![]() OVERVIEW Name: Sonic Colors (alt. Sonic Colours) Developers: Sonic Team, Dimps (co-dev. DS version) Publisher: SEGA Genre: Action-Adventure/Platforming Platforms: Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS Input: Wii: Wii Remote & Nunchuk, Classic controller, GameCube controller; DS: Stylus Players: 1-2 Rating: ESRB: E (Cartoon violence); PEGI: 3 Release Dates: NA: November 16, 2010; EU: November 12, 2010 Official Websites: US-UK-JPN ![]() THE GAME Gameplay: Sonic Colors is the latest action title in the franchise that sees Sonic racing around Dr. Eggman's planetary themeparks to rescue an alien species called Wisps which is being used to power the parks. In return for rescue, these Wisps will allow Sonic to be privy to their special abilities, or "Color Powers." The Wii version of Colors accurately replicates the more traditional Daytime stages of Sonic Unleashed on the Xbox 360, whilst the DS version will be replicating the Sonic Rush series. Traversing the levels is given a layer of depth in the form of the Wisps who act as a general power-up system, allowing Sonic to move, attack, and explore the scenery in various ways. Completing the main campaign is still as independent of this system as possible, and only by aiming for full completion will significant use of the Wisps be necessary. Sonic Team purports a solid focus on the series' strengths. This includes the cultivation of a single style of gameplay and whimsical locations that take cues from park attractions like confectionery centers and tropical resorts; The storyline will also follow a similarly light-hearted and goofy tone, and music will replace the series' standard guitar riffs for more upbeat, jazzy sounds. Locations:
Characters: Wisps: Wisps are found inside of regenerative capsules throughout each level. Collecting a particular color of Wisp allows Sonic to take advantage of that alien's "Color Power," unique attacks and movements that are limited by a gauge. There are ten Wisps across both versions:
Storyline: "The diabolical Dr. Eggman has hatched another plan for world domination! He has built an amazing interstellar amusement park, floating in space around Sonic's home planet, bursting with incredible rides and attractions. However, all is not as it seems as Dr. Eggman has abducted an alien race called Wisps and is harnessing their colorful energy to fuel a sinister plot. However, before Dr. Eggman completes his evil plans, Sonic discovers his mysterious theme park in space. When he arrives, Sonic finds he is also able to use these alien powers and is ready to help! Sonic will need all his speed and skill as he faces this test, but, empowered by the alien energy, it's a test he'll pass with flying colors!" --Sega Mini Site Detailed Synopsis Credits:
Metacritic Score: Wii: 7.7/10
DS: 7.9/10

![]() ADMINISTRATIVE NOTE While the topic hasn't taken a turn for the worse, I still want to nip this in the bud-- This is a modern Wii/DS Sonic title based around themes of color and amusement parks. Someone is going to dislike it. You don't need to bring this up every other day as if disliking a Sonic game is a crime. Similarly, you don't need to cry that Sega is wrong for making this game and post Sonic Cycles because it doesn't fulfill one of your irrelevant bullet points pertaining to the perfect Sonic game. No one cares. Thus, keep complaining about the complainers and Sega to an absolute zero. This topic is about Sonic Colors, not about the near decade-old controversy over the state of the franchise and fanbase that I'm too old to give a shit about anymore. If you want to complain about any of that crap, make a topic or blog entry for it. Any such posts that fall within this realm here will be deleted/edited on sight. SOURCES

I also hope this game will have some sort of difficulty option. Most of the Sonic games nowadays are too easy. |

oh, well for me i constantly suggested that sega should of remade 123&k all as one game in 3d with cutscenes, but making a sequal is just as good. seeing that sonic colors will have stages like the daytime levels from unleashed is a refresher for me |

Stop goddamned spamming my topic with your irrelevant, sarcastic, caps-locked-sprinkled shit. One more crappy post that has nothing to do with this game and it's a warning. |

I'd prefer not to chew you out here in topic for all kinds of the jerk you're being, so I'll do it via PM, k? K. On topic, I believe the only way online multiplayer has a chance of working is if they implement a way to prevent crippling lag that makes Wifi on other games unplayable at times (I'm lookin' at you, Smash Bros.) I can't imagine how bad lag is going to be in a game series that supposedly prides itself on its speed of gameplay. |

Seriously? I think that's rather tame of me. xP Anyways, I hear online multiplayer isn't bad for all games; All-Stars Racing comes to mind, which I've heard has considerably good framerates even at the cost of numbers. Brawl's is probably so bad because everyone and their grandma still plays it, and maybe because of the way Nintendo set it up. I don't think a Sonic game would fair too badly over online, even something as fast as Unleashed. But this is all assuming that we will have such a thing and not the usual leaderboards. I'm still banking on only local multiplayer with mini-games as the actual competition. |

...That is all...

Multiplayer for DS will be just like the rush series' multiplayer mode, corny, unless both people have the game.If it's supposedto be download, there should be equal control for both players. In an unrelated note, would it make sense that since the theme of the game is circus/carnival based, there might include a creepy, haunted house of mirrors level? That would be SO cool. xD Especially since they made this about those alien creatures, the, um.... yeah, what were they called again? xP Edited by Retsu Seiba, Jun 1 2010, 02:55 AM.

I'm not entirely sure anymore that each level will be that devoted to amusement park themes. We have three zones supposedly confirmed already: Sweet Mountain, Tropical Reservoir, and Eggmanland. Sans the latter, assuming it will retain its look and themes from Unleashed, do these level names really remind you of amusement park tropes, or do they just sound like your usual, quirky Sonic level instead? I imagine that there might be park gimmicks throughout the levels like ferris wheels and roller coasters, or maybe even the bosses will actually take place in Eggman's established parks, but I think it's possible that we won't be seeing any levels that really play it completely straight with the amusement park theme. Also, Sonic Channel confirms suspicions that Colors will be available to play at E3. Keep your fingers crossed for it and Sonic 4's performances. |
