First of all, move this without hesitation should this be placed incorrectly. I realize this kind of topic belongs more in the hidden palace zone, but I sort of wanted input from everyone on this. So, I've seen this utilized on other forums, and it seemed to work well. I'm taking about badges. Little mini-icons that commemorate events that are under the users avatar, or on their profile page. Just little notices for "I was here when X happened" or "I helped out with X" or "I won X competition" and so on. Just little icons not more than 20 pixels across, just for commemoration sake. One for the RP Tournament, one for winning said tournament. One for birthdays, on for setting up a community contest, One for showing up to celebrate the broad's anniversary.Things like that. So, Any thoughts? Good Idea? Bad Idea? Improvements? Any type of feedback is welcome. |

I object to your claims

While it's a good idea in theory, there are some problems with it. First off, what about people who gain lots of badges? If we put them underneath someone's avatar, we may end up with a bit of clutter. Same thing with profile pages. The only other place we could put the icons is in signatures. Again, this could end up causing clutter. (Not that some sigs aren't cluttered already, but...) Of course, we could use an image randomizer site to randomize the images so only one would show up at a time...the image would just have to be updated every time someone gains a new icon... |

I've thought about that. That was mainly why I mentioned them being no more than 20 px. across. I've some up with two solutions: 1) We have a sort of "infini-dock" under the persons avatar. It would have all the badges in there, and the person would use their mouse to scroll through all the badges. 2) Should Zb not have this feature, or it be too hard to execute, then five random badges be shown under the persons avatar, while the remaining ones would all be visible on their profile page. Personally, I don't think clutter matters on the profile page, since there's really nothing to see but the person's statistics. |

i would be behind this idea, even if it was only in sigs, for fun. I think it's a cool idea. |

I've done this on a different site. But what they did is just have someone who was responsible, and preferably of a high rank, be sort of in charge of creating and moderating and administering the badges earned. They were small picture, like you said, and they were inserted into a banner and put in the person's signature. As they earned more, the banner was editted, more tiny pic-badges added, and the sig saved and updated. It was actually simple. The hardest part of this would be establishing what things are worth awarding and deciding who she be the one to officially administer them. IF, that is, we decided to go this route. All in all, with a little more plotting, this could turn out to be a FANTABULOUS idea. I vote: Yay! Thumbs up on this one. |

Well if they were only like 20 pixels, like he originally suggested, and if they were all put in a block or rectangular-shaped banner and put into the signature, then it wouldn't look cluttered, even if it was. They could just be side-by-side if not particularly mashed up. And sure, there would be a limit on how many badges could be on display at one time, but, looking at the size restrictions on the signature, that still allows for quite a few badges. |

I doubt clutter would be an issue at all, as long as the badges were small. I like the idea |

This isn't PSN or X Box Live. I don't think Zetaboards is that advanced to set features like the badges and "infi-dock" thing. Not even my forum board at forumotion can do that. The only thing to make that possible is by rank settings, by using custom ranks to display those badges, which means, Metallix or BlizShadow or whoever, has to reconstruct the rank system and individually apply those custom ranks for the people who earned them. Which in my opinion is too much work. So due to limitations, I do not support it because I know for a fact Zetaboards isn't that advanced to have a badge setting. And the "infi-dock" is just pushing it too. Edited by =SF SonicPro=, Oct 21 2010, 08:01 AM.

I think what they meant by "infini dock" was just a small scrollbox, in which the scrollbox has a defined size, but contents can be added to the box anytime. in which you would just continue to add badges (img codes) as you "earn" them. This isn't that complicated. it's a simple HTML code. I'm not sure if zetabords will allow you to use html directly under your avatar, but this code could EASILY be placed into a sig. The only thing is that members would have to be responsible for keeping their badges up to date, and many members have trouble implementing HTML without help... |

Im sure you do, you just don't know it. anytime you post a image on the forum, you are using HTML. it's just that when you click that little Image button, it automatically adds the [img] tags for you! really it's just helping you use HTML! pretty cool eh? same thing with posting clickable links, the "URL" button adds all the HTML you need. HTML isn't that hard once you really break it down, at least the basics of it aren't. Most of My HTML knowledge came from back when Myspace was popular, and you could use HTML to make your page look however you wanted. Back then I had no idea what I was getting into, but there are plenty of sites that give you all the answers you need

well you would make a scrollbox. like SO and inside of that scrollbox you would put images, by uploading them to something like Imageshack.us and using the pre-made html code it provides. |
