Carnival Night Act 2 Posts: 210 Group: D Rank Guardian Member #11,027 Joined: May 4, 2010	ok i watched some of the cutscenes for sonic 06(i got bored) and saw eggman looking completely diffrent then any other game. i thought the look kinda made him look badass. now which do you guys like? the ususl eggman or 06 eggman?

But if you're a real old school Sonic fan, you would know him as Robotnik, which I really like more. You know, back in the ancient days in the 1990's

Old School Robotnik's also pretty rad (talking games as opposed to the cartoon). As for the Robotnik vs. Eggman thing, I was originally opposed to Eggman in the beginning but I've grown to love the name as much as Robotnik. I never quite understood why he adopted the name Eggman though, given that it was Sonic's nickname for him. I mean in Adventure he continued to refer to himself as Dr. Robotnik while Sonic and co. went with 'Eggman'. Oh well, one never can tell how the mind of a genius works.

Marios main boss, Bowser, had several name changes. First it was Koopa, then it was KING Koopa, then it was Bowser. Now I know Mario doesn't matter here but I don't see people whining about Bowsers name change. So why is the name change so important?

However they stuck with Bowser down here instead of changing it back (although some of the old cartoons may be another story). And why don't people whine about Bowser's name change? Cause Bowser is awesome. If he was Bowser and then they went with Koopa I reckon people may be a little sore about it. Unfortunantly I can't really add anymore to what I said earlier to make this post on topic, so appologies for that.

King Koopa....yeah...no. Same with our main Sonic baddie - 'Robotnik' sounds like someone to be feared. 'Eggman' sounds like a low-level Mega Man boss.

Or he'll turn you into an extremely fragile robot that looks as cute as he does! :D I will never understand the preference of making a character that is as ridiculous and cartoony and ultimately as non-frightening as Eggman into something that's "menacing," much less doing it by giving him a name that is ultimately as valuable as his more established and debated one. Other media notwithstanding, I don't even understand how this viewpoint managed to permeate so well during the classic era when the above was what he actually looked like versus the more expressive and capable-looking Eggman of today. He's so... silly; Why do you want to turn that into something fearsome? Why do villains have to have a cliche' scary persona to remain credible anyways? Even as fun as Eggman is, he's still done some rather noteworthy things in his neverending battle to establish Eggmanland. Heck, he has established Eggman, twice if Chronicles is to be considered. And really, has the more menacingly-named Bowser ever trapped Mario in a forcefield that stripped him of all his power and turned him into a feral beast before sending him careening towards a fatal fall to Earth? Is the more menacingly-named Bowser any less predictable than Eggman, or is he still dead set on kidnapping that same blasted princess? Of course not; Bowser's just as incapable, if not moreso, of besting his rival than Eggman is. Action trumps appearances and names. Overall, I like Eggman the way he is, name change included. He's a different and ultimately deeper kind of villain instead of the far more boring and default "grr I'm evil and vengeful" villains that this series has like Metal Sonic and Black Doom. Not that I even believe the name debate even matters much anymore, funnily enough. I mean, he's canonically both Eggman and Robotnik, remember? You think Sega's concession nearly a decade ago would've mattered.

Considering King Koopa is his Japanese name, maybe there's some die-hard "I only read subtitles" person out there... maybe I've just been blinded by how silly the Sonic fanbase can be. I digress. I think he looked cool in '06, but I prefer the fat man to be more on the fat egg-shaped looking side. And the cartoon versions were cool with his black and red eyes.
