Opinions and views on Sonic 4; How do you feel about it?

 Ok Sonic 4!
It's been well over geez, about a decade and a couple of years now.

In all honesty, I am happy about this but at the same time I'm not so thrilled and skeptical.

First of all, this is well too late to revive and Genesis sequel about 13-14 years later.
Don't get me wrong I had the Sega Genesis since I was 2 years old and played and grew up with the Trilogy. But no matter what, I do not think Sonic 4 will not be as great as the 3 parts. Why?

1)Tails and Knuckles is not playable. It's been officially announced by Sega that they wont be playable in Sonic 4. It seems very baclwards not to have the 2 prime characters that made up Sonic in this sequel.

2)Not developed by the main brains of the trilogy. Keep in mind that the original Sonic Team and the main brain Yuji Naka, is not behind this 4th sequal. Yuji Naka is the god and the creator of the Side scrollers of the genesis era.
Instead on a 4th sequal not directed by him but by new era Sonic Team which Sega replaced, is creating this. This means a shift of Gameplay style and design. The games Chronicles, Dark Knight and Unleashed were directed by this team.

I do not like the last 3 titles of Sonic. (yes I purposely did not mention All-Star racing because its not a pure Sonic game) The style was not Sonic like. I lost all respect when he was made into a knight unacceptable.

On the flipside, this game looks good as far as graphics go, but the gamestyle is too Sonic Advance. Nothing resembling the Genesis Gamestyle.

Those 2 things worry me that not even tails is on this and it is not in the hands of the creators of the first 3 series. I personally think they shouldve renamed this game something else, I dont consider this to be a true sequel to a Sonic.

Anyone who agrees or disagrees, please give an in depth answer and explain yourself.

 My thoughts? None of it matters if Sonic 4 is a good game. When it comes to vidja games, it really is that simple: If the game is good, you can ignore all else.

 I hope they have easy special stages to get emeralds in sonic 4... the Xbox isn't as durable as the Megadrive Genesis Megadrive

(Explanation: I found the Sonic 1 special stages impossibly difficult and would occasionally get very frustrated and throw my Megadrive into the wall in my rage, but, since all older consoles where made out of a Thorium and Vespene Alloy, it survived, the Xbox 360 however is made out of Jelly, and cannot survive a slight breeze)

You would throw it?! LOL, the most I'd do is throw the controller and that was very rare. Those 360 controllers feel cheap too, I wouldn't doubt they'd break with a hard jolt unlike the Genesis controllers.

To get back on topic, I would like more difficult special stages but not frustratingly hard. I wouldn't want it to be so easy that there is no sense of accomplishment at the end. lol

 Well, coming from a sonic fan since 4 years of age and now 21, I think sonic 4 is looking pretty good at being like the old titles but still in some way being new, even though most fans have been bitching about those new aspects since the trailer, green eyes and homing attack being one of them. As Blizshadow stated, I'm neutral on the game even existing, but it's target audience is more then ever being a bunch of d***s about it, in lack of a better term. The latest thing for them to bash sonic 4 is the graphics. Fans are actually dissing the pre-render graphics just because they're cheap, when there's nothing even wrong with them, and in fact, I think it really fits the game. The even crazier thing, they praise this fan project over graphics and gameplay:

Now, I must admit, the graphics are tight as hell, better than sonic 4's even, but I wouldn't use that to discredit the game, since, like I said, there's really nothing wrong with the graphics. Also, another argument has come up: Despite the fans who wanted this game to be 16-bit, so sonic 4 is bashed for being new looking, other fans have said this game looks like it was done 10 years ago on sega saturn, so now it's being bashed for being too old looking.

On a second note, the gameplay.... every time this video is brought up, it "SONIC 4 SHOULD PLAY LIKE THIS VIDEO WITH THE BETTER PHYSICS". Ok, I don't know about yall, but how the hell do you compare a video to a game when it comes to gameplay mechanics, since the video doesn't have any, since, you know, it's a damn video.

 I'm generally not interested in it that much. The main reason for this is the fact that it's supposed to play like the classics.

Now, in the reverse of what most people would say, the next part is NOT "However, it doesn't and it gets rid of a lot of the oh so precious nuances of the classics, so it's inferior". I honestly could not give a damn about the nuances. In fact, no nuances in the world could save them from the fact I got bored with the classics. If it plays like the classics, it will be monotonous like the rest of the sidescrollers became (save Sonic 2 and KC).

...I'm going to be ripped to pieces for this.

 Actually Anton, I can respect what your saying, and I feel you on what you said, because 1. I'm tired of the classics to. I'm not saying it to demonize them, but I beat them so many times that I have to download hacks just to keep me playing more then 2 stages(that's if they don't glitch). 2. I don't agree with the notion that sonic has to regress just to be good, and I feel the classic games have been over-glorified since the announcement of sonic 4 anyway. Everytime there's a discussion on the sega forums, or a rant against S4 on youtube, it's about how S4 is not like the classics, it doesn't play like the classics, it doesn't look like the classics, or it's not classics enough, and how the homing attack ruins precision platforming when we're playing a game with speed based gimmicks in the first place. :???:

About the game itself, I'm not looking towards it being the second coming of what sonic used to be, in fact, I'd rather have some new stuff in this game, the homing attack, for me, counts, and the air dash is good to, but I'd like to see a few more new things. However, this is only EP1, so I may have to wait.

 My thoughts on sonic 4? Well I play sonic 1-3 constantly. I really have a bad feeling about sonic 4 its got the DS look to it. Im not too familiar with the new sonic either. I played unleashed and was extremely disgusted with it that I refuse to play knights or secret rings (yeah call me stubborn). Ill stick to the good old sonic. Weather this game is good or bad it wont bother me too much as long as they don't have this one somehow ruin Sonic 1,2,3.
