Launch Base Act 2 Posts: 315 Group: A Rank Guardian Member #10,104 Joined: June 27, 2009	First off, I'm not some fanboy making a thread to post about how much I like shadow, especially since knuckles is my favorite character. I'm just making this thread to ask what do you guys think of shadow and his standings in the sonic series. See, the Sega forum I was banned from (because "Jim Snooka" is a bad word and a user reported me because he wanted me gone, I lurked and say his post), many of the member there don't like shadow. If it's not because he came back from the grave(with no official way to know he actually died in the first place), then it's because he's bland or cliche, or he's emo(Which he's no where near), or he has a legion of over reactive fans. The one thing that gets me about a lot of the shadow hate, is why the hell is he catching heat for these reasons, but amy is getting a pass? Shadow has probably done more in games then even tails and knuckles, and he's hated, but amy hardly does nothing in the games or the stories but people are ok with her. Anyway, your thoughts on the guy? IMO, he's not my favorite character, but I see him as sonic's answer to Todd McFarlane's Spawn. Both characters main colors are black and red, they're both anti-heros, use guns even though they have their own powers, and they are both pretty bad ass in their own right. X)

Anyways. I can't stand Shadow. He's wangsty and a boring, cliched anti-hero with nothing better to do with his time than be godmodded and brag about it in-between randomly interspersed cries of ~~"STELLAAAAAAAA!"~~ "MARIAAAAAAAAAAA!". Oh, and he sucked in Sonic Battle and (and I know I'll cop flak for this, but) he was positively useless in Sonic Chronicles, even with the auto-skill chao equipped. Seeing as those are the only Sonic games I've played or expressed interest in playing outside of Heroes (which was boring) and the Advance series (which he wasn't even in), yeah, poor impression. In short, just everything that he does makes me want to punch him with a Boost Knuckle and drop him down an oubliette.

Probably because of the all Maria and Gerald story ( The doctor goes insane) . But I think that people don't like I'm because SEGA put i'm with guns. Thats what I think. He's not one of my favorite characters, but he's got his good points. (besides; Red and Black = best color combination out there!) And Amy has done stuff in the games. SA1? Heroes? Chronicles? Next Gen? Battle? Those ring any bells? Amy was a major character in at least the first three. And who was it that helped Shadow see what his promise to Maria really was? Oh, that's right; Amy! And she isn't getting a 'pass'. She has about as many haters as Shadow. And those that do like the character (myself included) like her for her personality. We think she's a good character, despite how often she does or does not appear in the games. Also, Amy at least has noticible weaknesses. Shadow, as TUC pointed out, treads on godmodded territories. I mean, come on! Ultimate Life form or not, I want to see at least one crippling flaw for the character. Besides, Amy has a hammer. A giant hammer. A giant hammer that she can pull out of nowhere. His story was actually the best. I like Shadow, he's 4th in my top ten, but his problem is that there's not much room left for him to progress as a character.

I still can't use this. Posts: 6,546 Group: Former Monarchs Member #6,722 Joined: March 16, 2008	We've seen on at least a couple of occasions that Shadow has a tendency to use up vast amounts of energy quickly, leaving him very vulnerable to damage; The most famous example of such nearly cost him his life. And the fact that the only idea Sega imported from Sonic X were his bracelets' ability to inhibit his output of energy only further justifies this as being fact. Mentally, it is Shadow's overwhelming objectivity that leaves him vulnerable to immoral behavior, manipulation, and ultimately social ostracization. Shadow is not as loyal as other characters; He is capable of murdering to achieve his ends as well as walking away from tragedy he can prevent. And it is with this knowledge that society has a habit of keeping his butt cryogenically frozen at the slightest hint of upset. Also, Shadow doesn't whine. Amy whines when Sonic leaves her side without her noticing. Cream whines when the television goes out. Shadow reminisces about genuine problems while attempting to rectify said problems or he simply clams up, the latter being something other cast members could take a note of. Ironically enough, Shadow hasn't reflected on anything about his past for half a decade, yet his detractors continue to bring it up as if it's remotely relevant to his current characterization. tl;dr-- Shadow has flaws and doesn't "whine." The fact that these keep being toted as valid criticisms of the character is nothing short of outstanding.

Not because I idolize his temperament, but rather the fact that he's serious and gets work done in a situation. Many of the other characters don't focus too hard, albeit for Knuckles or Sonic - on general plot situations. He's driven, put it that way. I guess the obvious cons I see in his design are the fact that he believes he's perfect and has that obsessive need to be better than anybody who competes. He's a little uppity, which is a character trait I've always reserved a little resentment for. Sometimes, he's also a little too serious when he can just simply act like he's at ease instead. Ultimate being? Ugh, That's more cliche on two legs than I want to shake a stick at. Terrible, HORRIBLE thing is above all else is the innumerate spin off fan characters based off of his physical and mental profile. I can't gain more respect for the character than I already have now at this point simply because of this... All in all, I'd rate Shadow as a character, 5/10. He's nothing extraordinary. Borderline mediocre, but still sufficient to stay a functional and passing character.

Shadow is like any other anti hero, he does his own thing, is on his own side and will work for anyone who deems fit to work with. I have to admit while Sonic may not be the perfec knight, Sonic barring his attitude has more a typical hero personality while Shadow is an anti hero conflicted personality. Shadow isn't Metal Sonic who is simply a robot but at the same time, his always serious and will make the unpopular decisions even if gets the job done.
