Sandopolis Act 2
|
"And you, 'friend,' are an *******. I would put a stop to the attitude before we meet with Danny, were I you." Judah mumbled something about stereotypes, and led Nicholas out back towards a small(-ish) patch of asphalt, into another building and down a flight of stairs. A little more walking and a few more corners, and Darius led TRG into a large, tiled room, with several tables scattered about. A gray-haired man was busy playing with some children when he noticed the group, followed by Judah and Nicholas, enter. Then he spoke, far faster than one would expect for a man his age. "Uh-huh. Hey there, call me Danny, everyone here does. Sorry for the less-than-warm welcome, but between everything out there and making things in here work out smoothly; well, you'd get the idea. So you guys are mercs, huh? Sorry we don't have much to pay you guys with, so room-and-board's going to have to do. Really the best we can do under these conditions." The man stopped to take a breath, then continued. "So yeah. We've been trying to get those flood doors open, but it seems we don't have enough juice coming through the cables to actually do it and keep the lights on. If you guys could help us out by checking the old power plant a little to the, ah, north of the complex, we might be able to get enough power to open them." Breath, then Darius cut in. "In one of the blocked-off wings, there's an old mainframe room which we might be able to get information from. Also might be able to check on what's left of the other hotspots in the marshes, maybe find the 'bastards' you three are after somewhere out here," Darius said. Danny nodded. "I see. You should probably go with them, Darius. You've been out that far. So how's it sound?" |

They are unscrupulous scoundrels without conscience and virtue, veritable creatures from hell capable only of taking lives. They have no place amongst decent and honest folk. | |

The three exchanged glances. "...We'd prefer it if you could scrounge up some loose Caps in addition to the Room-and-Board. We're a strictly 'for profit' organization, you see." Richard said casually. "You don't necessarily need to pay us a LOT, just whatever you can dig up." Ignatio added kindly. "Aside from that, it sounds easy enough, and we're already armed and ready for some action. Plus, like...Darius, was it?...said, we might find the guys we're hunting out here. So it sounds like an acceptable job." Rich finished. |

Nicholas thought a moment. He wasn't really one to go in guns blazing like he presumed the other men in the room were. Although this didn't seem like a combat heavy job. He also needed somewhere to stay while he looked for more profitable work. "Hmm... I'll do it if you throw in a bottle of whiskey." said Nicholas finally, "It's been too long since I've had a drink. If you can do that I suppose I'm in." |

Danny nodded. "We'll see what we can find in the meantime. No guarantees on that whiskey, though. All right, good luck guys." It took a few minutes, but then they were heading out the northern end of the tunnel complex, where Darius had brought TRG in. They emerged into a driving storm, complete with falling hail. "The storm should keep the gators in their ditches." The hail wasn't anything serious, but it hitting TRG's suits of powered armor worked up a bit of a din. Not even five minutes after they came out, they came across a broken road bridge over a set of narrow-graded railroad tracks. Darius picked and weaved through the debris and old wreckage, nimbly jumping from the top of an old car across a gap in the bridge to the other side. "Alright, keep it coming!" Darius shouted, beckoning the others further, unaware of the feral Ghoul loping up behind him. |

Swiftly noticing the Feral Ghoul, Ignatio let out a cry of warning. "WATCH OUT!" He shouted, raising his Sniper Rifle. With a CRACK, he let off a round that barely missed the Ghouls head, instead embedding itself at the base of the neck. The Ghoul let out a loud hiss of pain(Or whatever you call that 'cry' of theirs), turning to charge its attackers. As it did, Ignatio swapped out his sniper rifle for his Infiltrator, and Richard raised his Chinese Assault Rifle. The two took aim and pumped the mutant full of lead, the Ghoul twitching and jerking as it was turned to swiss cheese by the hail of bullets. Letting out a final growl, it took another step forward, then tripped, falling face first on the ground. Richard raised an armored foot and stomped down hard on the Ghoul's neck. There was a crack of bone as its neck snapped like a twig, the Ghoul twitched once, and then died. |

Nicholas continued walking behind Darius, unfazed by the carnage happening next to him. He sighed to himself. It seemed that these men loved to make a show of killing one little ghoul. Still, he wouldn't have to worry much about getting his hands dirty with men like these around. Nicholas realized that he didn't even know there names. He turned to address the one who appeared to be the leader of the mercenaries. "I don't think we've been properly introduced," said Nicholas calmly, "My name is Nicholas Brooks. What should I call you?" |

Richard eyed the man who approached him warily. "Richard." He replied. "Richard Saber. Leader of this outfit of Mercs." "I'm Ignatio!" Lykor piped up. "'Sup." "...Yeah." Richard growled, annoyed by Ignatio's friendliness, "And the other guy is Virgil." Predictably, Virgil just nodded. "We're The Ravaging Plague. And if you want to stay alive, you'll stay on our good side. Got it?" Saber said. |
