All right everyone, I've noticed that this place has turned into a sea of bitterness and bickering about the modern era of Sonic. I'm going to pick that concept up and turn it on its head. Let's talk about the positive aspects of modern Sonic.

By modern Sonic, I am classifying it as Sonic Adventure and onwards. No flaming, flame-baiting, mockery or such will be permitted.

With the latest games, Sega has tried to expand and change the formula, which frankly has been aging. It's better than pumping out the same sequel after sequel.

I have very little problems with the modern Sonic. Sure, he's had a few hiccups along the way, but nothing that would ruin the series.

The Advance and DS games have stayed decently true to the classic formula, and while some may find this stale, I still find it refreshing.

And of course as the new age comes out, younger fans get attached to it. Some go back to see what the classics were like.

I still can't use this.

I appreciate quite a few things about the modern era of Sonic:

I like the characters' sleeker designs as it gives them a more reasonably atheletic look. It also makes them look unique, and not merely an inspiration from a classic Disney style; Sonic characters are now undoubtedly Sonic.

I like the idea that Sonic's speed should mainly be a byproduct of his own talents and not of the environment not only because it makes sense, but the sensation of controlling or using his speed to its fullest potential is more immediately rewarding.

I like the higher emphasis on narrative as it provides more interesting looks into the characters than otherwise, and has awarded the whole fanbase some guilty pleasure. xP

I've liked the realism aspect of their respective games, spefically SA2 and Unleashed, because it grounds the conflict a little more, and in the case of the latter game, it provided some really nice visuals, culture, and character to the world.

And I like the music; Across the new games, it's a menagerie of different artists, styles, genres, and tones, something which provides a good deal of listening from me as well as a unique aesthetic quality to the franchise as a whole.

I think that the modern Sonic games are OK. Now, I haven't played them all yet, but I will one day. Anyways, I like the modern Sonic games.

I also like the thematics that're brought about. Adapting Sonic to the likes of the tales of King Arthur for instance. Pure gold.

Would it be weird to say I like the new-age 3D sonic more than the old version?

Sure, the originals is great and all, but It's the 3D games that I loved and what got me into it. I like the 3-D environment more than the 2-D as it adds so much more to explore, the 2D was limited to secret passages that were hard to find and un-rewarding when found. I like the new age sonic a lot, and find it a little strange that so many people dislike sonic's games because I happen to like most of them.

In fact I think the only bad egg out of the bunch was Sonic '06 and even then it was a good attempt.

All the Sonic games on the GBA have awesome music.

...

Midi haters, SHUSH. XD

In any case, if anyone actually bothered to show the GBA a bit more love on OC Remix, I think some damn good remixes could come out of Sonic Advance 3 in particular.

Music aside, Sonic Battle was genius and of course Sonic Chronicles for the DS was pretty much the main reason I got a DS in the first place (and now it looks like I'll have to get the 3DS ust to get the sequel... :( Damnit ).
