Love them. They prolong the life of games, fix bugs or things that just annoy you, and well make the game funner. Three games come to mind for me when I think of mods: Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl, Stalker Clear Sky, and L4D1. The two Stalkers were riddled with bugs and other annoyances despite being damn amazing games. The modding community has practically fixed every problem that those games have had (accuracy problems, hit detection, graphical errors, overall performance, difficulty, etc). As for the fun factor, that's mainly where L4D comes in play. Some of the community maps are fecking awesome. Custom skins and weapons are fun to toy around with too. Of course mods make Stalker funner too, it's just the game already has so much packed into it. So yeah, mods are great. Despite modding violating the CoC on most consoles, I would still encourage it then. Let the people have their funs, just don't bring it into competitive multiplayer. All of Valve's games ported to the consoles aren't anywhere close as fun compared to the PC. I think there's a missed opportunity in mods on consoles. I always hear developers and publishers bitch about Gamestop and having there games being traded in. If the game doesn't last someone long enough, the modding community usually picks things up and prolongs the life of the game. Maybe people wouldn't trade in their games as much if theres more to do? |

Yeah, the ones who get bored of there games quickly usually are those who don't know about mods.So they end up trading there games in and buying another game to start the whole process over again.A place I like to go is planet elder scrolls. |

The only console game that I know of that supports mods is Unreal Tournament 3 of PS3, the 360 version does not support it. Am I missing any others? I remember seeing a UT3 mod that made it a 2.5D sidescroller and it looked pretty cool. |

I think I totally miss read what you said*dyslexia,my one weakness....*I thought you said modding was totally possible on those two systems XD.Isn't modding against the TOS on certain systems and can terminate your E.U.L.A. when it comes to those two?Unless the people who made the two games say other wise?It would be awesome to mod sonic unleashed though, dunno what I would add though.I would think it would make the game horribly laggy due to the system specs being a bit lower than a gaming PC,unless you know how to mod your consols*Which I'm sure would cost time and tons of money* BTW,I think the only time mods would suck would be if:A.You have no space left on your computer. Or B.You have an out of date graphics card and just use the given card the computer has, which usually isn't all that great*this computer would be horrible to run mods on if I hadn't bought my GE force 9800,so that also increases the modding experience as well.My two cents!

Is yours a 9800GT? If so we have the same card :D. Also modding is possible on consoles, but takes 10x more time and effort. Modding does violate the ToS and you will be banned if your caught, however M$ has been lazy about it unless your modding MW2. My friend makes awesome modded guns in Borderlands all the time on the 360 version. There's quite a collection of modded Halo maps and variants on Bungie.net. It's the console manufacturer that has the say on the ban (Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo). I remember reading an article somewhere about Valve trying to find away to incorporate mods in L4D2, obviously it didn't work out. The Wii has a lot of awesome Home brew channels though. More of a system modification then a game modification. It's also highly illegal as your getting games for free :/. And as Metallix stated, the PS3 version of UT3 supported mods. It was awesome, you could have some of the characters from Gears on the PS3! |

I know a lot of other systems have modding devices like the R4*I think*,I am un-able to connect to the internet to obtain the home brew channel sadly*My router hates me,just when I think I get it working....*mumbles*Ah,Microsoft!There extremely greedy right? So I could see that comming from them*ironic since I own one of there products* Those mods sound pretty awesome.I usually dont buy shooters,I just wondered if Crysis had any mods.*yep my computer can play it without lag all the way on extreme graphics,so mods wont be a problem*I would consider buying it to play with mods. |

I love mods, and I usually play PC games so I don't have to worry about TOS violations. c: Fallout 3 has some great mods. They released a very versatile modding tool for it (the GECK), so there are all kinds of great mods out there. I bet that Oblivion has some great mods as well, but I haven't checked those out yet. Mods for games in the Sims series are usually great. They made it harder to mod in the Sims 3 than they did in the Sims 1 or 2, but there's a huge community of modders out there that always manage to find a way around EA's tomfoolery. |

Yeah, that's EA's doing...they make it harder to figure out how to go about modding,I could barely find anything on mod the sims. There were a ton of useful mods in two compared to the newer one.I think I might have the one for fallout 3 that you mentioned. That's the good thing about PC games, you don't have to worry about doing anything illegal. There's one really awesome mod for oblivion its called: Deadly Reflex,it should be up on planetelderschrolls.com .There's another good one I just found today, that adds new quests, characters, and scenerey. Auriels resort.Thing is I'm not sure which version of oblivion I have, that's another downside when you want a mod,you might not have the right requirements, and you'd be missing out on something cool. I love when mods outsmart the companies that made the game. Edited by marzthephoenix, Jan 26 2010, 03:55 AM.

Mods make games funner. Weather they be maps, or weapons, you name it. The best game to mod is Oblivion. There's pretty much endless possibilities for that game when it comes to mods. Fun as hell. |
