OMFG!!!!!!!!
*Faints in Nostalgia*

Please tell me this is a real fan made game?!?

*Edit*
I want to cry right now, this is only a Adobe 3D animation mock up.
It's ashame Sega can't remaster the classic games like this.

They got Freddy. Poor Freddy.

It's really cool - but sadly it's not a game at all, just an animation. It's freaking beautiful though.

Someone... Make it real. I beg of you God.

Also, the creator of that video has serious skills. If someone discovers him/her, s/he's set for life.

I really want to do a petition for this for Sega to make, but I will doubt that will ever happen.

I still can't use this.

Even if Sega did it, it would not be of that caliber anyways. Because it's an animation, it's entirely pre-rendered, which is an impossibility for modern gaming consoles to compute in a timely manner. So yeah, unless you want your remakes to go at 3 frames/year, I wouldn't ask for this.

I wouldn't ask for it if it weren't, though; I don't like remakes. I find no significant value in playing the same games I can play on almost every console in the universe now just with prettier graphics. Remakes, however, shine best when significantly extra content is added to them to make them a more worthwhile purchase. But Sonic 4 couldn't even get away with a Homing Attack addition.

I suggest we admire this video from a distance-- because indeed, the actual environment is gorgeous-- and not make this in any way, shape, or form relevant to Sega's own output.

Quick! to the Starbug!
that is awsome
Once the monster has his fun
Take heed, it's not too late
Mistakes needn't haunt you forever
Though you have regret, you can't just forget
You alone decide your fate

Those graphics are not impressive at all... LittleBigPlanet has better graphics than that and the animations are just as smooth in real games. I don't think it would be too hard to push graphics like this on current consoles(barring Wii of course).

As awesome as that would be for an actual game, I can see it not happening.

Still, a truly awesome video. I'm totally in love with it. <3

For a single fan, this is actually quite impressive.

And LBP is a console game with the advantage of a larger budget, development time, and actual space than either Sonic 4 or this fan animation. Apples and oranges, Metallix. xP

Besides, I was talking specifically about the method in which this video was made; It's entirely pre-rendered footage essentially rotoscoped over old gameplay. However, the only thing that is usually pre-rendered on fully controlled games are cutscenes. If Sonic Team could get away with pre-rendered games, Unleashed would have the same level of detail as its opening, and in real time. That will not happen within any development studio anytime soon; It simply takes up too much processing power.

Ok so you were talking about something specific, you made it sound like making graphics that look like that would be hard to do in a game engine. I see what you are saying now, but still, graphics like this are easily capable and does not need to be pre-rendered to do so. Sonic Unleashed looked better and it actually had to render more things with a greater draw distance, not just a simple repeating background.
