^ANOTHER DEAD TROLL^
|
Years ago, back in early 2007 and 2008, a lot of Sonic forums were active. Well what happen when you return back into the fandom 2-3 years later? A lot of the popular Sonic spots and forums I used to go to are either.. 1)Dead and Closed forever because the owner gave up. 2)It's once 500 member count activity had dropped to 100 or less. 3)When the forum started over, it failed because it had a weak start to reach to the point as it ever was before. 4)A lot of the members are gone and just inactive. I been to about 7 Sonic Forums I used to know go to and they are either those reasons listed. It's quite sad, Sonic Blast, The Sonic Factory and Sonic Online are the online remaining big active Sonic boards I know of. Sonic Rapid board which has over 8,838 members, isn't even much active, nor Sonic quality. Sonic Blast forums, so far is the best remaining Sonic forum out here that been out for years. But yeah, have anyone payed attention to the decline in Sonic forums on the net? My favorite forums, The Sonic Family, Sonic Speed Zone and Sonic Blue Stadium are all dead or inactive on the boards. These used to be top Sonic forums especially Sonic Family. Which reminds me of that brief forum war that happened 2 years ago

Eh, Sonic Stadium's forum, SSMB, is pretty active. I also know of this place called....I think it was Sonic Chaos Forums? I remember that being fairly active. Fans United For SatAM has been around since 2001, though after having gone through several servers and three owners, the earliest posts you can find with the lastest version go back no earlier than early 2008. Still pretty active. Edited by HollyYoshi, Sep 16 2010, 09:36 AM.

It's a common thing to occur. Forums seem to have a relatively bad reputation for a high mortality rate and tend to die off almost as quickly as they appear. The trick to getting a strong, successful one is having a LOT of friends and resources for advertising the forum in a way that will draw a crowd and keep them locked in. A lot of forum organizers are missing one thing or another which quickly leads to the forum essentially dying off in one way or another. |

I don't really pay a whole lot of attention to Sonic forums besides this and a couple others. But, there are a lot of factors that can influence forum activity, such as the friendliness of it's current members, what topics it has avaible, how well the Staff is at their jobs, and even the appearance of the forum itself. I've been to a Sonic forum where all the mods took leave for a couple of months, whereupon the forum spiraled into something not pretty, eventually making people leave. It's still around, but it's not at all what it used to be. |

Well some forums come and go. There are people out there who see successful Sonic forums and get giddy when they think they can do the same thing, but sometimes it falls apart and burns in front of their eyes. I will say it's a bit sad that some of the sites I liked are gone. There were a lot in my opinion back in 2001. Sonic Verse Team, The Sonic Foundation, Sonic HQ, CMCT, it goes on. Some of them came back after long hiatuses, but others are dead. |

SSMB and Sonic Blast are the only remaining active ones I know of with real activity... The thing is, the tiny forums have administrators that aren't willing to put in the effort to make it grow or keep the little activity going. I don't think SB has a problem because we're highly ranked on google, ZB Directory, and other search engines due to our size. |

Look at entry number 3 Basically, anyone who has just left a dead sonic forum and is looking for a new one, or has never been on a sonic forum but wants to is led straight to here by Google, search engines = POWAH!!! Just to confirm, no, i have no usefull input to this topic, just wanted to back-up Metallix's post with evidence Also, SSMB that metallix mentioned is seperated from us by a dead link, basically, people looking for a sonic forum (Presuming they ignore the link to SEGA's forums) would go straight here, followed by there, and pick one of the two. EDIT: Decided i'd make my post more usefull with: 1. More back-up: -We're fifth in the Zetaboards Gaming Directory -First if you search Sonic on ZB -And anyone trying to find info on the game "Sonic Blast" may find us in the proccess 2. A usefull contribution: I believe the reason there are less forums now is because we are taking all there members so to speak, most people (including me) prefer not to juggle multiple forums, and would rather go to an active one than a new one, so will go to here rather than new forums or smaller forums, so they die out, causeing there members to migrate here, meaning we're even bigger, so people are even more likely to come here rather than smaller forums, ect. ect. It happens with a lot of things, early on there are lots of small companys, but over time they merge and eventually you are left with only one or two major companys. Just a theory though. Trying to go with a theme this time
|
I'm one to witness this relativity short life span of a forum. Me and a bunch of Call of Duty fans created CallOfDuty4Central. Look at it now, Turned into a guide website without its Forum, this is because the site crashed. After that, we all migrated to Modern Warfare Global (MWG), this site lost members so fast because of the unreliable server, it would go down every day. Then i created a forum called [Name Withheld], that didnt go well at all. i had no idea how to run one and the website got deleted from the archives somehow. then 6 other people tryed to start up their own forums, and suffered the same fate as my forum. Then a good friend of mine created Call of Duty Access. He made it so that there were 6 people having equal abilities as him, and worked together to creat an awesome forum. With them promoting the site, we hope to have guides up for Call of Duty Black Ops so we can get more people on the forum who search for "Black Ops Guides". But this is the biggest I've seen. CoD4 Central had all 200 members active for 2 years, then 47 in MWG, and now 60 on Call of duty Access. GO METALLIX!

Yeah, the death of forums is nothing really new unfortunantly. Most of the places I've been to have died more or less. I've only really bothered to join up to Sonic forums with the occasional other forum here or there (Aussie-Nintendo being the main one up until I joined here). But yeah, my first forum was the Sonic Zone Forum, nice little place until it all went south and it collapsed on itself. I was relatively homeless from that point up until I joined A-N, but that was no place for Sonic talk really. Only other forum I joined that was Sonic related between the large batch I joined when I was young was a place called Sonic Turbine, which is just about deserted now. A handful of people remain but none of them really talk about Sonic and just angst it up in the general discussion area. Not nearly as friendly as I remembered. >_> And so that brings us to my current residence, Sonic Blast. A friend pointed me here and I must say, I'm glad they did. Sonic discussion is still alive here and it's a really friendly community. I've only been here about a month and I already spend more time here than A-N, which I've been a member of for nearly 3 years now. You guys are awesome. ![]() I can see myself enjoying this place for years to come I can, yup.

Sonic Blast is kept going because of continuity. Since the site's inception we grew at a decent rate, which is important because if a forum starts slow, owners may lose faith early. We've always had a solid group of organizers in our staff and we've been able to keep strength and communication in our staff to keep the site both running properly and clean. But the most important thing to our success has been the member base. We still have original/longtime members that have stuck with us and provide the "veteran" element that is always good in anything be it a forum, business, sports team.. e.t.c. while our good internet positioning has done a good job of directing new faces here at a good rate which keeps the scene fresh. Sure we've had our quirks as most things usually do but we are in a advantageous position for a forum of our kind. As long as that continuity continues to stick (and I see no reason for it not to as we have quite the head start over many other hopeful budding forums e.t.c.) I don't see why this website won't continue to exist for well into the future.. by internet standards anyway. Nope, no storm on the horizon in my view. |
