Sandopolis Act 2
"Not the species. Just him," the dockworker said.
"Always with that word. I'll be the first to admit I tend to screw up-- spectacularly, I might add-- when it's my idea we're working off. But this one's not." He puffed a breath under his bangs. "Damn, get marked by the wrong crowd all of once, and everyone throws himself to a conclusion. Wasn't even my fault," he grumbled under his breath. And as he leaned on a barrel, he hit it wrong and toppled it over. "Er, yeah. I'll set that back up..."

"Eh yes, very well then," Blaire said, clearing her throat. "I'm sure he didn't mean anything. Now, can we borrow the sub?" the dog asked, on eyebrow raised.

Sandopolis Act 2
"I never understood why we have it here, exactly, it isn't like it sees use that often, always thought it was a waste of space, to be honest. But orders were orders, and it's in decent condition. If you can get use out of this tub, then go right ahead. Just keep blondy away from anything delicate," the dockworker said. "And it'll be safe enough. But seriously. The pole of inaccessibility? Why?"
Austin was about to respond when Taylor sidled into the conversation. "Details are on a strict need-to-know basis, but in general summary... Intelligence may point to something paranormal, and more importantly, potent in ruins on the seafloor in that location. If it's real, wouldn't want Robotnik forces to preempt us," he said.
"And who are you?"
"Taylor Hiss, investigator of paranormal phenomena, with the IPDF. 'Blondy' there is Austin Ryder, from the intel division of the IPDF." Taylor rattled that off with no hesitation and with such authority even Austin was surprised. "Now can we please get underway?"
"Sure, sure. It shouldn't take you too long to get out of the dock. I'll just... stay outta the way," the dockworker said.

Blaire gave a small nod, her eyes shut tight as she faced the dockworker. "Thank you for your understanding. We will try to make sure nothing major happens to the sub." the Siberian Husky then turned to face Drake, gesturing for the Bengal Tiger to come over.

"So," Drake muttered, jerking his coat collar. "Shall we?"

"What was that whole deal about?" Austin asked as they boarded the sub.
"Making us seem important and impatient enough that he'd stop asking questions," Taylor said. "Alright. Let's settle in for the long haul, even at a good clip it's going to be a few days to our target. Fire 'er up and move 'em out."

"A few days?" Drake repeated, tilting his head to the side. "Well in that case, it's a good thing these subs are fully stocked with food and fresh water."

"Yes. Well, does anyone know how to pilot these things?"

Austin nodded. "Yeah. A few days. We are, after all, heading as far from land as one can possibly go." He examined the instrumentation. "Seems simple enough, with assistance from the instruments. I've worked this kind of thing before." He flicked a few switches, and some panels lit up. "Okay, and to start the motors." He reached for the ignition switch, and a shudder ran throughout the sub.
"Gah! Austin!" Taylor said, spooked.
"Just the engines cranking up. Stop worrying, stay back, and shut up," he shot back.

Blaire and Drake too felt it as the submarine jerked slightly. Quick as a flash, the Siberian Husky grasped the seat in front of her, a tense look on her face. "Are you sure you know how to pilot this thing?" she asked.

"Dang, it's a good thing I'm a good swimmer." the dog muttered, calming down.

"I used to be able to swim really well," Drake muttered. "Til my foot got shot, that is."

"Yes..." Austin replied. "It would have been fiercer and we'd have heard it had I hit something. A lot fiercer."
Taylor opened his mouth, then realized what was going on, closed it, then said, "The entropy thing."
"Nothing major. Just handling like it's not been used in a few years," Austin said.
Another shudder ran through the sub, but a bit less rocky. "Okay. We're clear of the piers. Let's take accelerating slowly for a bit till we're clear of the harbor. Course?" Austin asked.
Taylor scrunched up in concentration for a bit. "Two sixty-three should put us in the area by the estimated time they figured. We're just a little bit behind their schedule on finding that cure."
"Cure? You know that thing is more than just a plague," Austin said, sighing.

"What entropy thing?" Blaire asked, a bit confused about what he meant. "Sorry, some Mobians are granted with kinetic powers, but we haven't heard of the likes of that," the canine told him.

"Sorry, but no," Austin said. "Not unless someone comes up with an explanation that's less than ten words."
Taylor gave him a triumphant smirk. "Everything he touches, figuratively and literally, turns to shit," he said.
"Damn it," Austin muttered under his breath. "Just tell me this Egg-person doesn't patrol the seas so far out, and we can keep sailing with the hatch open for fresh air and open sky."

"Nah, he leaves the seas alone, surprisingly," Blaire told him, softly muttering that last word. "So yes, I say we'd be good to surface."

"Well, it's not like there'd be anything that would serve his purposes out there," Taylor said, a hint of sarcasm in his voice.
"Alright. From 'periscope' depth to surface cruising in three, two, one..." Austin announced as he brought the sub to the waves' surface. Then he hit a switch, and the entry hatch clicked open again. "Alright, get some sun, meditate, whatever you need to do. We're in for the long haul now." Barring anything extreme, they would cruise that way until they were nearly upon their destination.

Blaire wasted no time climbing atop the sub and laying down on it so as to get a bit of sun. Drake on the other hand decided to stay inside-someone had to stand guard in case...something caught up to them.
