70s and 80s Pop and R&B tends to remind me a lot of Sonic 3's music, mostly because of the synthesizer instruments and melodies that were popular at the time. An easy example is Evelyn Champagne King's "I'm In Love." |

I gotta say, that song makes me think of sonic CD, maybe fitting stardust speedway in the past. I tend to lean to Electronica, breakbeats, and classic rock. I've been thinking of starting this same thread! I'm an independent musician(Multi-instrumentalist/singer/songwriter/producer; including drums,guitar,bass,keys,trumpet,and electronica, as well as other off the wall instruments like harmonica and various exotic percussion) I've been in the industry seriously for 7 years now. I've played on 5 different record albums, was in a national touring act for 2 years. And currently play drums in a Folk/Indie Rock band and am working on a solo project with my wife on the side. So music is kinda my thing. I think that sonic characters each kinda have their own music styles that fit them.. Sonic-Rock Tails-Pop Rock Knuckles-Rap Rock Amy- Girl Rock Eggman- Techno/Electronica Shadow- Heavy Rock/Electronica that kinda scratches the surface. But thats how I feel the characters have always been portrayed. Music used to be a much larger part of the Sonic series then it is now, (SA2 comes to mind) but I feel like SEGA has neglected this part of the Sonic experience as of late. I mean nearly anytime you see AMY on a screen "My Sweet Passion" plays. and that came out for the 1st Adventure game! I'd like to see music being a closer part of Sonic again. But maybe have them work more on getting music composed that doesn't necessarily describe the character in the lyrics (Unknown M.E. "Knuckles Theme" from SA1) but just have the actual MUSIC describe the character. It really sets the mood for the character. |

i completely agree with you dude. the sonic music isnt what it used to be. sure sonic and the black knight brought back crush 40 and the rock genre for sonic which i think is quite fitting for the modern sonic era. but after that they changed it to unleasheds music. which endless possibilitys was a goid song but the orchestra type of music didnt really fit sonic in my opinion. and now colors is gonna have more of an upbeat sound to it. which isnt bad but i miss crush 40... a Sonic game should have all types of music just like SA2. |

You listed "Made you look"!? Wow, I must've found one of the few sonic fans other than me who actually likes rap. Anyway, the instrumental would have been a good beat for wild canyon in Sonic adventure 2. The world is Yours(new link because yours is gone now) would have been good for death chamber or pumpkin hill, and one mic would've been good for aquatic mine. Speaking of rap, OX from the Madworld OST would work for a sonic stage BGM, and for shadow. Sick YG would have made a good Meteor Heard track. X) Edited by DJGameFreakTheIguana, Aug 9 2010, 06:29 PM.

Personally, despite SA2, I think heavy rock or just plain rock in general would fit Knuckles more than rap rock. I don't really know why, but when I think of a theme for Knux, I keep thinking of something along the lines of Pride and Glory. |
