of some sorts since it's been awhile since Sonic & Knuckles was released. They were never planning to do anything ground-breaking with this first episode because all they wanted to do with it was to get fans back into the mood of the classics. I really don't think the game should be hated just because of that. I enjoy the game overall, but yeah, I'm looking forward to improvements in episode 2. Controls felt stiff overall and I just don't have the motivation to try that final boss 100 times before passing it. |

... Here we go... Before I properly reply to your statement, I have a few things I'd like to say... Why couldn't this opinion have been added to the Sonic 4 topic? Second of all, I hope you know just how bland and common your current opinion is. Just saying. Now, on to my actual reply. I don't actually find Sonic 4 to be a 'ripoff' of any sort. I find it to be what the fans were wanting - a brand new 2D platformer with all the qualities of Sonic 1, 2 & 3. These enemies were what the fans had memories of facing, thus they were put in exactly as the retro fans wanted. Splash Hill I'll give you for being a nostalgia level, it was intended to look like a variation of Green Hill Zone. Casino Street was a very different zone from Casino Night; the cards gimmick was brand new in the game, as were the cannons. You also seem to have forgotten an act in the form of Lost Labyrinth zone. Is that a shameless ripoff to you too? And correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the bubbles, y'know, kinda vital for Sonic to use to survive underwater? Also, toward Mad Gear being a ripoff; I'm calling bull. Oh, and of course it's gimmicky. Sonic is supposed to be a game aimed at children, not 17-19 year old nostalgia fans. |

*sigh and eyeroll* Here we go... Yes, Sonic 4 takes elements from some of the older games. But am I the only one here who actually enjoyed that fact? First off, I'm gonna say that Sonic 4 feels nothing like Sonic Rush did. For me, Rush was a little more fast paced and about speed, while Sonic 4 is a tad slower and features more platforming. The Badniks are recycled, so what? The Egg Pawns are in Sonic Colours, you gonna complain about that too? I don't mind that the older baddies are back. Sure, brand new ones would have been nice, but seeing some of them with updated graphics is nice and takes me back to the games I loved. It's not like they're actually calling them new things and denying that they're the same ones from before. Sure, the stages are based heavily on old stages. But they also bring in brand new elements that keep them fresh. Ziplines, Card Riding, the Torch level, Steam Vents, all new things. And the layout is different too, so it's not like they just copypasta'd the old stages into this game. If you feel that this game is a ripoff, that's up to you. But given how much it cost you, really, I reckon that it's a fine game. It's not like you forked out $100 for it. |P |

Um. I think Sonic 4 is suppsoed to be a gimmick, for money, and plus, like Radar said, it is aimed towards little childen, not 17-19 year olds. So, you can see why it would be a gimmick, but I do not believe most little children have played the classics, so I'm guessing Sega wasn't thinking when they recycled a whole lot of game material from other Sonic games. They thought17-19 yr olds do not play sonic games, but they were wrong, so they recycled a whole bunch of matieral for money purposes and was hoping no one would notice. Well, too bad Sega. People noticed. |

offtopic: How can your brother get on your account? Ontopic: Yes, many games have gimmicks these days, that's how companies are. I believe some games do not have gimmicks, I KNOW some don't. I just don't feel like naming them. Also, how the heck did SMB get in this conversation? he was not in it before; therefore there was no need to bring Mario up. I object to your claims

Um, SEGA does know that there are older fans of the series. I mean look at Shadow the Hedgehog. That game has swearing in it, and it's storyline was a bit on the dark side. Even the Adventure games had stuff that would appeal to older fans, such as myself. Sonic 4 was mostly aimed for fans of the classics. Could they have put more original stuff in it? Of course, but that does not mean the game was just for little kids. And besides, don't the classics all have alot of the same elements themselves? I hear no one complaining that Sonic 1, 2, and 3 all have speed, loop-de-loops, most of the same power-ups, Robotnik/Eggman as a boss, ect, ect, ect, ect. Edited by HollyYoshi, Oct 21 2010, 11:29 AM.

@ hyper sonic dude: Ummmmmm. TMI much? Annnyways. I do agree Sonic 4 is a gimmick, but... what game is not? I mean some games these days don't have gimmicks...but...that's hardly any. @ Blaire: Well, I guess some games were aimed towards teens, yes... But I really don't know why people don't complain about Sonic 1, 2, or 3. I am guessing sega was possibly forced to recycle stuff during that time for the games being on such old systems.
