This time, Blaire was ready.

The scent of burning flames reached the Siberian Husky’s nostrils, drawing her attention to Taylor’s left hand. The canine could see red-orange flames surrounding the fist, burning with a fine brilliance.

Blaire took notice of that hand heading towards her, about to hit her with a scorching hot punch if she didn’t do something soon. Like lightning, the dog brought her saber in front of her face, the blade taking the force of Taylor’s punch.

Thank goodness this thing isn’t all that easy to burn.” the Mobian thought. She could see that her Sapphire Blade had received some minor scorch marks, but other than that, her main weapon was free from any blemishes.

And now…” she mused, an idea forming in her mind.

The canine tested the elasticity of the woven terrazzo; after all, she had bounced up after those few times she’d fallen. Maybe she could use it to get some nice height. Unfortunately for the Husky, it wasn’t quite buoyant enough for her to get any good air.

Ah darn it!” Blaire mentally complained, snapping her fingers in annoyance.

And I can’t use a backhanded vault or anything. Well, so much for my plan.” Blaire had figured she would find a way to leap high into the air, then come down with a slash down Taylor’s back. Too bad she wouldn’t be able to get high enough.

Well, I can still bring my sword down along his back!

The soles of Blaire’s puce boots pounded against corroded ropes and decaying wires. She attempted to head behind Taylor, tail whipping around. The canine had hoped that the human wouldn’t turn and try and counter with a flaming punch again. For the Oakland Resistance Division did not think she could handle many of those attacks.

Besides, it wasn’t like her defense was all that hot to begin with-pun not intended.

But if she pulled this off, she’d be that much closer to winning this match, and the tournament itself. Mere seconds later, she found herself behind Taylor. Blaire raised her sword high in the air, prepared to strike.

You’d better not turn around and hit me with a fire punch.

Like lightning, the violet Siberian Husky brought her sword down. If she was lucky, her foe would not do anything before she put a gash in the human’s back.

Just a little while longer.

As soon as Taylor noticed that Blaire had gone around him, he started turning to his left--
--just to get a nasty gash down his left arm about a quarter turn in. He wasn't about to continue playing with fire this time. The pain from the gash down his arm was too much to muster his concentration against for magics. Still turning, albeit blinded by pain, he went what felt like a further quarter-turn to his right, brought his right hand with the gun to what he thought was chest height for the husky and fired. Despite hoping he'd hit with the shot, the drowned-out rational part of his mind was certain that the most he had accomplished was deafening them both. As he struggled to open his eyes against the pain in his head and his arm, he found that he'd been driven to his knees by the shot.

Blaire had hoped the saber would put a gash down Taylor’s back. However, as that sword came down, the human had turned in an attempt to avoid it. While the blade missed his back completely, it did slice through his left arm. Blaire shrugged at this.

Not quite the way I was hoping this attack to work. But hey, at least he can’t throw any flaming punches with that arm.” the canine thought to herself, a smug grin on her lavender-furred visage.

The Siberian Husky watched with calculating eyes as Taylor continued to turn, the flat of her sword in front of her chest. If the human tried anything with his good hand, she’d use the blade to deflect the attack while she herself ducked down. The purpose of her crouching down had to do with her next action. She would then cut the ropes underneath her opponent’s feet, in an attempt to send him tumbling into the abyss, just as she had been planning to do before.

She was not prepared for what Taylor did next.

In the back of her mind, the cold weather canine expected something like this to happen. At this particular moment in time however, it surprised her greatly. She had expected to see a flaming hand coming her way. Instead, however, she saw the barrel of a gun.

Bang!

It was a miracle that Blaire even survived the shot. As she felt her ear drums burst thanks to the rather loud din the gun made as the bullet was discharged from it, the Mobian barely had time to duck to avoid receiving a gaping hole in her chest. However, she didn’t get off scot free, oh no. For as she bent over, the projectile tore through the flesh of her left ear like a missile through glass.

As she emitted a yelp of pain, Blaire clapped a paw to her ear. Blood slowly seeped from her fingers, staining her already red gloves with a much darker hue.

“Okay, that was a close one,” she muttered, feeling the hole that was now in her ear.

Well, I don’t think any of my sensory organs were damaged. And at any rate, if I win this match, I’ll come out fully healed.” The dog rolled her eyes.

I found it sad how that’s the one good thing the judges have done through this entire tournament.

The purple-furred Siberian Husky, who was at that moment down on one knee, glanced down at the woven floor below her. She raised her sword high in the air, hesitating for a brief moment before bringing it down again. If things went according to plan and Taylor did run or jump out of the way before the dog had the blades cut, then more than likely, there was a good chance of him falling.

Of course, that same chance applied to Blaire herself.

For a split second, to Taylor, everything froze in one crystallized moment. He had one off chance to outright win this, or otherwise keep going until he could no longer do so. Taylor brought up the gun and hesitated for half a second in the semisilence he'd engulfed himself in before squeezing the trigger.
BLAM. The first shot was meant for Blaire's torso, which was immediately followed by
BLAM. another shot making a beeline for her head thanks to the handgun's recoil.
Another half second to compensate for the pullback...
BLAM. This third shot, thanks to overcompensating for the recoil, impacted the arena "floor" right in front of Blaire
BLAM. Followed by a fourth shot going for her torso again.
Taylor's hearing was, for lack of a better word, shot for the rest of the match. And his shooting arm now felt like jelly from the repeated shocks of the handgun's recoil.
At least there was one less thing for him to concentrate on, for however little time the match would continue from this point.

That tip of Blaire’s saber never reached a single fiber on one of those ropes that made up the battlefield. For as the Siberian Husky brought down her sword, Taylor and fired off another shot. Caught by surprise, the canine twisted her body to the left in an attempt to avoid getting hit.

No such luck.

A bullet tore through the side of her torso, blood, fur, and cloth scattering through the air. The force of the projectile was so great that it actually sent her to the ground. That head slammed into the woven terrazzo. Had it been made of a harder substance, she would have lost this battle due to loss of consciousness.

But all hitting the floor of this floating rug of an arena did was save her from getting shot in the head by another bullet. Thank goodness for that. However, as Blaire rose into a standing position, a third shot was fired. This round cut through the ropes in front of the canine’s feet like a knife through butter.

The violet-furred husky stepped back in surprise as that third shot came so close to her. But that was the least of her worries. For at that moment a fourth and, hopefully, final shot came towards Blaire’s torso, just as the first shot did.

Oh no, not this time.

Like lighting, the Oakland Resistance Agent brought her sword up, having it act as a mini shield to block the bullet. It worked like a charm. That projectile was harmlessly deflect off the flat of the blade.

Okay, I managed to dodge that one.” Blaire thought to herself. However, when she looked down, she could she clearly the damage that had been done thanks to those other bullets. Blood seeped down, painting her fur and clothes a dark red color everywhere it went. And she herself was feeling a bit rundown.

This isn’t quite my day.

Taylor was feeling especially drained now, from all the blood loss, especially from having his left arm all but sliced open. He could hardly lift his gun anymore. But as a sudden flash of inspiration hit him, he began to think that he wouldn't have to. How many times have I shot this thing? I can't remember... I'd better have enough left. Dropping onto his hands, he shot a bullet straight along the woven mat the formed the arena floor towards Blaire, rending a long gash in it until gravity took over its trajectory. Then he angled the gun a bit to his right, lining up another shot that would split open the floor... only to find his gun was beginning to jam. Desperately he pumped the handgun's trigger to get the next shot off. He couldn't hear himself cursing at his weapon, but he could imagine the foul things he was saying to the gun.

Blaire stood on that floating carpet of a battle field, her breath coming in slow, deep bursts. A small pool of blood gathered around her feet, snaking under and around the soles of her boots. Gingerly the canine touched the ear with the hole in it, cringing slightly in response.

I’ve been burned, shot at several times, and half of my ear is missing. Ugh, what a match,

The sight of Taylor dropping to the ground caught her eyes. The dog could see the human clutching his gun. She watched as her foe aim his weapon towards her feet.

Trying to render me off balanced so he can finish me off with another bullet, is he? Well it won’t work this time.

Bang!

That projectile came towards Blaire with blinding speed, slicing a long cut into the arena floor as it traveled. Acting with the lightning fast reflexes she was known with, the Siberian Husky twisted herself around. As a result, the bullet harmlessly passed by her, falling into the abyss below when the law of gravity reared its head.

Ha. Far too easy, even as weary as I am. He should have just fired from a standing position. There’s no guarantee that he would get me, of course, but he’d certainly have an easier time.” Blaire mused, a smirk on her visage.

Her ears-or what was left of them-twitched. Though her hearing had taken a toll thanks to all those shots going off around her, she could still make out sounds and such, unlike Taylor. Thus, she managed to hear the human’s curses. Who they were directed at, she did not know exactly. However, the way he was furiously pumping the trigger of his handgun led the Siberian Husky to believe it was his weapon Taylor was swearing at.

He’s distracted. Perhaps now would be a good time to finish him off.” the canine tightened her grip on the hilt of her saber, teeth clenched.

I wish I didn’t have to do this. But those judges gave me no other choice. If I ever to have a chance at rescuing Lance and the others, I’m going to have to do this.”

She let out a sigh, before slowly making her way to Taylor. Her sword was raised slightly, the canine ready to strike the human. She had to make this quick, merciful, and as painless as possible. And as kept walking, only one thing was on her mind that moment;

I only wish there was another way.

Taylor tried beating the gun barrel with the base of his palm when he saw Blaire moving to strike. Still wouldn't unjam. But, as dire as the situation was, he would fight until his final ragged breath. With a flick of his wrist, he rotated the gun back into a usable position, despite being (hopefully temporarily) unusable, and sought to counter Blaire's blade by parrying it with his handgun. It was desperate, but all he had right now.

Bangle Charge 100%. Activating in five seconds.

Blaire didn’t see that message on the screen of her Cryokinetic Bangle. Not at first, that is. For she was still focused on Taylor. She hesitated for a brief moment, just like she had done before.

I’ve got to do this. As much as I wish there was, there’s no other choice. Forgive me, Lance.

She swung that sword, aiming to trust it right in his heart. If things went as planned, the human would die instantly. However, things were not meant to go as the Siberian Husky had hoped. For Taylor had delayed his own death. As the canine’s Sapphire Blade came towards him, he quickly countered with his handgun.

Okay then. Maybe I should try stabbing him at a different…angle?

The purple-furred dog took a quick glance at her Bangle during that brief pause. On the screen, she could see that the gauge, now green, had completed it rise. The canine also took notice of the message scrolling across the screen;

Bangle Charge 100%. Activating in one second.

’Bout time!” the cold weather Mobian thought with a smirk, as she felt the temperature right around her drop drastically to a chilly thirty-two degrees Fahrenheit. Just the temperature her surroundings needed to be in order for the husky to use her ice based powers.

But as things began to cool down, the woven terrazzo started to show some more wear and tear as hoarfrost gathered on the ropes and wires. Blaire figured that by the time the gauge on her Cryokinetic Bangle dropped back to ‘zero’, there would be several holes in the battlefield.

Better make this quick.

Concentrating the molecules in the ice particles around her, Blaire managed to create an arrow made of frozen water in the palm of her gloved paw. Perfect. One eye squinted almost shut, the violet-furred Siberian Husky set her sights on Taylor.

Here goes nothing.

With a flick of her wrist, the O.R.D Agent flung that Glacial Triangle at her foe. The ice shard spun around in a circle, like a cold, triangle-shaped Frisbee.

Come on, come on…

The hell is that? Taylor finally noticed the little bracelet on Blaire's wrist, enough so that he was distracted from attempting a shot after the parry as he pushed the gun against the husky's sword; assuming the impact of barrel against blade had dislodged whatever was stuck. Then Blaire had created that crystalline arrowhead. Pointblank. But am I too late? Sorry, Abby, but Papa might not be able to help you after all. As soon as the ice projectile left the husky's paw, Taylor squeezed the trigger of his gun, still struggling against the saber. He couldn't hear it go off, but he most certainly felt it... it was all a matter of who bled out or fell through the floor first now.

What is the difference between a duck?

Blaire

Fair Play: 10/10
- You were shot up, didn't force hits and just stuck it out in a grueling match, you and your opponent were about as fair as I can ask for.

Grammar: 10/10
- I caught wind of a couple minor errors but they are iffy missed hyphen sort of errors so I'm gunna be generous.

Adaptation to Environment: 9/10
- You described the environment well to start off and it played into the physics of your match as your elemental abilities really tore at it but also forced you to be more careful. It wasn't a huge factor enough to be a 10 but was more than solid enough for a high score.

Entertainment: 9/10
- Your descriptions and emotion were strong and I found myself genuinely interested with what was going on in Blaire's head, since she wasn't acting like the same "your antics can't phase me" self that she'd been for quite awhile, it added a nice dimension. Very well done overall, just try to limit yourself from over describing situations at times (it irks the flow a bit for me as a reader). You weren't notorious for it but there were, to me, just little instances of it.

Taylor

Fair Play: 10/10
- Like your opponent, you too were worn ragged by the end of regulation.. not even on your last legs. We can't tell how those final shots have affected the match, but we can definitely tell you played your heart out.
Grammar: 10/10
- Your only errors were the same as your opponents so I'm willing to be equally generous as they were the same missed hyphen sort of misses.
Adaptation to Environment: 8/10
- You didn't describe the arena to the same extent but it played into your tactics well. I really like the attempt at cutting through the arena with the bullets from your weapon. Throw in a little more arena/situation description and you're a lock for a 9-10 score.
Entertainment: 8/10
- There was a great deal of emotion in your posts, you didn't attack with size, instead you focused on being consistent.. and for your part, you were very efficient with what you put out. I really liked the "BLAM" post since it stood out when just scrolling through the posts the first time through, it had a lot of character. I felt Taylor's emotion and desperation as he struggled through the later portions of the match. The dent in your armor were a couple of smaller posts in the first half (time wise) of the match that didn't show the same spark of efficiency as the others and seemed to just fall short. I couldn't ever get a flow going in them as they never explained much.. or the emotion just seemed more void. I won't call them lazy as the effort was there for sure, but they hindered your overall effort.

Blaire - 38
Taylor - 36

It's a very close match by my grade. Like I stated, if it weren't for two less efficient posts by Choco, this could very well be a heated tie or a role reversal of score going into TUCs grade. Either way, this match was for half of all the marbles and you two played for it in very different styles. I can rest assured knowing we'll send a competent challenger to face Talancir in the tourney final.

【The Knight of Tigers 】

Blaire
Fair Play: 10/10
-Took a LOT of hits (dare I say ‘too many’? XD ) and your delivery of attacks were well-written to allow for hit/miss responses. It’s interesting to note that you’re one of a handful of RPers who, if they get hit by an attack, more often than not is hit directly as opposed to “Well, he/she tries to dodge and takes 50% of the intended hit.”
Grammar: 10/10
-Nothing to point out here, as usual.
Adaptation to Environment: 10/10
-You used the environment’s limits to your advantage, made note of its slow degradation and heck, some of your more acrobatic manoeuvres were impeded by the bounciness of the arena. Good work.
Entertainment: 10/10
-Your writing style is almost poetic, or literally so in some cases (“It hit her head on, that right cross did...”) and every time I read a piece of your work, I end up having to look up and learn a new word. Thought processes were worked in quite well, though in the middle of combat, you occasionally stretched the fact that Talking Is A Free Action (talking aloud to yourself while under attack seemed to distort time a little bit...). Otherwise, a fantastic match, lots of on-your-feet thinking and quick action.

Taylor
Fair Play: 10/10
-When Taylor’s gun jammed, I actually stood up out of my chair and yelled ‘NO!’ at my screen for about half a minute straight, interspersed with disbelieving laughter. Never in my short but illustrious career as an RPer have I seen someone’s gun jam, especially not at such a crucial juncture in mid-combat, and that’s no exaggeration. Epic props for that, dude.
Grammar: 10/10
-Nothing to point out here, as usual.
Adaptation to Environment: 10/10
-Your portrayal of the smouldering wires when you pulled off that illusion trick was well-played; a lovely little gambit, hoping Blaire wouldn’t notice the discrepancy. You were constantly on the move, thanks to your fire magic, making sure not to stay in one place long enough to burn through. Excellent.
Entertainment: 9/10
-I’m quite fond of your dirty fighting tactics, what with the using his coat as a distraction and the using illusions for sneak attacks; shows a lot about the character. Suspense saw some heavy use in your posts (especially that gun, my gods!), and reaching the end of a lot of your posts was like reading a cliffhanger in motion. Some nice fighting work done here, and all done through blinding pain no less (figuratively speaking, of course).

ARGH DAMNIT this match was soooo gorram hard to mark. >_> You two are too damn good, and it took me three re-reviews to break away from a 40/40 tie. Would have liked to see both of you move on, but we all know that there can only be one winner per match, and besides, we don’t want to end up with a three-way final match now do we? So... as the Church of Falcon proclaimeth, “He who punches first punches hardest,” so, let’s see whose final projectile struck the fatal mark...
Final marks from me:

BLAIRE: 40
RABIDCHOCO: 39

Adding the scores of Bowie’s, we haaaave... Drumroll please... Oh gods, my heart is tearing in half here, I really don’t want to be the harbringer of bad news...

BLAIRE: 78
RABIDCHOCO: 75

Blaire wins by three points and proceeds to the next round. Taylor, on the other hand, head to the Abyss, don’t pass Go, don’t collect $200 or your daughter. Possibly. POSSIBLY don’t quote me on that.
