Assasin's Creed 2

Developer: Ubisoft Montreal
Genre: Third-person action-adventure
Release Date: November 17, 2009
Number of Players: 1
Platforms: Xbox 360, PS3

PLOT:

Taking place in Italy, the story of this game begins as the true protagonist from the last game: Desmond Miles. He is awoken and confronted by Lucy, an ally, with blood on her shirt.

Lucy tells him to get into the Animus, with which he complies with slight hesitation. During this brief mental journey, he witnesses the birth of a second ancestor: Ezio Auditore da Firenze. He is then pulled. Without explaining, Lucy leads him to the parking lot.

Once there, after taking out some guards, she has Desmond hide in the trunk of her car as she drives to who knows where. Several hours later, she pops the trunk lid and helps Desmond out.

The two are now inside what seems to be a large storage facility. Lucy leads Desmond to the upper floor, where she introduces him to two new allies. They explain to him that he is needed to assist them in their mission, their fight against Abstergo.

After what the evil corporation did to him, Desmond quickly agrees and enters the Animus 2.0, thus beginning a new journey.

CONCEPT:

By present, Desmond, and by past, Ezio, you take the role of a young man traveling through time to the life of his ancestors, the assasins. While Ezio, you have many abilities that Desmond's former ancestor, Altair, also had.

As an assasin, your mission is simple: kill for the greater good. Strike from within the shadows, and then retreat before the corpse hits the ground. Defend the weak, and punish the currupt.

You are a protector. . . you are a guardian . . .

You . . . are an assasin.

GRAPHICS

Originally, before buying the game, I was sceptical. To me, the graphics seemed more 'plastic', and less realistic. But as I got into it, my picky nature was left behind and I realised how magnificent it appeared.

From the tallest building to a single blade of grass, the game's detail knows no bounds. The addition of a day and night system only made the game more impressive to look at. You'd be amazed how different a city can look at night.

SOUND:
SOUND EFFECTS: As realistic as the graphics, the sound effects range from the hiss of a sword being drawn from its scabberd to the shot of a mysterious weapons concealed in Ezio's sleeve. Eagles screech, people converse, and footsteps patter as you sneak around.

MUSIC: Unlike the original Assasin's Creed, I was quite impressed with the music for this game. While it was still somewhat scarce, it was much more noticable and better, fitting the mood of the scene or event perfectly.

VOICEACTING: The voiceacting will please any sound-buff. Each character's voice fits their personality well, and Italian is often peppered throughout the dialouge, making it a more believable verbal sequence.

GAMEPLAY:
CONTROLS: A bit confusing, but all-in-all rather fluid. You'll be struggling with the controls for high-profile actions and switching weapons than you will for preforming actions, and even this is only until you've played for awhile.

CHARACTER INTERACTIONS: Citizens can targets alike will react to just about anything you do. If you knock down someone, the people will berate you for your rudeness. If you kill someone and leave the body, they will gather around it and gossip. You can even steal from people, and they from you. Keep your purse in your sight at all times, as people can move quite fast when being chased.

NOTORIETY: In this game, reputation is everything. Your notoriety is how well known you are in the city you are currently in. Killing people and preforming socially unacceptable acts will increase your notoriety. You can reduce this score by 'confronting' corrupted officials, bribing heralds, and tearing down 'Wanted' posters.

CAMERA: The camera is one of the few gripes I have with this game, but it is a minor one. Due to the detailed surrounding, it is somewhat common for the camera to be positioned behind a tree or such things.

FINAL SCORING:

GRAPHICS: 9/10
SOUND: 7.5/10
GAMEPLAY: 10/10
REPLAYABILITY: 10/10
ENTERTAINMENT: 9/10
OVERALL: 10/10

This game is, without a doubt, one of my top five favorite games of all times. Open-ended and engaging, this game can pull you into its grasp for hours on end. From the citizen's reactions to your assasinations to the deep story, this game is likely one that will go down as one of the greatest games of 2009.

I would like to note, however, that this game can be slightly offensive to those that are strongly religious. While it isn't really anti-anything, it does have enough content to make one uncomfortable.

I agree with you. The game is just superb. They sure did a great job fixing all the problems that the old Assasin's Creed had.

Here's hoping I get this game soon! :D
I am making a Sonic series which will be released to Sonic Blast members ONLY till an amount of time. Sonic Blast members will get teasers of the episodes and will get to watch them about a week before the public. HOWEVER, I need music. I already know a site but I need to refer people to let me download the music. It has tons of music which is EXACTLY what I need. So just click this: http://downloads.khinsider.com/?u=151320
Does anyone know where to get fighting sound effects? Possibly from Sonic Battle? I have Sonic Adventure DX voice clips but I am dying to get my hands on those juicy Sonic Battle sound effects. PM me any good sites to get them from. Thanks a lot fellow Sonic fans-KunoshiTheCat

I want to play this game, but I can't. I actually own it already (got it as a birthday present). The reason I can't play it is that I haven't finished the first one yet, and I don't want anything spoiled. So, I intentionally skipped over the plot section of your review.

Would I have much spoiled if I were to skip up to AC2? In AC1, I'm up to where you kill that merchant dude who kills everyone with the poisoned wine.

I didn't even bother playing Assassin's Creed 1 until AFTER I played the second game. It's not too much of an inconvenience, but to understand the big picture behind the plot (especially towards the end of the second game), you'll want to finish the first one first.

I luuuuuuurve Assassin's Creed 2. It kicks ass. You can do so much more in the second game than the first. If you can think of it, you can do it. Most of the time.

Plus, you have practically an entire arsenal at your disposal. Smoke bombs FTW. ;)
