Sandopolis Act 2
|
It had happened again. Taylor had once again failed to look before he leaped, and had ended up appearing someplace unbidden. Again. Appearing in the midst of something important that he Was Not To Know. Again. And they had thrown him in a cell. Again. Not that he knew anything about his captors, but that was par for the course also. Not that he was worried about it, either. Incarceration was an acceptable alternative to... whatever it was he did anymore. When he said it to himself, Taylor questioned his own rationality. The human lay on the stone floor of his cell, humming some strange ditty, more bored than despairing. It was the third time in as many years that he'd found himself behind bars for something beyond his control. Still. There was something in this place he was looking for, if only he could persuade his captors to help him find it. They'd taken his bag, his obvious weapons, and even his jacket, leaving him in his well-worn black t-shirt and jeans, waiting for someone to come and grill him about why he'd mysteriously appeared in their war room. All well and good, he guessed. At least he might start by getting some idea of where 'here' was. He sat up as he heard footsteps approaching. |

A young fox of twenty-one approaced Taylor's cell, gently careesing the blade of a longsword. Her fur was a deep red, with white splashed on the approiate places. Her clothes gave her the appearance of someone who was very important. And in truth, she was. "Ah, how are you enjoying being a prisoner of the Klawzax Unit? That floor isn't too soft, now is it? We can make it harder if you'd like." She cleared her throat and out of her coat pocket pulled out a sheet of paper. "Anyway, there's a few rules I must tell you of. Follow them, and you may just live to see tommorrow. Rule number one: You are now a member of the Unit, who supports Robotnik's rule. Rule number two: the orders of Commander Raxton Klawzax, Lieutenant Scarlett Cyphon, and Sergeant Shrapnel Torsile must be followed. Rule three," she glanced back at the human. "...And this is the most important rule of all. You must always, ALWAYS refer to Scarlett by her title when first addressing her. Failure to follow any of these rules could result in a rather merciless death. And by the way, I'm Scarlett." |

Well, he now had an idea of where he was. Mobius, or one of its countless parallels. One where Dr. Ivo Robotnik was alive and well and was still pushing his world-domination bids... or, gods forbid, succeeded. "Let me guess, Lieutenant, on why I got shanghaied into this 'Unit.' I know too much, or so you suppose, is that it?" Blowing his bangs from over his brown eyes, he got to his feet. "Despite what your orders might say, I don't think I'm obligated to do much of anything. But yeah, then again, I'm handcuffed and in a cell, what the hell can I do to prove you wrong, huh?" Taylor's voice was dripping with sarcasm. He'd certainly awakened handcuffed, but even disarmed, he had a few... tricks up his sleeve. But first he was testing the waters, seeing how short a fuse Scarlett had on her temper, and whether it would profit in the long run to just play along, or cut and run now. He took a calculated step back towards the wall during the last bout of taunting, somehow sensing he was gonna regret it later. |

The Red Fox glared at the human, her emerald green eyes conveying a sense of ire. Slowly, she removed the glasses that she had been wearing in order to read the rules. "Look here, human. You are going to do what the rules say, or you'll have to suffer the consequnces. And let me tell you; I've slewn many a Mobian, some just for forgetting to refer to me by my title. Don't make me do the same to you." |

Taylor sighed. "I'm jaded, what can I say? I'm not a stranger to this kind of situation." He took his hand from behind his back, revealing the chain for the handcuffs had been broken apart. "But I'm also an opportunist. I'll abide by your rules, don't you worry, Lieutenant. Oh, and by the way? The past tense for 'slay' is 'slain,'" the human finished, stepping aside from a small, barely-noticeable puddle of molten metal, at the center of which was a broken chain link corresponding to his handcuffs. |

Oh, and by the way? The past tense for 'slay' is 'slain.' "Who cares!?" Scarlett shouted, pointing her longsword at the human. "Either way, you made the right descision in joining us. Welcome to the Klawzax Unit." The fox leaned over and looked Taylor straight in the eye. "Now for your first mission, have you ever heard of the Oakland Resistance Division?" |

Taylor was inclined to disagree about his agreement to work for this 'Klawzax Unit' being the right choice. But it looked like they were about to let him walk. Then Scarlett mentioned something about an 'Oakland Resistance Division'... "Possibly. But for the sake of being thorough, I think I'll need a refresher," Taylor said. Shit. I got a nasty feeling about this one. How in the hells did I land in the worst possible spot? |

Scarlett narrowed her eyes. "Are you trying to tell me, that you don't know about the O.R.D?" "Maybe so, but he'll know plenty about it soon." At the sound of that voice, the fox's ears perked up. She looked to see a young purple-coated Siberian Husky. She too, had a sword about her. The difference was, the husky's blade was a blue saber. "Blaire Fields," Scarlett said, saying that name as if it offended her. |

Talk about a well-timed distraction. Taylor couldn't see the husky, but he recalled the voice. So much for playing along. Time to break out and grab my stuff. There was a sharp sizzling sound as his cell lit up while he blasted the lock of his cell with a hastily conjured fireball. It was a slipshod, unfocused spell, so a lot of power and flame spilled out into the corridor beyond his cell. It would take a second shot, that he worried he might not get if he didn't slag the lock into unusability with the first one. However, if he got said second shot, the door would be blasted into the opposite wall, in theory. And gods have mercy on whomever was in the way of the red-hot cell door when it gave. |

"Blaire, what on Mobius are you doing here?" Scarlett asked, her hands on her hips. "I'm glad you asked," the canine began, leaning against the wall. "I was on a classified mission, when I heard some of your best men mention a prisioner of sorts. Naturally, I came to check it out." "And let me guess, you plan to-" the fox stopped in mid sentence, sniffing the air. "Say, what's burning? It smells like..." she turned around and that was when she got a glimspe of the sizzling lock. "Oh my..." |

And the door gave with the sound of a gunshot, and a deafening clang when it hit the opposite wall. Sweat dripping down his face and smoke rising from his hands, Taylor moved to grab Scarlett and hold her against the wall, about to interrogate her about where they had taken the items he had had with him. |

Scarlett moved to swing her sword at Taylor's head, hoping to decapitate him. However, she was slammed into the wall with quite a bit of force. For a while, all she could do was look on in surprise, while Blaire watched with great intent. "Hmm, how very interesting. I wonder what they did to him." |

Sandopolis Act 2
|
"All I wanted to do was locate a more-ancient-than-dirt artifact and get out of this dimension as quickly as humanly possible. With you and yours locking me in that cell, you have condemned hundreds, if not thousands more innocent lives to gruesome, unspeakable, mind-shredding deaths. Tell me where I can get my things and a gods-damned submarine, and I'll spare you. But one funny move, and that half-molten door is more fortunate than you." Taylor shook Scarlett. "TELL ME!" |

Hearing that caused Blaire's eyes to widen in shock. "No way...is he serious about all this?" Scarlett's body shook in fear as she was shaken. "A-alight! Alright!" she stuttered, raising a paw. "Your stuff is two hallways down, second door on your right. As for a submarine, I...I don't know where you would find one...." |

Taylor relaxed the pressure and backed away. "It'll have to do for now, then. The sooner I can get a sub and find what I'm after, the more likely it'll be that I can stop it from reaching here," he said. "Two corridors that way, second door on the right." He turned away slowly in the indicated direction, clenched fist trembling. "Nobody should have to lose those they know like... like..." He couldn't finish his sentence. He quickly regained his composure. "I gotta stop it." |
