Flying Battery Act 2

Let's talk about how much you pay to play your videogames. How much do you spend on what games, and why? What's your shopping habits? I tend to go by these guidelines when buying games: 1) I only buy a game brand new and for full price when I absolutely must have the game on release day, and I really want the game's company to make money on my sale. If you buy a game used, your money does not make it back to the company. Examples: - Every Resident Evil game EVER - Every Need For Speed game EVER (except NFS Nitro) - Every Midnight Club game EVER - No More Heroes 2 - Forza Motorsport 3 2) If I kind of want the game but I'm not really excited about it, I'll usually wait until it dips below the $20 range...$30 if I have a little more interest in it. Most games don't take long to reach $30 or $20. But after that, it's not worth waiting anymore. It'll only go down about $10 more and you'll be waiting a couple more years for that. Examples: - Dead Space ($17) - Far Cry 2 ($25) - Wheelman (only got it cause it had a Pontiac G8 GT on the cover...my car XD) - Most Tokyo Xtreme Racer games ($4-$26) - Most of the Castlevania games ($10-$30) 3) If it's a game I didn't know of originally that was recommended to me by a friend or some other source...or if the blurb on the back of the box interests me, I will pay no more than $15 for it. Examples: - Shadow of Destiny (first game I've bought in a while where only the blurb on the back of the box got me to try it...that hasn't happened in a while. I wasn't disappointed though ) ($10)- Blue Stinger ($10) - Abadox ($5) - Hitman: Contracts ($10) 4) If it's a rare game that I kind of want to try but I know I probably won't see again if I don't buy it, I'll bend rules #1-3 some. - Final Fantasy VII ($34) - Secret of Mana ($30) - Philosoma ($18) 5) Despite my love of older games, I refuse to use emulators or Virtual Console. I only want to play the game as it was originally meant to be played...on the actual console and on an actual TV. The only exception is if I really want to try the game but it was never released in my country. Edited by Nail Strafer, Jan 31 2010, 04:42 PM.

Hmm... Well I'm close relative around the same deal. When I must have a title. I tend to pre-order the game almost at first sight within a possible web-store. A few I have in mind. Sacred 2. But damn in the end I was miserable disappointed of the nuisance bug. Red Dead Redemption. Dragon Age: Origins Darksiders: Wrath of War Forza 3 Most of them have been positive and well used. Then there are those I'm a bit unsure about. I often tries to check up with friends around it's whereabouts and from there consider a full prise or wait until it drops. Hmm... Well most of them I haven't bought to say except. Blood Bawl a very disappointing title I must add. At least when I can't score a single goal in the whole match. Other titles I usually look at when their prises turn below $20. But I often only buy one title each month. That is, if there's one to reach out for. Ha ha! Often there is. |

I rarely buy games to begin with. But when I do, it's usually $60 or $50. I spend around $20 a month on Gamefly, so I usually just rent everything that looks good or interesting. I've played about 90 or so games on my 360 and I only own 6 of them. I own 6 PS3 games as well. I only buy a game when I'm absolutely convinced I'll like it (trusted developer, looks good, universally good review scores). When I'm convinced enough I go out and buy it at full price. I hate waiting, If I'm iffy I have the luxury of renting. I just got into PC gaming. I've bought 4 games so far, 1 game was $30 (Crysis), and the rest were at or below $10. Like Nail said about supporting the game company, I take that into consideration too. I've only taken a risk once and a bought a game I was iffy about at full price. That game was Dead Space and it was absolutely worth it imo. As for old games, I use emulators. The only old consoles I have left are my N64 and SNES. If I want a game that bad I just DL it. I can't be bothered to order an old game somewhere and then pull out my dusty old console. However, If I had any local game stores that sold old games for a reasonable price, I may take that into consideration. I generally buy games at launch or at full price when it's: - A Mario game as long as it's a platformer or RPG - A Sonic game as long as it's a platformer - Basically anything made by Valve - A PS3 exclusives that looks promising - Any other trusted series (Halo, Gearz, Stalker, Ratchet & Clank, etc.) -It makes me go holy &^@$ (Borderlands, and soon to be: Alan Wake & Brink). |

Flying Battery Act 2

You know, this is something I think I've forgotten. Unlike a lot of people here, I have a proper job so I have a lot of leisure money to play around with. So I can pretty much get anything in a game store if I really wanted it. But it's not money preventing me from buying up the store...it's typically my lack of free time. Sad, isn't it? When I was younger I had all the time I wanted to play video games, but no money to buy them. Now I could spend $1,000 a month on games and still break even with my paycheck, but I just don't have time to play all those games. For a while after I got my job I spent freely on games...often buying up $60 or more of games a week. The problem is this got me a ton of games I just didn't have time to try. It made me realize that I still had to keep an eye out for quality, even if I could afford to blow cash. There's only time for me to try a handful of games, so I really want them to be good. Also, these days, I'm trying to catch up on the huge backlog of games I bought but still haven't finished, while trying to cut back on game purchases. So, if you're ever fortunate to run into a windfall like I do, don't lose sight of what you did when you really had to make each game purchase count. You've still got to do it when you've got money, but for a different reason. Edited by Nail Strafer, Jan 31 2010, 07:35 PM.

What is the difference between a duck?
![]()

I typically rent all single player games unless I feel like I really should get them (Sonic games/ Bayonetta/ Dante's Inferno/ Borderlands/Mass Effect 2 are recent examples) this is because whether I like it or not.. I usually am done playing a single player game once I finish it the first time through, most Multiplayer games garner a little more attention from me because of re-playability, so if they come with a good story of my own, that is a bonus. I usually spend the typical 59.99 on the new games but I've bought quite a few used games at discounted prices since I am an avid game recycler, when I'm done with a game(s) I'll use it to help get something else and hopefully my sold game will go to someone that appreciates it more. The only games I never sell are those with Halo tied to the name since they never seem to get old. |

I only pay $60 for a new game if it's a must have. Most recently was Uncharted 2. Right now, I'm trying to catch up on older games so I spend around $20-40 on a game normally. |

"I didn't use the whole thing ...."
|
Since nearly every one has posted in dollars, I'm going to break the trend and post in pounds. (being English and all) Since I only own a Wii and DS I hardly have to pay more than £30 -£40 for my games, plus I usally part exchange whenever I get a new game so its normally less than that. My most recent purchase was Legends of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon, witch I got for a dead cheap £10. |

It varies on the game. Mostly I only buy DS games now, so probably around $30 to less. |

With my very most anticipated games, I will usually preorder examples: Modern Warfare 2 Forza 3 Halo 3: ODST I will usually wait until it's about $30 if it's a game I'm kinda interested. I also get games used if they aren't all that new to shelves. |

I tend to buy games on a whim. If it looks good or is by a company I know or even if it is a JRPG I usually will either save money from my paycheck or sell a few games to get it. I am a firm believer in buying used because some games are too old to buy new (example: Legend of Spyro Dawn of the Dragon which I am still looking for). |

Just what I had in mind. Everything dead on earth, except us.
|
Ahh us and our pounds. If it's a game i'm proper anticipating then I will buy it on the release day. The price varies but I will spend no more than £40 on a single game. I'm not cheap, it's just that why spend more on one game? The other day I got Prince of Persia and Fallout 3 for £20 each (new copies). It'd be cool to see more deals like that. But I can't buy more than two at once because I have some little OCD-preconception-thing where I feel that if I let myself get too immersed into something, I won't do my school work. =p (I think that's reasonable, though.) Nail does have it the easiest, and that is probably why his collection I'm guessing is larger than mine. I am stuck with whatever money I can save, round up, or what games I can still get my parents to buy. I don't buy many new games either, except for my sonic stuff. However, my mom had the deal that she would buy any new Sonic game for me really, so those don't usually go into my game budget. I prefer cheaper games and such, usually 20 or 30 for a game, unless I MUST have it. I have been buying alot more older games, so buying cheaper does make it easier to get some of them, but some old games are going to be a real pain in the butt to get. |

I'm a gamer and always will be a gamer. If you don't believe me. I have 430 Video Games and 19 Consoles. I doubt you could beat that unless you are a gamer as well! =P So, let's see if you can outdo "The Jet Gamer"
