What is the difference between a duck?

This is a social test and I want to see how we, as a site, fare. Below I will list 3 profiles, you will vote and preferably comment as to why you chose who you did and then we'll reveal the identities of the choices. 1) - Candidate one is a heavy alchoholic, loves scotch and martinis every night and can drunken himself often. He is viewed by many as a radical and has two mistresses. Is good at rallying the people. 2) - Candidate 2 is a chain smoker, gets by each hour with smoking tobbaco and such. Many view him as irresponsible and he was even kicked out of lower offices twice in his career. He is a great speaker. 3) - Candidate 3 is a vegetarian. He is viewed as having good economic knowledge and a good grasp on foreign policy. His knock is that this will be his first venture into politics. |

Uhh... If we're allowed to comment on our choices? I chose Candidate 3, simply for the reason that potential means a lot more to me than experience. I can't see what good rallying the people would do if you're not in a sober enough state of mind to use it to your advantage, for Candidate 1. Candidate 2 may be a great speaker, but to me, his confidence in speaking would probably come from smoking, and if he is viewed as radical, putting him in charge of any situation could be a grave mistake. |

Well first of all, this little test was a way to experiment and see how media spin affects how people would vote, and this site voted the way I've seen this test go every single time, except the smoker usually gets a little support. The 3 of you who gave 30% of the total vote to Candidate 1, have voted for Franklin Delano Roosevelt the great reverser of the Great Depression in the United States who effectively repealed prohibition and socialized the federal banking system. Arguably the greatest US leader ever. Getting absolutely no love was Candidate 2, Winston Churchill. He may have been viewed as irresponsible, but he was focused and very much responsible when it came to defending Britain and keeping the public strong. Thank you Mr. Prime Minister. Those of you who gave 70% of the vote to Candidate 3 have effectively elected the one and only Adolf Hitler as your countries leader. A secret radical, he will initially turn economic discord into great success.. but will march on towards a great World War of border expansion and the systematic extermination of an entire subpopulation of your nation. This test represents the fact that people will vote based on what they hear initially from anywhere, especially in the media. Sure someone may look like the ideal citizen and others may be lambasted for their personal tendencies.. but this spin can be very wrong. It's why I wish the media would stay out of politics and let people formulate their own opinions based on what they see and hear firsthand.. not become a sheep in a flock of followers. EDIT: Big Winston actually got 1 vote before I was able to finish this post. The final percentage tally is Roosevelt- 27% Churchill- 9% Hitler- 64% Edited by Bowie, Apr 16 2010, 04:14 PM.

I trusted my gut and gave some love to the smoker. C: I knew the best one would, in reality, be the worst. @Spin - Yeah, you'd never think that the worldwide face of evil, as far as history is concerned, could be a media golden boy. His favorite drink was Orange Juice and his favorite foreign policy was BLITZKREIG! @Kiara - Yeah, Big Church and FDR are definately preferable options outside of social issues that today's media would exacerbate. Church and FDR would be at the White House about now, smoking giant cigars and having Delano making some sub-par bartender drinks. xD Good times.. Wonder where Stalin ran off to. I don't think this actually proves anything... Not all of type #3 are going to be like Hitler and not all of types 1 & 2 will be good like the candidates. Furthermore, this test only lets us choose on limited data so what else are people going to decide on? In real life people can go further and see things differently, not everyone has their mind made up on first impressions. |

I think that's part of the test: show how many details the media hides about the candidates and how they limit it to things that can easily fail to describe the person in general. |
