In my long battle against my brother to demonstrate why rap music from the mid-2000s and beyond has degraded to embarrassing levels, I find myself still getting an excessive exposure to the genre. And nowadays, songs that I have argued against whatever artistic integrity they may actually have are now in my playlist, and as I sing and gesture along, deep down I slowly come to realize that I'm one lyric closer to going to Hell. One such song is this demonic abortion, the O Let's Do It remix (Unedited). Come on. The uninspired and simplistic melody, and the even simpler and generically patriarchal and misogynistic lyrics? The fact that people like P. Diddy, Rick Ross, and Gucci Mane even endorsed some kid who admitted to the press that he can't even rap well? There is nothing redeeming about this song or what it stands for. But goddammit, I like it! It's catchy to me! My only consolation in this matter is that this type of acceptance of bad music hasn't happened with Ke$ha. Lord knows when I start liking Tik Tok is the day I square dance naked on the White House lawn with Tomokazu Seki heading the banjo. Anyways, I guess the question is, do you like any songs which you know beyond a shadow of a doubt are pretty bad anyways? Songs you know that if you admitted to your circle of friends of liking, they'd string you up in the town square? Yes, SB. Shower the forum with the scummy depths of your musical tastes. (Yes, I'm very bored. And try to explain your choices a little bit. List topics can get awful and dull real quick.) |

I have a few guilty pleasure songs myself. >> << "Forever" by Chris Brown is one. I dunno why, I just find it catchy despite my disliking of Chris Brown (Hitting women is not cool bro). It's mostly the music that's awesome. The lyrics are fairly lame, as it is with most songs of the genre "Forever" happens to be. Lyrical genius is a talent lost to the ages, it seems. XD Another is the Werehog Boss Battle theme from Sonic Unleashed. It just sounds so cheesy and kiddy, but it's so catchy to listen to. I guess it's the kid in me making a resurgence (As if he ever left). And it IS Sonic music, which I love almost all of. XD |

Which boss theme? The Werehog actually has two-- One for main bosses like Phoenix and Moray, and another for just the really large enemies mid-level. Both of those are actually pretty good, but if you're referring to the regular battle theme that pops up everytime you happen upon enemies, then yeah, you have a point. That goddamn song comes on too frequently and ruins my listening of the far superior BGMs. xP |

The boss theme when you fight the Dark Gaia Phoenix. The mid-level theme for the dudes with the hammers is not a guilty pleasure for me, as I don't like it. =P |

Oh i have a handful of guilty pleasure songs but one that comes to mind is "Turn My Swag On" by Soulja Boy. Ok first off the guy is a douche bag and he cant rap for crap. I hate how in the video he's just flaunting his wealth or whatever but i cant help but bob my head to that damn song. Another is "With You" by Chris Brown. He's just not my style but the song is catchy to me lol

I have a few... One main probably being Handlebars by Flobots, several Yu-Gi-Oh! anime songs like Teardrop and Freedom, a few other raps and the occasional soppy song that I refuse to mention.

Lovebug by Jonas Brothers.  I despise their songs, but when I saw a video for this one (don't know if it's the official one, though), it somehow warmed my heart and I like it now. XP There are other guilty pleasures, but none seem to come to my mind right now... |

I have a whole playlist dedicated to nothing but remixes of Caramelldansen and Levan Polka. >_> I can't stand the translated lyrics, but when all I can hear is foreign jibber-jabber that my brain can't register as being 'words', it just melds in with the music as just another set of sounds. Same stands true for any music with foreign lyrics, but these two especially seeing as they are in actuality sickeningly sweet. Damn J-pop crap... (even though, technically, neither of them belong to that genre... originally, at least) |

"Turn My Swag On" is one of my guilty pleasures too. "With You" used to be, but I've found myself lacking any will to ever listen to that ever song again, assault charges regardless. Anyways, since it just popped up on my playlist, here's another one of mine called, This Must Be Love by Innosense, a low-key girl band that Brittany was part of before she went off to become a multi-million dollar disappointment. Anyways, this song is the theme to that crappy German film Millionaire Dogs that used to play on CN, if any of you actually remember. It's not bad, per se. Just sweet, innocent, hokey girly pop; Way too saccharine and safe for public listening. But I just love that harmonizing they're pulling off. ;; EDIT: Yves, this thread is for all of us to share the un-shareable. Oh that reminds me of another guilty pleasure i have lol "Love Story" by Taylor Swift. I dislike her but i seem to sing along everytime i hear it lol it is a very cheezy song when ya think about it

I myself have turned away from rap in the recent years, coming to a realization I guess. I don't mind listening to the songs I enjoyed when I was younger, but I digress. When I was younger, I bought the NOW CDs because they usually spread across genres and had bits of things I like, now they're a money waster. I had still been receiving these CDs as gifts until I asked for the gifter to stop. This was around the time when I started listening to more rock music than rap. I would play the CD on my computer, and I usually got lost in one of the songs while I worked that I would forget to select the next song. Well... eventually it got to the point I was singing the song midway through it. So, the songs in question are "I'm in Love with a Stripper" and "Ms. New Booty." Terrible songs yes, but after being ingrained in my head from not turning the song in time or the station being stuck on that song, I have them on my play list.

I've got a some playlist of music that I can't get sick of, but most fall into one category that I enjoy: Instrumental. Whether they be soothing or rocking. I just can't explain how much I love listening to nothing but the instruments. But that don't mean I don't enjoy ones with lyrics, since most songs have them. Just a few from my play list:

You've blown my mind, TakeCare. In all the hours I played/watched the Subspace Emissary, I didn't recognize that that song was a remix of what is probably one of my favorites song from the DKC series period. Now that I mentally compare the two, that remix is rather inferior to the original, but whenever I heard it, I felt strangely happy. xD |
