I highly doubt such an action will get you very far, unless everyone else does likewise.

And this is why I refuse to buy a PS3. I Don't need to worry about a PSP. I always back up my files just in case.
Yeah, I really doubt this is why you refuse to buy a PS3 as this is a recent change to the terms of service. Microsoft can do the same thing with the 360. SCE America is based in a country where pretty much everyone needs to cover their collective asses to prevent lawsuits and basically Sony is just protecting themselves legally, it does not mean they are going to release updates that are going to delete your save game data, etc... Just another misinterpreted thing by some site that wants HITS (a.k.a. people on their website).
Hmmm and check this out, this was already in the old TOS! So basically people are crying foul for no reason, sensationalist journalism at its worst.

You can see all of the updates here:

I still can't use this.

You completely missed the point. The problem is simply the fact that Sony has sent out an apparently legitimate e-mail telling its customers to go screw themselves if they disagree with the rules in place. Despite the fact that they have right to do it, despite the fact that other companies have similar TOS, and despite the fact that the rule isn't brand new, that doesn't eliminate the fact that essentially saying, "We can do whatever we want to your console. And if you don't like it, you can delete your account and go the hell somewhere else" is simply a-holish behavior from any professional corporation.

And thus be out the insane price that you paid for such a highly hyped console as well as the games you paid for that had online capabilities :/

Seriously, this is no way for any company to act. :/ I`m so backing up my files just in case. Luckily I don`t have that much stuff on PS3 and PSP but still. Doesn`t matter if you have just a few things or a lot. Their basic attitude is there towards customers. Better Business Bureau? Are we at that level yet?

Thus why their attitude of "accept it or gtfo" is all the more bull.

They are not saying anything like that at all. There is no attitude there, there is no implying anything, it is just an email giving users a TOS. If they did not send it out, no one would be complaining, yet the rules would be exactly the same...

You even admit other companies have similar TOS's yet you some how think sending a reminder email is saying, "screw you" is a bit ridiculous. People are dumb and the only reason they aren't upset about everything is no one even reads company TOS, this is as bad as fans complaining about stuff in Sonic 4.

Once again, you are missing the point. This is only about professionalism, not whether the companies' TOS is the same. To my knowledge, Microsoft, Nintendo, Steam, and other competitors don't send childish e-mails directly to their consumers in which the final paragraph could literally be summed up as, "We can do whatever we want to your console for any reason; GTFO our service if you don't like it."

And you're sugar-coating my position. I don't think a company acting like a 12-year old with its consumers is a bit ridiculous; I think it's excessively stupid.

Exactly as Blitz says. It's the fact that they are basically flaunting that there's nothing you can do about it than the fact that they are doing it.

I received an e-mail linking me to the updated TOS... But honestly, Bliz. I've read software TOS's before, and this is nothing more than more of the same. The software TOS's also say something to the tune of: "If you don't agree, break the damn disk." From PS1-era and PC games. According to all that BS legalese, we don't own the games or other software; we paid for the "privilege" of using it. It's just now that piece of the whole shebang has been brought into focus.

Yeah, I know, why do they say that when they couldn't enforce it. Well, they can now.

EDIT: Forgot the terminology when I posted, sorry, it's the End-User License Agreement, (EULA.)

Indeed, there is nothing more repulsive than these monsters that defy nature and are known by the name of witcher, as they are the offspring of foul sorcery and witchcraft. They are unscrupulous scoundrels without conscience and virtue, veritable creatures from hell capable only of taking lives. They have no place amongst decent and honest folk.

Again, I'm not denying that other companies have very similar policies; No one is. I'm simply saying that this e-mail's blunt wording is tactless. Corporations use legal terms not only to protect themselves, but to establish that cold, faceless neutrality that makes their presence remotely tolerable. Being anymore blunt about the fact that you're screwing over your customers on a daily basis makes you look like a jerkwad, and it's an easy way to distance your buyers. This is a minor reason why people were ready and willing to believe it was a phishing scam (and I will back up and advocate that this is still a possibility since my search wasn't concrete); Corporations just don't word e-mails like that.

The major reason is because they're admittedly renegging on a function that they put on their own consoles and punishing their consumers for using it just because, which is also stupid. Really stupid, in fact.

But overall, my personal disdain for the e-mail is mostly not due to any rules Sony may have made, but the simple lack of tact they used in expressing them. Honestly, I believe that if this was in the same legal speak as Microsoft's monster Live TOS, it wouldn't be getting this much attention.
