Just checked out Gamespots review.

-Long, boring platforming and driving sections
-Lacks impact
-Ugly visuals and jerky frame rates
-Short levels separated by long loading screens

Sounds like Sonic 06 all over again. ^_^

I wouldn't make those kind of assumptions/comparisons until you actually play the game... :P

After reading more into it, this doesn't look like my kind of game so I doubt I'll play it but gawd, 1UP's review of the game was horrible. Their review was more of a rant, 80% of it being on how unfunny it is while the rest was how bad multiplayer was and yet they gave it an 'F.' (Which means completely broken of course but they actually said they enjoyed some parts! I wouldn't give a game a score like that just because of bad humor although I still have no interest in playing this).

It ain't the only review site bashing down the King really.
Norwegian sources are giving it 1/6 and 2/6, and that's bad.

Now I have had the chance to actually play through a few stages and to be honest, I find it honestly lacking of the old games, but it's worth more then what the reviewers credit it for.
Just considering the 14 year development, the game just doesn't add up to what people may have expected. So in my opinion, there are better games out there in the same genre like Bulletstorm.

Can't share the review more then from my own perspective. I have but one thing to add, it's not meant to be taken seriously, kinda adds the arcade feeling to it really, and that's what most of them have probably struck it down upon.
I'm more like giving it an average score so far, and I must admit, regret I preordered it.

I pretty much agree with Little Kuribo's comment on this game, even if it was only a stab at Naruto the abridged movie.
Quoting myself for the win!
It appears his (and my) prediction was quite accurate as it turns out.

Well as of the moment I might be either a quarter or half way through the game. So far I'm lovin' every bit of it meaning I'd personally give this game a nine out of ten. As for the sold called top gaming websites they always; and I mean ALWAYS give bad reviews when its an actual good game. And the only reason most people think that as well is only because of someone elses opinion which is epic fail. So for this special occasion I have found something that clearly points out my message in four simple words.

To all those who talk trash for no good reasons simply just:

Ehh... No.

I'm gonna have to seriously disagree with you there. As much as I dislike them, review sites are entitled to their own opinion and that doesn't make either of yours right. It's great that you enjoy the game, but you don't have to hate the people that disagree. Are people stupid for trusting a websites review? Perhaps, but when a game is getting universally mediocre reviews, odds are that there's a reason for that.

On a somewhat different subject...

In case you can't tell, I don't like this game :P . One of the reasons people are bashing the game reviews is cause they are taking it "too seriously". I mean, the jokes are funny at times, but to be honest they're sometimes just immature or outdated. Now that leads us to the gameplay, which is clunky, not intuitive and just frustrating at tines. No amount of humor can fix that.

Blah, this rant isn't working and I'm tired, I'll finish this later.

Also, was that video really necessary? >_>

2K Games probably didn't want to pay everyone off to give their games high scores like Rockstar does so they have no obligation to rate it well.

Needless to say, reviews don't really matter anymore with all of their politics being dragged into it. It's no longer about reviewing a game rather than other factors. Although they never really mattered much anyway.

for me...I really don't care.
Duke Nukem will always be Duke Nukem to me.
They're just mad that they had to wait about 13 years just to witness it's birth. People are SO hard to please nowadays.
May Trogdor Burninate them to a crisp.

What is the difference between a duck?

Well it's just as I feared, DNF is a complete and utter flop of a bomb in my books.. the graphics are sub par, the game play is clunky, Duke isn't really all that funny (Kinda like Will Ferrell.. he has his moments from what I played).. and it really just doesn't flow all that well. It really hasn't come a long way from the piss spewing demo at PAX last year, and that is disappointing. :/

This game being rated low has nothing to do with 2K/Gearbox not "paying off" IGN and co. It's because it's a genuine honest to goodness eugh fest.

ABC Reviews

There's a sequence in "Duke Nukem Forever" (2K Games, for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, $59.99; PC, $49.99) that's destined to be remembered as one of the all-time low points in the history of video games.

It takes place in the Hive, a sort of alien incubator. The Hive is filled with naked human women who have been abducted and impregnated by the aliens. When Duke — the "hero" — accidentally kills one of the women, he makes an extremely tasteless joke.

Duke eventually stumbles upon two women. They beg for their lives. Duke responds with an F-word-based pun and watches as the two women explode.

I'm not a squeamish person, but there's a point at which even the strongest stomach says enough is enough. Unfortunately, I had to keep playing "Duke Nukem Forever" — and while it never again reaches that low, there's nothing that justifies that level of sadism and misogyny.

You may be familiar with the long, strange history of "DNF." It had been in development since the mid-1990s — the adolescent years of the first-person shooter, before "Halo" and "Call of Duty." Last year, it was finally rescued from the scrapheap by Gearbox Software, the studio behind 2009's superb role-playing shooter "Borderlands."

What Gearbox has assembled is a mishmash of poorly paced, archaically designed chunks of action. Along with the gunplay, "DNF" incorporates driving, running-and-jumping platform antics and even some rudimentary puzzle-solving, all of which would be welcome in a modern-day shooter if they were better executed. Instead, when you finally get to do something fun — like driving Duke's monster truck, the Mighty Foot — the game grinds to a halt by forcing you to stop and find gas.

The worst game issues are reserved for the excruciating boss battles. At the end of the Hive section, for example, you face off against the alien queen, who can only be taken down by high-powered ordnance. Every time you score a hit, though, she knocks you off your feet, so you have to hide from her while your "ego" (this game's equivalent of health points) recovers.

That's right: During one of the core battles in "DNF," the hero — established as the toughest, most fearless hero Earth has ever seen — spends most of the time hiding. And if Duke runs out of ego (which he will, often), you're subjected to a 30-second-plus loading screen. Pile up enough of those and you'll eventually decide the limited amount of "fun" you're having isn't worth the aggravation.

Survive the alien queen and you're treated to a pointless fetch quest in which you have to find three items in a strip club. Your reward? The creepiest lap dance ever.

All of which left me wondering: Who is Duke Nukem? The character was established in the '90s as a parody of two-fisted action heroes like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jean-Claude Van Damme. But during Duke's decade-and-a-half in limbo, those targets became toothless, and the gags here about contemporary stars like Christian Bale and Justin Timberlake fall flat.

So in 2011, Duke is just a parody of his former self, spouting jokes that are either lifeless or sickening. At one point, the president of the United States tells Duke he's "a relic from a different era." I wish he had stayed there. No stars out of four.
