I still can't use this.

Due to a really retarded mistake I made while spring cleaning coupled with extremely iffy coding of Zetaboard's forum functions, the original Sonic 4 topic is now permanently gone. Let the facepalms rain down upon me while I get on with the task of trying to restore the FAQ.

But hey, maybe this is a blessing in disguise; The original topic was a disaster anyways and it gives us the chance to start fresh, and right on time for E3 no less! And to keep this topic less argumentative than the last, I point you to the message I posted at the bottom of the Colors FAQ. No more bullcrap, mm'kay kids? Keep on topic and stop complaining about Sega's shenanigans. It's all very taxing on me.

THE GAME

Gameplay: Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 is the heralded direct sequel to the original Sonic The Hedgehog trilogy; Fittingly, the game promises the return of pinball physics, branching level design, and a more simplistic and slower platforming experience. Sonic's repertoire from titles such as Rush and Unleashed is stripped down to his original moveset with the exception of the Homing Attack. Other classic staples return including entire level motifs, enemies, bosses, the Sonic 1 Special Stage, and the Small Animals, the use of bright aesthetics, and a soundtrack with a distinct 16-bit sound and inspiration done by the original Sonic 3 composer.

Locations

  • Splash Hill Zone: A beautiful coastal area filled with rolling hills and an everlasting feeling of summer, Splash Hill Zone is the embodiment of an adventurous paradise. As Sonic races through the smooth slopes and crisp rivers, he will also witness a spectacular sunset view from the top of the hills.
  • Lost Labyrinth: Eggman began his latest research in the remains of this labyrinth. Mysterious traps including giant boulders, moving walls, and endless waterways deter any curious explorers. If Sonic gets in over his head, make sure to look for air bubbles nearby!
  • Casino Street Zone: A bright and busy casino-inspired theme park, where shining neon lights fill the streets. Casino Street Zone is bustling with elaborate pinball areas and powerful cannons, so time your movement well to guarantee your chance of survival. If luck is on your side, why not explore for a moment and try your hand at the slots?
  • Mad Gear Zone
  • E.G.G Station Zone

Cast:

  • Sonic The Hedgehog: Our legendary hero returns! With the Death Egg finally destroyed and Angel Island back in the sky, Sonic decides it's time to take a break and heads off to explore a new territory on his own. However, unbeknownst to Sonic, Eggman has also survived their last encounter and has begun taking measures to rid himself of our hero. Armed with his signature Speed, super Spin Dash, and powerful Homing Attack, Sonic is ready for an all-new adventure!
  • Dr. Eggman: After losing the Master Emerald during his last encounter with Sonic, Eggman regroups with a new objective; to revisit and refine the best of his creations in an effort to finally rid himself of Sonic!

Don't forget iPhone footage. Man, going through loops on that version is a bit too disorienting--
Geeze... I don't know what Apple was thinking when they decided to make the ipod/iphone a gaming device, it absolutely SUCKS for games and I've tried it. Sonic 4 on iPhone looks pretty horrible too.

That doesn't change the fact that its called Sonic 4 and NOT Rush. I know some will call games by their own name, but it often doesn't make sense to call a game what its not. If its rush, it would have the ability to boost like in the Rush series, you can't do tricks to get boost points, and one it has nothing to do with the Rush series and takes place before it even happened, or anything of which modern Sonic has done.
I don't care about any of those things and I still enjoyed Rush. For the parts that mattered to me, Sonic 4 will be similar.

But like I said, it doesn't matter. It's still a different game, although similar. There's no point for me to argue against it in a 2D sense. That's not the problem I have with the game.

To me, the 2D aspect is similar. I don't care about the differences; they're both 2D (except bosses). This is what matters.

We can't fully determine whether the game is "pinball physics" and more "vertical" until it comes out. But all I know is that even in the originals you travel side to side (with a bit of vertical movement), like in Rush. Yet, moving side to side is mandatory in both.

But the five things you mentioned are not the problems. Yet, I still find the games similar. Both similar by 2D in my book (one is just modernized while the other is in the past). Basically Rush is the newer version of original Sonic.

But I won't get too into it.

Okay... I'm done debating this game anyway. No matter what, I'm going to play it and try it out. So if I'm wrong about it being similar to Rush in the 2D aspects, I'll say it. I know it's a game based off classics and not modern 2D games, but the point I'm trying to stress is that those classics branched into the modern Rush series as the years went by.

Nonetheless, this is a different game and I never should have called it Rush 3, no matter the similarity. I'll play this game and check it out.

Anynoo, Sonic 3 returns to On The Spot. Aside from another interview, we get a live showing of Jun Senoue playing Splash Hill.

Well it depends on the quality of the game and how innovative it is. Most of the Sonic games are just meh on the iPod/iPhone. The better games are usually ones taking advantage of the Accelerometer. But that's off-topic, so...

I'm glad the game leaked on the internet. Sega would have left in the state it is, just like '06 (even though that was delayed). Luckily Sonic 4 was at least in a state of being fixable, where something like '06 was just beyond saving.

Considering the source of the leak, PartnerNet (and the whole idea it wasn't SEGA's fault the leaks got out to begin with), a service intended to beta test downloadable game content in progress, to say they' would have left it in the state it was in is a rather shortsighted accusation. Sure, there may have been some errors they could've missed (no developer's perfect with fixing every single flaw), but to say they'd just completely leave it as it is unfair.

Eh, I've barely kept track of Sonic 4, but it does look like it's shaping up to be a not-too-bad 2D Sonic. Looking foward to playing it when it does eventually arrive.

Christmas is back again

Well after I've looked into AJ's little interview with one of the creators behind Sonic 4. A few screen's about how the game-play looks. Of course that should also be available at the available links on the first page.

Just thought I'd share this link for anyone who's interested.
Angry Joe, talks about Sonic 4 Chapters
Well I was actually a bit confused what he meant. I mean will there be more then Sonic 4, will the 2D classical style continue?

Sorry but I'm not much of a reader when it comes to long consistent posts that often ends in complaining.

Just adding different ways to control a game does not make a game innovative. Anyway I'm planning on buying this game. :) I just hope they eventually compile all of the episodes onto a disc.

I meant that they use the accelerometer in innovative ways, not that they just replace touch controls.

Did they ever say at one point how many episodes were planned? I wanna say I heard four somewhere. If so, then that would mean that four episodes with four zones each compiled together would make a 16 zone, 32 act Sonic game! O_O

Actually, to solve the whole controversy theory, Sega could have just made it so the person who's playing the game can either choose modern mode or classic mode (change only Sonic and Eggman). That would have solved the whole problem. Probably would have taken a lot more time to do this though...

Yes, Sega's going to take the time to please one person to allow you play as a black eyed Sonic and Eggman with his old jacket or something along with new Sonic and Eggman. /sarcasm

Ray, like I said, there is no controversy. You're the only one making a big deal out of this. Nobody else is. Thus it's not a controversy.

Look up Sonic 4 green eyes on google and see if I'm the only one making a big deal at it.

Maybe at this forum I am, but overall, no. Others have had a problem with it as well. I'm just one who doesn't mind speaking out about it.

Controversy or not, it's a problem at hand. To me, it's a controversy otherwise you wouldn't be "debating" with me about it.

Let me just record that I posted a way to fix the problem. You were the one who initiated the argument this time. I gave a logical way to fix it and you jump on my case. This is why I respond.
