![]() OVERVIEW Name: Sonic Colors (alt. Sonic Colours) Developers: Sonic Team, Dimps (co-dev. DS version) Publisher: SEGA Genre: Action-Adventure/Platforming Platforms: Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS Input: Wii: Wii Remote & Nunchuk, Classic controller, GameCube controller; DS: Stylus Players: 1-2 Rating: ESRB: E (Cartoon violence); PEGI: 3 Release Dates: NA: November 16, 2010; EU: November 12, 2010 Official Websites: US-UK-JPN ![]() THE GAME Gameplay: Sonic Colors is the latest action title in the franchise that sees Sonic racing around Dr. Eggman's planetary themeparks to rescue an alien species called Wisps which is being used to power the parks. In return for rescue, these Wisps will allow Sonic to be privy to their special abilities, or "Color Powers." The Wii version of Colors accurately replicates the more traditional Daytime stages of Sonic Unleashed on the Xbox 360, whilst the DS version will be replicating the Sonic Rush series. Traversing the levels is given a layer of depth in the form of the Wisps who act as a general power-up system, allowing Sonic to move, attack, and explore the scenery in various ways. Completing the main campaign is still as independent of this system as possible, and only by aiming for full completion will significant use of the Wisps be necessary. Sonic Team purports a solid focus on the series' strengths. This includes the cultivation of a single style of gameplay and whimsical locations that take cues from park attractions like confectionery centers and tropical resorts; The storyline will also follow a similarly light-hearted and goofy tone, and music will replace the series' standard guitar riffs for more upbeat, jazzy sounds. Locations:
Characters: Wisps: Wisps are found inside of regenerative capsules throughout each level. Collecting a particular color of Wisp allows Sonic to take advantage of that alien's "Color Power," unique attacks and movements that are limited by a gauge. There are ten Wisps across both versions:
Storyline: "The diabolical Dr. Eggman has hatched another plan for world domination! He has built an amazing interstellar amusement park, floating in space around Sonic's home planet, bursting with incredible rides and attractions. However, all is not as it seems as Dr. Eggman has abducted an alien race called Wisps and is harnessing their colorful energy to fuel a sinister plot. However, before Dr. Eggman completes his evil plans, Sonic discovers his mysterious theme park in space. When he arrives, Sonic finds he is also able to use these alien powers and is ready to help! Sonic will need all his speed and skill as he faces this test, but, empowered by the alien energy, it's a test he'll pass with flying colors!" --Sega Mini Site Detailed Synopsis Credits:

DS: 7.9/10

![]() ADMINISTRATIVE NOTE While the topic hasn't taken a turn for the worse, I still want to nip this in the bud-- This is a modern Wii/DS Sonic title based around themes of color and amusement parks. Someone is going to dislike it. You don't need to bring this up every other day as if disliking a Sonic game is a crime. Similarly, you don't need to cry that Sega is wrong for making this game and post Sonic Cycles because it doesn't fulfill one of your irrelevant bullet points pertaining to the perfect Sonic game. No one cares. Thus, keep complaining about the complainers and Sega to an absolute zero. This topic is about Sonic Colors, not about the near decade-old controversy over the state of the franchise and fanbase that I'm too old to give a shit about anymore. If you want to complain about any of that crap, make a topic or blog entry for it. Any such posts that fall within this realm here will be deleted/edited on sight. SOURCES

I thought the same thing. But I figured it's okay since I like rainbows. It sounds very child-like though, like Sega is reaching a younger audience. Sonic Team: never stops changing its ways. Silly team there. Edited by Sonic Adventure 2, May 26 2010, 08:36 AM.

not a big fan of the name myself, but, it's not that big of a deal, as long as the game is good, it could be called "sonic and the magical aliens" for all I care.

Even if the title was more mature, the aesthetics would not change such a sentiment. Not that it really matters; Sonic's never been super hardcore or anything anyways. |

This is interesting, to say the least. My first thought was that this is too child-like for my liking, until I saw that this will be exclusive to Nintendo consoles. A decent premise nonetheless - puts me in mind of Flickies' Island. Edit: If this does turn out to be Sonic Team's 20th Anniversary game, this Sonic fan will be bitterly disappointed. Edit Edit: There's a significant margin between not being "super hardcore" and cheesy to the point of nauseous. Edited by infamousDee, May 26 2010, 09:01 AM.

xP We were going to get another Sonic game sooner or later. Anyways, I believe ONM will have a six-page preview of the game in exactly one month. Just something to watch out for. |

To bad! Guess I'll have to wait a few more years for another 360 title. Well looks nice from the first screen shots, but that's about it, what I have to add. |

Lava Reef Act 2
|
Very true. The name really doesn't matter. The game matters more. Even if it is kid-friendly, I don't mind. I just want it to be a fun game. Unleashed and Galaxy both were not that fun in my eyes. Hopefully this one has something for everyone. Oh, and sorry for bashing earlier. I wasn't in the best state of mind. I think this game will be alright. The graphics look great and the idea is quite innovative. Sonic 3D games (and several 2D ones) are never usually repetitive (one thing I really like about them). I shouldn't doubt Sonic Team until they show more about the game. I just hope there's ton of adventure and a decent story (the latter seems to be happening already)... TIME TO REALLY EXPLODE!

Yay Sonic cycle! =P But seriously, a new Sonic platformer is always good news to me. And since this uses the Unleashed style, that's all the better. I just hope the Wii version doesn't control like Sonic and the Secret Rings/Black Knight. |

The wiimote use is my major fear about this game. I'm not good using it without touching buttons, and have never liked the idea of the wiimote from the start. Edited by Sonic Adventure 2, May 26 2010, 10:16 AM.

Well, this took me by complete surprise. o_O Anyway, the name is meh, but as long as the game is good, it really doesn't matter. Out at the end of the year, huh? Well, let's see what comes of it - it's still a long way off yet. xP |
